    I’m very happy with my expert epic. For just a little more than half the price it weighed 11.28kg and that includes x-track pedals, bike computer and two water bottle cages with empty water bottles, the rest was stock and I prefer the aluminium crank set over the carbon ones because of experience from my previous bike. ( over time with enough pedal strikes the pedal ripped the threaded socket off the crank arm) nice watching you build your new steed and have loads of good feelings on it.

    • @donr868
      @donr868 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was looking at getting an epic expert, it says on the website the brain damper on the fork is bottom adjust? Is this correct or typo. Usually compression adjustement is top and rebound at bottom. Also do you find the brain fork necessary. I was considering just getting the epic comp and buying the standard sid sl ultimate fork with remote lockout. Or I could by just the s-works epic frame set. Too many options!

    • @giuseppepennisi8699
      @giuseppepennisi8699 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@donr868 yes it’s bottom adjustable. Guess what. That dial is missing off the fork as it’s come off on some technical terrain. The bike needs its yearly shocks service now. Had the bike for 10 months now. So that’s the first issue. The second issue is that the top tube of all epics is too high and when you going to wipe out and the handle bar crosses over the top tube, the shifter and break lever will scratch the top tube badly. Specialized have a rubber masking tape patch protection pad to stop the scratches for future wipe outs. It looks ridiculous and I’m not happy with that design flaw. Now the brain suspension. It’s effing amaaaaazing. My previous bike had fox shocks with remote lockouts. The remotes always wore out. The specialized brain suspension really works well. I’m very impressed with it. Apparently it has been redesigned and upgraded from previous models, the service intervals have almost doubled from previous models. Apart from those first two snags, this is the best handling xc bike I’ve ever owned. The carbon Wheelset is strong and gives you the ability to be extremely precise in your cornering or choosing lines over rocky technical sections. They are very stable and when you roll downhill they’re fast. Hope that answers your questions.

    • @donr868
      @donr868 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@giuseppepennisi8699 Thanks so much for your review, really hard to get real life rider reports on this bike. Are you more recreation rider or XC racer? I’ve read about the levers scratching the top tube. My current XC bike I layer up with PPF and loosen off the lever clamps a little but I agree it is an oversight by Specialized.
      I did read that this version of the brain is better and good to hear it works well. So I take it you really value having the front brain? I was considering Comp level but it doesn’t have front brain so sounds like it is worth the upgrade to at least expert? Do you think it is much loss not having the brain damper adjust on the top/crown of the fork like S-work and Pro models? I thought it might be useful to reach down and adjust it on the fly?
      Also what’s your feeling/impression of descending on steep terrain? Shops have been telling me to get the Evo for descending as it is a little slacker with 17mm longer wheel base (1164), 10mm longer Front Centre and of course 120mm fork. My concern is coming from a hard tail with 1116mm wheel base the Evo will be less agile and the rear bounce will annoy me. I think the Epic is already slacker and longer than prior Epic models anyway and much more stable than my hard tail.

    • @giuseppepennisi8699
      @giuseppepennisi8699 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@donr868 I enjoy racing xc or short stage xc racing. The only issue I have with bottom adjustment of the fork is that if you hit a rock it might come off like mine did. It should have been recessed further into the Fork bottoms. If you keen on racing then get the expert as it’s light enough and the wheels make a huge difference compared to the comp. In my opinion there is nothing a 100mm travel can’t do than the 120mm travel. If you going to be ramping off large drops then maybe go for a 140mm trail bike. Obviously that’s not going to be the best option for a xc race. I enjoy xc. The brain is really good. It does have a slightly different feel at first when you ride it for the first time compared with conventional manual lockout remotes or levers. Some don’t like the sound or feeling you get when the system engages the terrain, but I like it and it just works. I remember having to replace my remotes almost every two years and canl s twice a year. I couldn’t be bothered with that hassle anymore. The brain does have more than enough settings to play around with to set the suspension up for the way you like it. Hope that helps. Enjoy mtb.

    • @donr868
      @donr868 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@giuseppepennisi8699 Thanks, that's great that you are doing XC racing. I must admit I haven't raced for over 15 years on my old 26" hard tail but since buying a 29er 18 months ago I've been enjoying XC riding again and might go in some Masters events. No large drops for me as I enjoy uphill technical climbs as much as down. The new 29er bikes are so much easier to ride and I can’t wait to get a dual suspension bike.
      I'm a bit concerned about the bottom adjust as on my current SID fork the rebound adjuster is already a little scratched on one edge. On the normal SID SL you can see the red rebound dial protruding. Does the brain fade dial protrude much further on the expert?
      p.vitalmtb.com/photos/products/29505/photos/58465/s1600_FS_SID_ULT_C1_c_120mm_GlossBle_Front.jpg?1584425712
      The other problem here is that it is really hard to get hold of the epic bikes or framesAll I can find at the moment is an Epic Comp which does not have a brain front fork. My other option is to buy the Epic Comp and install remote SID SL Ultimate fork and swap my XX1 and carbon wheels from my current bike. Do you think I’d be missing out much without the brain fork?

    Thank you for this great video! you have motivated me to make my own dream Build
    I Have a couple of questions to your Setup and would appreciate you helping me out.
    - the Handlebars look like they are Black in the Video, but in the description it says blue. Are they blue? and how does the color fit to the other blues?
    - What is the exact description of your Headset?
    Your Setup is very close to my own dream build. Only things I would Change: 30 mm rim width, Magura MT Trail SL Chrome Brake, not sure about the stem, maybe also from Beast. Also not sure about the grips as well, but havn't found any better suited ones.
    really a great bike and a great video!

    • @ShreddingBliss
      @ShreddingBliss  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks a lot! The headset is specific to Specialized - comes with the frameset. Yes, the bar is blue but visible really only in daylight so looks black on video inside. The blues really come together nicely. And yes the stem is Industry9 and that works well too. Good luck with your build!

  • @donr868
    @donr868 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Very nice build. Do you think it is possible to turn the Epic Evo model into a light weight XC Epic model by installing 100mm SID SL Ultimate fork? I think maybe the angles and wheel base would change closer to XC dimensions with shorter fork. Then of course with 2 piston calipers and carbon wheels and parts it would be lighter than normal S-works epic.

    • @ShreddingBliss
      @ShreddingBliss  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m sure it could be done - the geo wouldn’t change too much. But if everything is the same, you probably wouldnt notice much difference if just the fork changes. Even with 120mm up front, this is a seriously fast bike

    10.11kg or 23.25 pounds with no pedals. We're talking about a 24 pound bike once you have a bottle cage or 2 on it. That AXS post adds a pound over something fixed. The tires might be a little porky too. The wheels are spec'd at 1255g for the set so you can't beat that. The stem and bars might be heavy. 4-piston brakes add weight.

    • @ShreddingBliss
      @ShreddingBliss  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      So actually with pedals it’s still under 10,5kg. That’s actually 23 pounds. No bottle cage used 😅 My buddy uses a hip pack + bladder. The tyres could be lighter, yes, but this thing was built to descend as well so the extra traction is needed. This is specced to be a downcountry bike. Oh and check out Beast Components. • @RocketMagnetUK
      @RocketMagnetUK 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Generally you only really need it on the threads to prevent seizing but i'd add it to the receipt body threads not the axel for simplicity.
      I do grease the axel body but I'd never use a thick grease like in the video.. a thin coat of light spray on grease is best for this IME something like the WD40 light spray grease is good enough.
      As with any Carbon bike it's best to avoid Lithium based greases if possible. I've got a couple of non Li based greases I use of explicitly for anywhere I have a Carbon Interface (Headsets etc). If it's white opaque then a it's a good chance it's Li based but not definite. Mostly non Li based are coloured (Blue/Green/Purple etc) but clear and not opaque all the way through to no colour clear.. all are gel like in appearance.. e.g. White Lightning Crystal (is non Li based and C friendly) though I've got a few others I use for very specific jobs the Crystal is just my general stuff. So nice, thanks for sharing! I'm on the hunt for an evo frame too (sz L). If anyone watching has one, send me a DM! Will pay more than fair price.

    s-works epic 2021 without Brain system? Hm... Not good...

      The Epic has it. This is the Epic Evo (longer travel, more downcountry) and they removed it for this year’s Evo model.

    "dreambuild" ? I have better speced my self so any dream it`s not.

      Sounds like your specs are awesome then! What are you speccing? You can see each component listed in the description. They’ve all been hand-picked with two things in mind: weight and colour coordination. They certainly tick my box of a dream build!

    Gay bike. Gay tire choice. Overlubricated axles. Obviously gay bragging about super expensive flash gay racing xc formula that will not see a single race in it's life, None of the high-end features explained (not that there are many, but there are a few). Disliked.
    P.s.: racing wise this frame is not that bad after all, but not the best out there either, and it does not outcompete couple half cheaper frames in any way other than couple grams.
