I just did this today and this is the best video for replacing the thermostat/water pump. The most straight forward. I watched the video and typed and printed what he was doing step-by-step. There were some things that the video didn't show or he didn't explain but you just have to fill in the blanks. You don't have to go as fast as him but the way he did it is the most efficient.

Finally someone who vacuum tests it before putting it all the way together. I hate the way the damn seal is on them so I always put a few dabs of rtv to hold it in when I pull em out the box so it's solid enough to hold when I'm ready to put it in. I typically avoid using the crank to get the belt on and just slip it on before I mate it to the block. Good vid though!

I managed to do the valve cover reseal yesterday, so it was the first time doing this on my 1.8 2016 gti tsi polo DAJ , i can say that it was eventful to say the least 😅 i replaced all the oil seals cam side apart from the top timing chain cover main seal .
Renewed hpfp oil seal & vacuum pump gasket , all new hardware too ,
Successful job with no oil or fuel leaks .
More to that job than meets the eye .
Now ive got everything i need to do my waterpump unit & also need to put a new heater support pump on at the same time 😂
But there is one thing thats bugging me is it easy to flush the cooling system out while the heater support pump & the waterpump unit is off the car + flush out the heater matrix aswel as the radiator ?
