Fantastic, what a wonderful role model that we all have in in Mr. Jim O'Hara 2/3 p-38. This story should be in all schools as well as Aviation schools!
Got to see it at Oshkosh this year. Wonderful plane! My dad flew them during WW II, North Africa & Mediterranean, shot down & POW in Romania. I know he would have loved to see this plane. He rarely talked about his war experiences (not unusual for those vets) but he did harbor a love for the P38.
This is awesome. Glad I found the video. I only found out about Jim from a comment on a vintage lathe website as I just acquired one. The comment mentioned how someone received his old lathe from the family, and I decided to look him up out of curiosity, Jim being a aeronautical engineer after all. Very cool, wish I could've met him. RIP Jim.
This is the most amazing story. Time and poor health took away my chance to fly years and years ago, but this is the stuff of dreams. Is there going to be a movie?
The first time someone listens closely to "Fred Bear" by Ted Nugent and realizes that it's actually more of a eulogy than an homage, they get a little choked up. I bet flying that plane is like a physical eulogy to one of the great men of experimental aviation. What a treasure!
And it's WAAAY cooler in person. Y'all should come check us out at Oshkosh this year! Not sure about that William guy, though... suspicious facial hair.
Very nice William. I’m very impressed with your thoughtfulness and vulnerability. I guess it’s no surprise that Jim picked the right guy for the job.

That is an awesome story, told with humility! Way to go Uncle Jim!

So cool. I'd like to think that Clarence "Kelly" Johnson would have been impressed by Mr. O'Hara's work.

I saw this at Airventure this year! I love the silver! ❤
That is an awesome 2/3 scale replica airplane just like the B-17 Bailey Bomber!
Very cool. So, instead of .50 cals they’re .32?
What a guy!
