    I have an 80lb dog that pulls with all his strength. I have been using a pinch collar to try to train him. It helps me handle him but it no way am I winning or training him beneficially. I bought the Gentle Lead (for large dogs) then watched this video to fit it, put it on, and use it. It only took about five minutes to fit it and put it on (with treats). I was expecting us to have multiple sessions of working together before he would actually warm up to it, but he was willing right away! I decided we'd walk to the mailbox and back for a quick practice session...WOW. My rambunctious dog behaved like a docile kitten. He walked beside me, relaxed and attentive to my movements!!! He was rewarded with lots of love and treats! Finally, we will have more relaxed walks together. Thank you!

      It worked great for my 60lb 10 month lab, if you need an alternative a neighb or had me try a Petsafe easy walk harness and she absolutely loves it. If the gentle leader is not fitted properly your dog will try sliding on it's face in the grass ....hope that helps

    My dog kept choking herself bc she would pull so hard but I just walked her with the gentle leader and it worked so well!!!! She kept trying to paw it off but after about 10 minutes she stopped and instead started enjoying the walk. my arm was able to be relaxed and she got to walk without pulling or choking. Seriously if your dog pulls/chokes themselves while walking, this is the solution for you.

Luckily we have a huge backyard but I know going for walks is good for him so hopefully we can figure this out together.

      These can cause severe neck injuries due to the head being whipped around if your dog lunges, or pulls to any capacity. They can also cause eye irritation and rub the fur off your dog's muzzle. Don't use these, they are an accident waiting to happen and have been proven to be just as effective as an anti pull harness without the potential risks

    Gave it a try. Our husky hates it and was able to get out of it three times. I know maybe we didn't have it tight enough, but that's another of fur on her. I didn't want to cause her any unnecessary discomfort.

    • @petsafebrand
      @petsafebrand  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      We're sorry to hear you've had this issue with your husky wearing this head collar!
      It does sound as if it was likely too loose- though no harness or collar can ever be "escape proof", as a determined dog can struggle out of even well fitting items, it should not be easy to pull out of. When fit as intended, you should be able to fit one finger underneath the strap around your dog's neck.
      We do recommend introducing this head collar slowly, particularly for dogs who are unsure- beginning by providing high value treats when your dog willingly sticks her muzzle through the nose loop, moving to her being able to wear the head collar for a few minutes in the house while observed without trying to paw at it, etc.
      If she is still unsure after trying these gradual training steps, please get in touch with our Customer Care team directly!

    These work really well, but getting the proper fit on our Collie has been challenging. If It's positioned so that he can open his mouth, then the nose loop ends up sliding up to his eyes. If I make the nose loop smaller, then it's too tight for him to breathe. I guess we have some more experimenting to do.

    Whys my small leader got a foot of cord coming from the clip at the back of the head?
    Is it a mismatch of parts or something? Small on a larger terrier, nose piece has an inch or so cord left over, back of the head a good foot!

    • @petsafebrand
      @petsafebrand  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you for asking, Paul! As each size of head collar does fit a range of weights, if your dog is near the lower end of the weight range there may be excess strap. We do apologize for any inconvenience this causes. If there is a significant amount of excess strap, you can cut the strap, and burn the end with a lighter or similar flame to prevent fraying.

      The halter collar (the section around the neck) has to fit snugly so they can't back out of it. You can also connect it to a backup flat collar in case they do slip out of the head halter.

      Thank you for sharing your concerns, Anthony! We can absolutely understand having a difficult time with a powerful lab who wants to always be involved. It's very likely that the Gentle Leader will be helpful with this. For best success, we do recommend using a 4-6 ft. leash, and following the training steps- redirecting any attempts to paw at the head collar, stopping when he tries to put pressure into the leash, rewarding him for turning back toward you, and moving forward when the leash is loose. If you have any questions after you're trying it with him, please reach out to us! Our number is 1-800-732-2677, and our hours are Monday through Friday 8 A.M.- 8 P.M. This seems beautiful in theory but I spent half a day trying to get it to work on my doodle with no success. The problem was in the neck strap, which simply wouldn't stay in place. There's no claw mechanicm in the snap and the slightest pressure pulls the strap loose. Even trying to put the one finger under it to make sure it' wa snug, sent it flying. Very frustrating.

    • @petsafebrand
      @petsafebrand  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We're sorry to hear you had difficulty fitting this head collar on your doodle! Please know this is extremely unusual; it does sound as if the neck strap is not being fully snapped into place.
      It is critical to note that the Gentle Leader® buckles have a slight curve to them. For this reason, it is imperative to ensure the buckles are inserted correctly when snapped, gently aligning both pieces to account for the slight curve. Once firmly snapped into place, the buckle will not open unless pressure is placed on the sides of the buckle.
      If you continue to have difficulty, this could indicate a possible issue with your buckle; should this be the case, please get in touch with our Customer Care team directly!

    • @petsafebrand
      @petsafebrand  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello there, thank you for asking this question. The Gentle Leader Head Collar will have a built in collar strap that goes around the dog's neck. This head collar should not be attached to your dog's regular collar.

    • @texaspatty4697
      @texaspatty4697 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@petsafebrand Can you explain why? Some of us are concerned that our dogs might wiggle of of the GL and run into the street.

    • @petsafebrand
      @petsafebrand  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Certainly! The Gentle Leader® should not be clipped to a separate collar, as this would alter the point of pressure on the head collar, and therefore negate how it works.
      As mentioned above, please understand that the Gentle Leader has a built in strap that goes around your dog's neck. This means that even if your dog paws the nose loop down before you can stop them, the Gentle Leader will still be connected around their neck.

    • @petsafebrand
      @petsafebrand  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We are sorry to hear this is happening while your dog is wearing her Gentle Leader Head Collar! When the nose loop is pushing up towards a dog's eye, this indicates the nose loop is too loose. The nose loop should be adjusted so that it is loose enough to reach the very end of the fleshy part of your dog's nose. If you are able to successfully remove the nose loop by pulling it over the tip of your dog's nose, then the nose loop is too loose. Once the nose loop is adjusted to the correct fit, it will stop riding up into your dog's eye but also allow plenty of room for your dog to pant/drink/etc. You may also need to double check the fit of the neck strap as it should be located directly below your dog's ears. If it is sliding down the neck, it is too loose.

      I totally agree with you!!! But in the video it even says to have your dog wearing the gentle leader like a the time even during feeding time!! Witch I totally disagree with that, your dog should only wear this gentle leader collar when being trained, on a walk, and when seeing the vet. After done training, and the walk is over, and when the vet's all finished, this special collar should be removed immediately! And your regular collar should be placed back on your dog while he/she is no longer being trained or walked, and is ready for feeding and play time, and can enjoy the relaxing free time with you, without the "training tool" being used aka wearing the gentle leader collar. Whenever you are training your dog use the gentle leader collar, but when you are done training for the day, I think it would be best to remove the gentle leader collar and place your dog's regular collar back on your dog for the remainder of the day.

Honestly the only reason she's going with me and not my younger pup is because she became depressed since she had to retire very suddenly and since school doesn't have grocery carts we are in the clear. How can I keep the leash loose if my dog is constantly pulling on it? She never walks close enough to me to allow for slack on the leash, she constantly is pulling ahead the entire walk 😩

    • @petsafebrand
      @petsafebrand  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      We can certainly provide information on this!
      We would recommend using a 4 foot leash while training your dog with this head collar; this will help keep them close. When your dog pulls forward, stop moving. The head collar will naturally turn them back toward you; you can then encourage this behavior, rewarding them first for turning in this direction. Once they are close enough to your side that the leash is loose, try again to take a step forward. In the very beginning when you are starting to teach your dog, this process may seem very slow, but by following these steps and rewarding your dog for moments of loose leash you can gradually teach them that this is the desired behavior.

    My dog easily paws it off. Help!

    • @petsafebrand
      @petsafebrand  ปีที่แล้ว

      We're sorry to hear you've had this issue with your dog, Janet!
      It is important to mention that even when fit properly, this head collar can always be pawed off the muzzle by very determined/repeated efforts. As this head collar is only intended for use while actively walking, we do recommend immediately stopping/redirecting any attempt to paw at the nose loop from the very first moment it begins. This in combination with gradually introducing the head collar to your dog with lots of positive reinforcement should help stop excessive pawing.
      With that being said, if your dog is pulling off the nose loop very easily/without dedicated and repeated efforts, it's likely the head collar is a bit too loose. So that we can discuss this situation with you and determine best fit, please contact our Customer Care team!

    I'm a dog trainer and I don't believe that the gentle leader collar should be on your dog (24/7/365) and have your dog be wearing it all of the time! And your dog's regular collar should be placed back on your dog while he/she is no longer being trained or walked, and is ready for feeding and play time, and can enjoy the relaxing free time with you, without the "training tool" being used aka wearing the gentle leader collar. Whenever you are training your dog use the gentle leader collar, but when you are done training for the day, I think it would be best to remove the gentle leader collar and place your dog's regular collar back on your dog for the remainder of the day.

      Thank you for sharing your feedback! It is worth noting that while we do make mention that a dog can wear the head collar for things such as eating, drink, panting, etc., this does not mean we are in any way indicating the collar should be worn constantly. This information is provided more as an observation of how loose the nose loop should be since a dog should still be able to perform these actions while wearing the head collar. Additionally, while constant wear is never recommended, there is an acclimation training period when first introducing a dog to the head collar and where the collar can be worn for extended periods of time while under close supervision. Once this acclimation period is complete, the collar then only needs to be put on whenever the dog is getting ready to go out for a walk. We hope that clears up any confusion on this matter!

      We're sorry to hear your dog has not yet adjusted to her new head collar!
      It's possible that continuing to offer high value treats to your dog when introducing the head collar may help adjust her to it, until she can gradually be encouraged to place her face within the loop.
      If this does not help, it's possible a different solution may be a better fit for her needs. Should this be the case, please reach out to PetSafe® Customer Care so that we can discuss options with you. Our number is 1-800-732-2677, and our hours are Monday through Friday 8 A.M.- 8 P.M. 13 minute video for a leash. Listen, I don't need a promo. I need to know why the Gentle Leader isn't fitting correctly. It's a tricky leash to put on correctly, and if you do it wrong, the leash leads from the top of the snout, which is frustrating for the dog and the human.
