I have long believed that Mary has shown us her ability as Mother to intercede for us in requesting Jesus to help out. He has shown that He will respond to her intercession as a good son honoring his mother. Honor thy Father and mother. I believe that to be the very upfront message of Cana.

I have wondered if when Jesus was “lost” if perhaps Mary and Joseph were thinking “It has begun…we are not ready…” and praying “Oh God, not yet”. And perhaps the Father answered their prayer with “Ok, I will wait until you are ready”. 18 years later, wedding at Cana. Maybe that would explain why we never hear about this child with the amazing answers during those 18 years.

Thank you for the word ‘adoptionism’. I once heard a priest say in a sermon “…and when Our Lord came to realize who he was…” I knew that had to wrong but I didn’t know why exactly. I have a question about this... Because I have been thinking and believing that Jesus didn't always understand fully who he was, that his human nature needed to develop that understanding, and that his understanding of it was solidified by hearing God speak over him at his baptism... It's different than Adoptionism. Adoptionism is the idea that Jesus wasn't divine until his baptism. But I'm saying he was divine from the beginning, but that his human nature needed to learn things about who he was. By the way I'm a devout catholic

@@JohnnyOskam That's an interesting question, and an answer is way beyond my level of theological expertise. You did miss out on the fact that our Lord Jesus calls Mary "women" at the beginning of his gospel and at the end when He is on the cross, and given that St John makes so many references to the book of Genesis it cannot be overlooked, for example JOHN 1-1 In the beginning was the word; also in the passion while Jesus is on the cross they give him a drink of vinegar on a piece of hyssop which is just a tiny plant, but it immediately connects you to the old testament when hyssop was used to put the blood of the lamb on the doors and protect the first born Israelites. So we need to connect Mary and Jesus calling her women back to old testament too. Now we see Mary is the New Eve who leads Jesus to an act of giving and serving others rather then the old Eve who wanted to be like God. When Jesus makes John her mother, she becomes the mother of all of us. This is all early church Fathers' teachings but it makes perfect sense. Thank Fr for your own enlightening input.

Can we do one on the significance of the Angel of God's greeting to Mary? "Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee" as far as I remember "hail" is used to greet or pay reverence to a King/Queen ("Hail Cesar, etc...). Is there another greeting anywhere in the Bible in which an Angel shows that type of reverence, acknowledging the gracefulness of the person and then say "The Lord is with thee"?

I agree. I think the majority of those "white" Christian/Catholic images come from the Renaissance in Europe, when art was blossoming but the artists were painting from their own light skin image. But just by looking at the people who actually live in the regions of the bible, we know that reality is way different. When I picture the holy family, the apostles, the Jews, the Romans, the Greeks, the Egyptians, the Babylonians, and yes even the Ethiopians (sometimes referred as Cush), its actually a cornucopia of colors, skin tones, hair styles, ethnicities, and languages. That's why I enjoy watching The Chosen, they really do try to accurately portray the people in Christ's time, which includes lots of dark skin tones. If you haven't already checked out the show, it's a great one to watch 👍🏽

From what Fr explained in this video and also what other priests have mentioned to me, yes, your thinking is a form of heresy, because he is both human and divine. He’s both. So he can’t be divine if he doesn’t know the full picture. Heresy is often painted in a very drab way, so don’t take it like I’m condemning you. I’m not. I am a Protestant who struggles with some Catholic teachings found in Mariology. If anyone cares to share some wisdom or insight I will gladly listen, since I am seeking truth.
So let me explain what and how I understand it so far and then hopefully someone can clear things up for me.
I understand that Catholics don't "worship" Mary and that they "venerate" her.
Mary is called "the virgin" because she gave birth without ever having been with a man, and she is called "blessed" because in scripture she says that all generations will call her blessed.
Mary was blessed because God specifically chose her to give birth to our Lord, so she couldn't have been just any woman; she must have been a very special, godly woman. This is demonstrated in scripture by her obedience to God's will.
However, The divine aspect of the virgin conception and birth is all about God and His plan and not to deify a woman, regardless of how godly that woman was. Mary did not exist since the beginning of time like God does, hence I struggle to call her divine.
I am comfortable to call her the "earthly" (not worldly) mother of Jesus who is saved because of her faith in God, but I cannot call her the "divine" mother of Jesus because she is not God and I feel like that is treading very closely on worship.
    Please help me understand better.

    • @ReinhartCoetsee
      @ReinhartCoetsee 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@michaelrhodes1981 Okay, I understand that… but if they only pray to Mary because “He will not deny her” then it feels like we are trying to manipulate God to get our will instead of following Jesus’ example to pray “Your will be done”.
If God’s judgement is perfect to begin with, why would we even need another person to try and persuade/manipulate Him into making worse judgements?
God is all-knowing, so he didn’t even have to become human through Jesus to know what the human experience is like.
Why not trust that God understands us better than we understand ourselves, and then rejoice when God does show us mercy even though we never even deserved it in the first place?

She is given many titles but no one calls her divine. The more holier we are the more conform to God's will we are. So as Mary asks something of God it is granted because her will is conformed to His will. Miraculous activity throughout the ages specially surrounds the saints because of that, their will becomes like that of God so when they ask something it is granted. Not because God was manipulated into doing something lesser than His will intended, but simply its His will to begin with. The person ascended to wish what God wanted rather than God descending to fulfil the saint's wishes.

    • @ntmn8444
      @ntmn8444 2 ปีที่แล้ว

I think what you’re not getting is because you’re still thinking that Catholics are deifying Mary. Nope. This is not what is happening. Mary is just a woman, but Catholics believe that she is blessed because she gave birth to Jesus. I won’t repeat what others have said, but don’t get that confused with deification. No. She is not, nor will she ever be considered a goddess in Catholicism. She’s not a deity. If you want to understand what Catholicism is, and what we believe, read the Apostle’s Creed and the Nicaean Creed. Also, I think I should note that it is not an obligation to seek her intercession. You can be Catholic, as I was for many years, and not pray for anyones intercession. And that’s perfectly okay. It’s not a requirement. God doesn’t conform to Mary or anyone, as he transcends all. There is only one God, and you can pray to him, without needing any intercession at all.

      @ReinhartCoetsee 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@ntmn8444 That’s not what I’m thinking at all, I understand that they don’t deify her.

_John 2:10_ indicates Jesus gave wine to people who are drunk. Check the Koine Greek word used in the ancient manuscript, it’s a word for drinking a lot and being drunk. I loved this. I think he is incorrect. But this was brains at work. The key which he misses is “woman” as Jesus responds seemingly curtly. Go to John 20:13 two angels address the weeping Mary Magdalene with… “woman” gynai. Go to John 20:15, Mary turns around and Jesus who she thinks is the gardener says to her “ Woman, why are you weeping…”. When Jesus sees her suddenly energetic and demanding to know where his body is, He addresses her with her name, verse 16 Jesus said to her, “Mary.” So when a female was in a WEAKENED STATE, angels and Jesus called her gynai…woman dearest….really. Apparently gynai meant that in the context of suffering….dearest. Then when said female returns to life and makes demands….Jesus switches to “Mary”. Mary at Cana was suffering from worry as she told Jesus there was a wine shortage. She worried due to Deut.13:1-5…that if he did this first public miracle, he would be arrested and suffer his passion. “Hour” in John usually means the hour of the Passion. So Mary shows deep worry in her face….as she mentions the wine shortage. Jesus addresses her exact worry about Him being arrested so quick…” What is this to me and to you, woman dearest, my hour (to suffer) has not yet come.” HE WAS CONSOLING HER AS HE WAS SAYING YES. 98% of translations including the present Catholic one….destroy this moment by using paraphrase rather than literal translating. Yes the demon used this phrase…what to me and to you…..to Christ; but so also did Eliseus use it right before miraculously producing tons of water for three armies in 2Kings3:13.

Don't see what this long and winding, rambling hyper-rational list of descriptions has to do with the meaning of the incident of the Wedding at Cana. But it seems that when people mention Thomas Aquinas, that's where the conversation is going. TA seems like somebody who lived in his head, making up arbitrary classifications that have nothing to do with reality or even common sense. That's philosophy. Remembering boring philosophy discussions in classes, for example, about when Rene DesCartes said "I think , therefore I am." Seems made up, and not relevant to reality.
The meaning of the incident of the Wedding at Cana is that Mary's role as the ultimate intercessor of the whole Bible is revealed. Before Mary, it seems that the only intercessors mentioned were Moses and Abraham, Moses when he offered his own life to appease God when God wanted to throw in the towel at Sinai and kill the Hebrew people. And Abraham also risked himself when he kept questioning God on the morality of destroying Sodom and Gomorrah, in Abraham's attempt to act as intercessor and to save his nephew Lott, who lived in Sodom. So, before Mary, being an intercessor was risky business. It could mean that the price was the forfeiture of your own life for someone else's. (Probably many Protestants who declare themselves intercessors would shy away from that title if they realized this.)
So Mary's role in spiritual warfare is very important, and has been borne out in such Rosary campaigns as those after WWII in Austria, where the Germans left w/o a shot fired, but where military uprisings in Poland and in Hungary were put down brutally by the Russians. Also, in Portugal, a rosary campaign in the '70s prevented the takeover of Communism there. And, then, of course, the naval sea battle of LePanto, where the outnumbered Christians won over a large Muslim onslaught. Her role as intercessor in spiritual warfare is crucial and is revealed in the 10th Chapter of Daniel where Daniel is praying for a long time and gets no response, but then an angel appears and tells Daniel that he had to battle the demonic forces/angels that ruled over the area before he could reach Daniel. So certain demonic beings have the right to reside and rule over certain areas, usually areas which have elected or been taken over by governments that promote immoral goals, today that would be such areas as China, Russia, much of the Middle East, etc. In Russia and China, for example, when Communism took over, by its definition, atheist, the Holy Spirit departs, and these demonic entities have the right to rule the area. Result: Some 60 million plus people slaughtered in Russia and China when Stalin and Mao Tse Tung took over there. And the carnage continues in China! And when these demonic entities are ruling an area, we can't fight them off alone by ourselves. First, we are too weak to fight demons and angels. Second, they then have the right to attack us because they have the authority to be there. That's why we need an intercessor for situations like this. They can't attack her. That's why the Rosary campaigns are so effective--and why Xi Jin Ping fears the Catholic Church.
The Wedding at Cana also shows other spectacular characteristics of Mary. The lucky recipient of her concern doesn't necessarily even have to ask her for help. Remember, the wedding couple didn't even know they were running out of wine, so they hadn't asked for help. Also, another aspect of her intercession: one does not have to be a believer to receive it. The people at the wedding were probably Jews, yes, but they were not yet believers in Christ as Savior, yet Mary's attentions and Christ's help were available to them. So Mary thereby becomes a big factor in bringing people to Christ. And her concerns for us are for our happiness and prosperity, for the things that make life worth living, as well as the heavy issues of morality and salvation, and spiritual warfare. The incident of the Wedding at Cana shows a spectacular characteristic of Mary that is not present in other saints, or in angels. Mary can and often does act without our request, for our benefit; whereas, other saints and angels must be asked for help.

So Jesus was king of the Jews or at least that's how many of His contemporaries referred to Him. You know who was the Queen in a Jewish kingdom? The mother of the King.
Learn history and read the Bible with time you will understand a lot of things like the keys around the neck and why that is so important when Jesus made Peter the first pope or guardian of His church.

How can you have a Father without a mother? Without Mary, Mother of Jesus, Spouse of the Holy Spirit, we would not have Jesus.
“For Christ did not enter into a sanctuary made by hands, a copy of the true one, but heaven itself, that he might now appear before God on our behalf.” Hebrews‬ ‭9:24‬
Mary, the Ark of the New Covenant, Jesus. God bless brother, pray for Divine assistance in our understanding.

What if it is God's will who are you to oppose it ? If it is proven by reason and by biblical proof then nobody can go against it . we're merely human being not the Theotokos or Mother of God the most blessed among all humanity. In Genesis she was already in the mind of God. In The book of Isaiah She is the Virgin prophesyed to be with Child to be called Immanuel or God with Us. Amen. Hail Mary the Lord is with thee blessed are among women and blessed is the Fruit of your womb Jesus. Amen.

Why is it a big deal? It's not as big of a deal as you make it. It lets us know a little bit about Mary and what she knew about Jesus. She obviously knew he was capable of miracles even though he hadn't done any publicly. We see that Jesus was close with his mother and she traveled with him and his brothers did as well( and yes he had brothers but that's another issue altogether).
What it doesn't mean is that we should pray to Mary, nor ask for her intercession. The dead do not hear prayer ,only God hears prayer. To ascribe this power to "saints" is to make "gods" of them. God says "I, the LORD, search the heart, I test the mind ". To ask for an intercessor other than Christ is blasphemy because" there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus" 1 Timothy 2:5. Hebrews says Christ ever lives to make intercession for us. To want intercession from Mary is an insult to Christ himself and to make his intercession nothing.
By reading the Bible you would never come to these conclusions because they are not taught in there. Praying to saints is a tradition of man. Read the Bible forget man's traditions for they cannot save. It's no different than the sin of the pharisees. Jesus said in Mark 7:6-7:
" He answered and said unto them, Well hath Esaias prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoureth me with lips, but their heart is far from me.Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching doctrines the commandments of men"

No Brother, actually you are wrong! Blessed Mary is the Ark of the Covenant! The womb that Bore God! Paying reverance to her wont be less better!! Also.. If I ask You to pray for my Mother suffering from Illness.. Does that Make Me or You defy what Paul said to Timothy? Its just we pray together! When 1 or 2 gather in my name.. I shall be in their midst!!
Also The Bible says, The Prayer of the Righteous is more pleasing to God!
Regarding the Rigjteousness of Mary and Saints.. Our prayer becomes powerful than before!!
Adding to that, Jesus didn't have any Brothers from Mary or Joseph! Mary was a Virgin Till Death! I mean No early Christian till Reformation.. Or even Luter did not believe or support this view! In Judaism.. People often call their Cousins as well as Neighbours as Brothers!! With the same term used as there!!
      And
If Dead can't hear our Prayers,
How in the world does The Rich Man from Hell ask Abraham in Heaven to inform His Brothers? Why didnt He ask God? Abraham is still there.. So are Mary and Saints!!
      Good Day!!:)

Mary is not the ark. Where did you get that? Not from the Bible. The ark is a type of Christ who though he took on flesh and dwelt among us had the “fullness of the deity dwelling bodily” as Colossians says. Jesus told the Jews “you search the scriptures because in them you think that you have eternal life, and they testify of me.” All of the Old Testament types point to Christ NOT Mary. This is another example of Catholics stealing honor and reverence that belongs to Christ and giving it to Mary. You may not realize it, but this is very serious idolatry nonetheless.
In regards to “reverencing” Mary. The Bible does not command this. We can respect her for her faithfulness to God but she is no different than any other Bible character. Hebrews 11 celebrates many heroes of the faith like Abraham, Moses, Noah, and others but I see what to do with Mary goes far beyond this and is a form of worship. The Bible says “Fear God and give glory to him” Rev 14:7, and “ let not any man glory in men” 1 Corinthians 3:21
I will say it again the Bible never commands us to pray to anyone other than God. The Bible never says that the dead hear prayer. Jesus told us to pray to the Father we would do well to obey him. I am alive and can hear you so I would be glad to pray for your mother if she were ill, this is totally different as we have a command in James to “pray one for another”. And Abraham was in Sheol with the rich man and could speak with him. This is not prayer. They were both dead and in Sheol. Again, not anything at all similar to you praying to Mary.
In regards to righteousness, neither Mary nor any “saint” has any more righteousness than I. The Bible says “ all our righteousness is like filthy rags” and “there is none righteous no not one”. The only righteousness we have comes from Christ as it is written “He made him sin who knew no sin, that we might become the righteousness of God in him” 2 Cor 5:21. We pray in Jesus’s name because it is his righteousness that allows us to boldly approach God, we have been “brought nigh by his blood”. Jesus said whatever we ask the father in HIS name the Father will give us. Christ alone is our intercessor, our righteousness, our very life!
I plead with you to get alone with God and ask him if the things I say are true. He will answer you and “you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free”.

@@whatistruth2810 Mary Isn't the Ark? What if I show you she is?
The Ark is where God dwelt in the OT!!
      Lets look at The Bible!
      Luke 1:43
Elizebeth says when Mary comes to Her, "And How is this that the Mother of My Lord has come to my care?"
2 Samuel 6:9 David says, "And How is this that the Ark of My Lord comes into My care?"
Notice how the word Mother replaced the word Ark here!! Mother of God!!
If you think this is just a silly referance that I am making!!
      Lets read further!!
Luke 1:56 reads, And Mary remained in the House of Elizebeth for THREE MONTHS!
2 Samuel 6:11 says, The Ark of The Lord remained in the House of Obed Edom for THREE MONTHS!!!
I hope you have started to see something!!:)
      FURTHER,
After the verse that Mary Remained with elizebeth for three months WE SEE BIRTH OF JOHN THE BAPTIST AND RESTORATION OF ZECHARIA'S HEARING!!!
2Samuel 6:11 reads, And The Lord BLESSED THE HOUSE OF OBED EDOM!!!
      Still not satisfied?
      Lets read further,
Luke 2: In Those days a Decree went from Augustus that all the WORLD(whole Israel) should be registered!
      Verse 4 reads
Joseph also went from Nazereth to Judea To THE CITY OF DAVID Called Bethlehem!!
2Samuel 6: 12 reads, As instructed by the Lord David went and Bought the Ark of the Lord to THE CITY OF DAVID!!!
Further: So David and all house of Israel were present!!
You see the TYPOLOGY do u?
2 Samuel 7: 18 starts from the Song Of David
Luke 1:46 starts with Mary's Song of Praise
David says verse 19: You have spoken also of your SERVENT's House
Luke 1:48 reads For He has look upon His servent!
Well Luke Clearly Potrays Mary As The Ark of the Covenant!!
Lets Look What tge Ark of the Covenant had inside!!
      1. Aron's Rod - Royal Priesthood
      2. Manna - Bread from Heaven
      3. Ten Commandments - Word of the Lord
Lets see how this potrays Jesus!
      1. Jesus is the Royal High Priest (Hebrews)
      2. Jesus said, I am the Bread of Life (John)
      3. In the Beginning was the Word (John)
Clearly Mary is greater than you!!!.
Mary's Song of Praise says, "From Now on all generations Shall call me blessed!! So Probably You aslo shoud stop saying Mary and replace it with BLESSED MARY!!
The Bible says all generations shall call me Blessed!!
That Surely makes Blessed Mother Mary Greater than You!!
St Agustine says, He whom the Heavens could not contain! A Women contained Him in Her womb! Mother Mary!!!
She is the New Ark of The Covenant!!
Since You said The Bible never mentions it!!
      Lets see
Does The Bible mention anywhere about PRAYING TO THE HOLY SPIRIT? NO
      PRAYING TO JESUS? NO
Doesn't mean that we shouldn't do it!!
You should pay more respect to Mary!!!
Also Mary is Sinless too!! That Makes her more greater!!
Because Is she had Sin!! It would be shameful act to say Jesus bore in Mary's Womb!! MARY HAD TO BE SINLESS!!!
And Brother your whole theory is True? Well, where was the Truth until 16th century? Hiding?
Even Luther believed that Mary was sinless!!
      Early Church Fathers Believed!!
You wanna know what Early Church Father Believed?
St. Ignatius of Antioch says, Clearly about the Hierarchy of Bishop and deacon and Priest in the CHURCH!! Do you have that?
St. Ignatius further says, We who consider the Bread and Wine as The REAL BREAD AND BLOOD OF CHRIST, and There are Heretics who have another Eucharist which is not the Truth!!!!
And This is from early 2nd Century!! i.e. 110 AD
      Gotcha?
      Christ Bless You
