  • This is our first test drive of a fully custom 1958 Chevy Biscayne that we've been restoring for the last few years.
It sports a 1993 Corvette LT-1 crate engine, 4L60E automatic overdrive transmission, Ford 9"" rear axle with positraction, rack & pinion steering, 4-wheel power disc brakes, and heavy-duty Hellwig anti-sway bars front and rear.
The interior is fully custom with 4 bucket seats, a full-length center console that flows into a Corvette-styled waterfall between the seats and a double-hump package tray that flows with the tops of the rear seats. An overhead console is also installed with a HomeLink system and two pair of dome lights. The door panels are also custom to match the interior with the door latch handles hidden in the door pull pocket.
Additional goodies include modern A/C with driver-controlled vents to the rear seats, Dakota Digital dash and cruise control, power windows, power door locks, rearview mirror with outside air temperature and compass display.
The pedals set was adapted from a '69 Camaro - as was the horse shoe (or "staple") shifter. A shortened shifter surround was installed in the console for the rear seat window switches and DC/USB outlets.
This is our first test drive of this project. All-in-all, it went very well with only a few minor issues that we had anticipated and already know how to remedy.

My first car was a 1958 four door Biscayne. I had it from 1965 to 1969. Forty years later I decided to swing by a Home Depot in Lancaster, California and I see a tired looking one in the parking lot. The young guy that owned that tired looking Chevy was 85 miles from his home in Ridgecrest and needed a $35.00 rebuilt part of some kind to get back home. He had been asking people for money and still needed like $15.00 more. I could see the kid wasn't scamming me. He told me how he had talked the auto parts guy down to $35. I could relate to him. Telling him he would also need fuel and what not to get home I gave him $40. He was REALLY happy. He was a guy with a 1958 Chevrolet Biscayne who was in dire need. I was the guy who could relate to him and had money and a helping disposition. If he had a different car I would have not gone over to talk with him. I think God needed someone to help him and brought me to that particular spot :)

I'm no fan of those Monte Carlo wheels either. But the client decided that is what will be on the car. Still have the original wheels, rings and hubcaps
