    There is something that if you have not done it, I advise you to do it and it is the catalytic protector against theft ... I just bought my tacoma and I made those changes that you did and I put the catalytic protector on it and now I feel better and safe..i love my 2023 "3rd" generation tacoma!!!

    Was shopping around for tires for my Dad's work truck and that Discount Tire is great, best Prices in town. Have a Tire Center (used to be a Les Schwab) local to me who wanted $300 a tire for Wild Peaks AT3, mounted and balanced. It was a good thing I had looked up prices, they would not even price match. Got them for $220 mounted and balanced at said Discount Tire have the appointment this Tuesday, my Dad is going to love them.

    This will be a great series. Unfortunately I won’t be able to watch it because it’s too depressing. I once had a 2008 Tacoma TRD Off Road double cab with a 6-speed and the old school pull type e brake. I traded it in for a Subaru in 2011 for an absurdly low amount. 😭😭😭 not many things I regret more than that.

    Great video Jason. I first found your purchasing video today and will now be going down the rabbit hole haha. I have a 21 Taco limited but may try to get the Pro or Off-road with the upcoming redesign if I like it. What octane are you running and what oil? Your GTI was a great spec as well.

    • @JasonExplainsThings

      Hey Seth! So I'm currently running 91 octane. Many folks say that's overkill but I find that I'm getting noticeably better gas mileage that way. For oil I haven't done an oil change yet because I'm at 4k miles. But when I do (at 5k) I'll use Havoline PRO-RS full synthetic 0w-20. Full transparency... Havoline is a channel sponsor.

    Really helpful video, subbing. I have a 21 TRD Off Road and was actually thinking about getting the same wheel and tire setup. What is the best way logistically speaking not only buy but have them fitted and mounted? Do I ship everything to a local shop like discount tire and set up an appointment? Also thinking about doing the TRD suspension upgrade, any thoughts there?

    • @JasonExplainsThings
      @JasonExplainsThings  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      So I bought the wheels from a Toyota dealership in Oregon and then took them to Discount Tire to buy the tires and have them mounted. DT can get the wheels too but the price was higher.
      I’ve heard good things about the TRD suspension. It’s essentially a rebranded Bilstein 5100 kit. So you’re paying a pretty large premium to keep your full coverage warranty. But it’s good stuff, it’s just possible to have the same suspension cheaper.

    CBI is waaaaay overpriced. Nice stuff, but I can never justify the outrageous prices they ask, so I never buy anything from them and never recommend that anyone does.
    This truck is already exceptionally capable. I too went with the TRD rims and couldn't be happier. I don't need a 10k suspension and some ridiculous tire size to get pretty much anywhere a Yeep can get. Rims, tires, sliders and a good winch will get you very, very far.

    • @JasonExplainsThings
      @JasonExplainsThings  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      All good thoughts. I understand your feelings on CBI. Part of why I enjoy their stuff is the attention to detail and the fact it's all made in Idaho. Another consideration is their design language, so all your additions can match. I also like that they don't loudly brand their stuff. Ironman USA for example is fine, but they brand their stuff in a way I find cheesy. Again though, you're opinion is warranted and I understand it.
      Another great option for USA made sliders, skid plates, etc is Cali Raised LED. Not as nice (I installed their stuff on my 4Runner), but still very well made and provides great protection. You'll just need to do your own touching up, etc when it comes to the finish.

  • @MrMikey1273

    Changing the tires is definitely a good idea. I only have a 2020 SR5 4x4 and I went with 265/75R16 in the stock dark grey wheels. I didn't consider different wheels because of cost and they looked great with the cement grey color from the factory. I picked Cooper discoverer AT tires which aren't as aggressive as KO2 but for the camping, gravel roads and stuff I do they are great. Definitely better than the street tires the sr5 comes stock with.

    • @GrmpaJA
      @GrmpaJA ปีที่แล้ว

      Consider paying off the truck before spending. I feel absolutely stupid. Having spent over 5k on my new 23 Tacoma off-road. I know now. Don't buy any extras until it is at least significantly paid for.
