On the same day - a Delhi Court acquitted 10 people in connection with the Delhi Riots Case. Also most of the high profile arrests in the Bhima Koregao case are on bail.
Why has the Modi govt failed to start trial - even in the most high profile of cases? Why is Umar Khalid in jail despite Govt having 4 YEARS to start a trial? Wither the BJP Govt is scam / riots and terror friendly .... or it never really had any evidence - the idea was to just jail political opponents.

1. New laws that allow arrest first, without proof, only based on "suspicion". These laws also have the "guilty until proven innocent" basis.
2. The agencies under the govt can now take their sweet time (years) to "build a case"/ collect proof.
The govt knows that the courts won't find these innocent people guilty, once the case starts. The punishment is waiting in jail for the case to even start.

I feel sorry for Umar Khalid (assuming that if the courts had any whiff of evidence against him, he would have been sentenced by now) and the others in similar situations. India is land of extreme inequalities. Sadly, people who are not impacted by it, somehow, assume that they can never fall prey to the same hopelessness. When the Chief Justice of India doesn't care about the bad optics of mingling with a political leader, then what can you expect from the others? 2.After polling about 5 lakh votes in recent parliament elections his chances of getting bail became strong. He had applied for bail number of times,but was rejected by the court.
3. Omar and Mehbooba are crying because people of kashmir consider Er Rashid a strong alternative to them.
4. He got bail after 5 years and for 5 years they couldn't prove anything against him.
5. Omar Abdullah served as foreign minister during BJP's govt. And Mehbooba mufti was a coalition partner of BJP from 2014 to 2017 in JK. So labelling Er rashid as BJP proxy is ridiculous.
