Hi, in previous tutorial that was explained that it should be the norm. There is no way I can teach autocad going over the same thing over and over within that little time. I think you might get a lot if you look at the previous tutorials which will give you a way better idea of the things that are not explicit in this video. It is supposed to be a sequence from one to another. Still you have a valid point for first time viewers and those not following the series from the beginning. Thanks a lot
If you want the corners even, all you need to do is enter the exact same distance for both, the 1st and the 2nd once it prompts you. If you forget to enter the 2nd one, CAD will use the default or last settings for that command. So the key is using both distances the same. And this works for the command Chamfer and also once you use the option within a different command as in this case. Hope this helps, Best regards
what you might not be noticing is that Cad is asking for the radius of the ellipse, (although you can also use the diameter with an extra step) If you want to have an ellipse of EX 36 inches wide by 24 inches height you need to enter 18 by 12, that's how cad will get it right. if you enter the exact numbers then you get one object twice as big as what you wanted.
Thanks for your response. I'm using the Autocad Mechanical 2013 student version. I guess i've figured it out by putting a little bit more effort in it and figuring out some stuff on my own. But i'm noticing lots of differences between our version and that can be VERY frustrating for a beginner like me! Cause it should take me about 30 min. to fix it but because of the differences it's taking me hours, cause i have to figure it out on my own somehow! (D with keyboard didn't work btw!)
You are right, one option is the reference lines but also remember that using drawing aids like snap and grid you can do it easily, at first sight you can see that is in the right position if you have both dwg aids active; then you can rely on that. My best regards
Of course, what version of cad are you using? This is important to know. Nevertheless try this: After you specify the first point of the rectangle, type D with the keyboard and hit enter to see if it request to enter the dimensions. If it works for you please post to let me know. Please double check the version and get back to me. Best regards
Hello, The grid size is set to 1" on X & Y equally and is using the dotted grid type instead of the regular one. If you combine it with Snap is a good starting point until you feel comfortably with the drawing aids. You might want to look at: Learning AutoCAD 2013 tutorial #4: Basic Drawing Aids. Hope this helps and best regards.
Depending on the Sys variable and how it counts the degrees it might be a different number. Also unless you specify the settings cad use the last setting for every following operation and that applies to almost any command. Arcs are created by default tangent to the last segment and angles are included. Just try dif. angles like 33, -45, 65, -133, etc with each one the preview should be different and so should be the result once you use the 2nd point. Try it and let me know how it goes. Regards
At that time, is using the Angle option of the Pline command while it is active. Since it precedes the explanation for the Circle command, just want to make sure your are using the right command. It shouldn't give you problems if you are using it just as is in the video. But just in case, try doing the case counterclockwise to make sure is not a Sys Variable. Is cad requesting the 2nd point after you enter 250 or just is doing the circle you mention without asking for the 2nd point? let me know.
Hello and thanks for your input. Tutorials up to 14 are up and running. Still pending are 15-20 which will be resuming after tonight. Last week I uploaded a video on 3D and the 2nd one and complementary part for the 3D is been uploaded now so I think will be ready in @ 30 mins. Hope this helps and feel free to share your feedback. Regards
Mehdi Bakhtiari It is absolutely my pleasure. Thank you for your praise. Next videos will be really helpful and after tutorial 9 you will have a project from 2D all the way to 3D. Regards
Hello, The grid size is set to 1" on X & Y equally and is using the dotted grid type instead of the regular one. You can change it easily in the options for snap & grid which are considered drawing aids. You might want to look at: "Learning AutoCAD 2013 tutorial #4: Basic Drawing Aids" for a better explanation on this. Best regards
I like you got it, it is explained there. However sometimes you won't be able to zoom in or out and if that's the case you need to "regen" the dwg by using the command of the same name. Best regards
to be honest, it all depends on how much you already know about cad. If nothing, then I highly suggest to start from the very beginning, although I'm assuming you are familiar with cad based on your comments. The first tutorials is a lot of basic theory and is kind of boring although necessary, If you know the very basics you might want to try starting at #3. Again it all depends on what you already know
correction: 5 is half of 10 and 12 is half of 24. I enter 5 and 12 (both are radius) the result on the ellipse is 10 and 24 of diameter which is the intention.
If you mean is on top of the first one, don't forget you need to click first where you want it to be located. Please post back to see if this is what you need. Regards
oh i saw the previous tutorial .. that is why i know what you were doing in the video. but yeah u r right. time is money so first time viewers have to start from the beginning.
right, don't get frustrated, I'm sure i need to improve my teacher skills L.O.L. but seriously if you want to learn cad you will need to concentrate in little details that will make the difference at the end. However is not that complicated once you get used to it. My best regards
@easycad4you: Thank you so much for those videos you've posted, can you post videos about making 3d in autocad? I'm an IT student and I would like to work as a draftsman as my part time job for the time being. Thanks and more power to you.
Sadly they are different and some stuff are even in different places. Still, just to be honest, trying to see on your own how things work will give you a better comprehension and you'll never forget. It's part of the learning process, besides no book or course will teach you All of the software, so if you want to really master it, that's an intrinsic part of what you need to do. Good for you and feel free to ask again if you need. Regards
Thanks so much! Videos are the best! Keep it up! Just one question.. When i'm drawing a rectangle and want to enter the measurements like you do i do not have the option dimensions like you do. The only options i get are area and rotation. So i'm stuck. Could you please help me out?!
What units are you using? How are you verifying the dimensions?. If the difference is small, it could be the precision of your units. Nevertheless (Ex) if you enter 3'-0" that's going to be the length of your line. Please describe what is happening to you in detail so i can guide you through. Regards
when you have your mouse set to repeat the last command with only one right click that's enough, mine is set like that, in your case if you don't know how to do it I can let you know there are some ways to do it.
is not 2 inches but 2 feet which is 24 inches wide by 10 inches high. In cad you can use any number as long as you clarify to cad which one you are using by inserting the right symbol. In the video all i entered is half of that cause ellipse command is using the radius.
Yes, it's asking me for the endpoint, but it's giving me about half of a circle for the resultant curve instead of your nice, subtle curve. I haven't done anything but make the first arm of the pline, pressed a, then a again before inputting 250.
hello mate my second rectangle is just the same with the first, I follow ur instruction click rectangle select chamber and enter the value which 3 by 3
At approx. 5:20 you say the columns will be 4" from the base, but you drew them 2"!! This drove me nuts when my fillet rectangles weren't matching up at 5:48! Anyhow, your tutorials are very helpful!
+easycad4you No problem, your tutorials have been a great help for me! You do move a bit fast sometimes, but that's not a big deal. I'm a valuable asset at my company as a geologist/AutoCAD drafter/designer's assistant. Thank you!
Arvind S Sorry for the late reply. You have it in the command prompt or command line, still if you use the down arrow with the command active it will give you the options menu. Let me know if this helps and regards.
Hi there, you can get free versions of CAD participating in Autodesk Education Community. The website is autodesk.com. For that you need to be (a) a faculty member; or (b) a student; or (c) an Autodesk Assistance Program participant. And of course each option has its own requirements. Specially option (c) is for people who wants to go back to Architecture or Engineering fields and are currently unemployed. Versions are fully functional with limits to use for commercial purposes. Regards
If anyone can help me, I have 2 questions/problems here. 1. In making object in 10:46 (polygon with arc modification), at first I entered the angle 250 like you did, and it didn't work, the CAD drew a larger portion of the circle (the 250 degree portion), and instead neglect the smaller portion (110 degree) that it supposed to draw. So then I re-did the command and put 110 degree instead, and it worked. My question is, why the 250 degree worked on your drawing but not on mine? 2. In making the same object on the right side of the facade, I have faced another problem regarding the arc-drawing. This time, putting 110 degree didn't work, because the arc faced the wrong way, and I haven't find the solution to this. So for now I resolved this problem by just copying the object. But still, I want to know it's proper solution. Thanks in advance!
while you are drawing a arc , your start point and end point are important when the arc 250 doesn't work then I think you chose wrong start point and end point just switch them and see it may work
Thanks for your comment Ravinder671. We appreciate your input and anything you think about this. Please feel free to share your thoughts so we all can improve our efforts. If you mean 3D Max, maybe in the future i will do it, but for now i will finish first the 2013 Cad tutorial. Regards
Hi, I'm using Autocad 2013 and at around the time 10:50 in this video, when you are entering the 250 degree angle command, I have tried this over and over and cannot get it to do anything but give me the same almost complete circle, seemingly no matter which angle I input. Do you know what is going wrong?
That's an interesting question. Actually you can get a solid, thorough understanding of how CAD works, but my tutorials are considered to be for beginners. One thing is true, unless you get them right, you won't be able to master it in the future. Best regards.
THnx a lot for ur video but still can u explain me why i´m not getting the size exactly of urs and even i have verified unit and last but not least can u give me link of videos where i can learn drawing simple stuff like chair, desk , shoes , closet..with every minute detail.
I followed this tutorial several times but I can't seem to figure out one thing. 1. the 250 degree did not work on the other side. 125 degree did however, the circles within are not the same size on both sides. Please help!
Thanks a lot for your comment. We will be doing Cad 3D tutorials pretty soon, but you should be comfortable enough with 2D prior to start doing 3D. Keep in touch and you'll get it. Just practice as much as possible. What you learn in 2D will be fully used in 3D. Best regards

I'll be uploading in a couple of hours and still need to produce some 12 more as a basic course.

How many more are missing?? , by the way.. Great explonation..
Hi! This is really Helpful. How do u get the drop down at 0:48? What is the shortcut key? U change it to dimensions. I didnt get that.

I find chamfer a bit hard to use. depending on what measurements I give it, it comes out looking funny with uneven corners.

open cad then when into another program. When i went back to cad it was minimize is there a command to maximize the application? task =0?

alright thx buddy
oh . you entered half of that b/c of the radius. i see i see.
