What a beautiful way to describe art! Something devoid of any inherent perfection that is instead a part of ourselves which, however impermanent, fleeting or constant, is romanticised - yes, that is the word! - simply romanticised, chiselled or scratched into existence into what we think of as ‘a piece of art’. I may have interpreted my own meaning from what you said, but I just wanted to thank you for sharing & let you know that I'm saving your comment in my stash of wonderful things I want to remember while in the creative space ! 😊✨
surrounding yourself with beautiful things when trying to create something beautiful is SO important!! my bedroom is covered in paintings and artwork and quotes that I love so that I can absorb the beautiful energy and try to craft something magnificent out of it
perfectionism can also be a source of writer’s block, and the best way to overcome this in my experience is writing silly things that aren’t intended for an audience. i was unmotivated to write for months until i wrote an enemies to lovers story about a bing maps driver and a google earth driver 💀
I've just gulped down my second can of monster surrounded by studies which I have been procrastinating for the past year and suddenly this video gets recommended to me. The universe is so cute-
i appreciate that this video isn't just a pool of rigid productivity, or telling people to stay within the frames of strict routines. i really love the 'surrounding yourself with beautiful things' part, because i've never heard other people talk about it, and yet i've found that that really gives me inspiration. thank you lady dakota!
I really love the “consistency isn’t always key” advice because it’s something I apply to my creative work. I’m still very much a beginner artist and author who just writes and draws for herself. But I have found that my best pieces are created at random. And so it may take me a long, long time to finish a story, but it’s worth it in the end
i cannot begin to describe the excitement i receive when i find out youve uploaded a brand new video, but instead of immediately clicking just to say ive seen it, i wait until the quiet of evening when i can sit at my desk and sip some warm tea and spend that 10-20 minutes just enjoying the calming atmosphere you lovingly craft into your videos to their full glory 🖤 lately ive been in quite a discouraging creative slump so this video was perfectly timed as usual! i am so excited for this much needed boost of inspiration :) much love
I personally had big struggle studying and using my time in a more creative way. Recently I deleted all the social media apps I had on my phone and downloaded this Forest app, that makes you leave your phone and not use it while the digital tree is growing. Now my average on my phone is 1 hour a day (studying on the train) while at home I use my time for more creative thinks like writing and studying, while the digital trees are growing on the App. Gotta say, phones are the a big killer of creativity, concentration and happiness. But on the other hand, if yall are stressed or just need a break, crocheting is a really fun thing to do, as I recently discovered.
another lovely video dear dakota, tysm!! If i can share what works for me personally: 1. i like using notebook and writing down all initial thoughts, then i'll edit the text in word document, with that way i have two separate places for starting ideas and edited stuff 2. this one method never failed me - i start writing down something, anything, first word that pops in my head, something i thought about in the day however frivolous it seems, and then i add another word, and that leads me to a whole sentence - and sometimes something inside me flourishes, unconsciences part of me is brought out and i meet new part of myself also to feed your cannibalism era, you need to read Life ceremony from Sayaka Murata sorry for my english, it’s my second language
I have learned with in the last few years to not push myself too much as you have stated in this video. I'll write a chapter when I can. Life gets busy.
completely agree with the cannibalism take, like yes it is disgusting but the meaning behind it in poetry can really be twisted into a sort of overwhelming lust and even intimacy. Its why I loved the ending of Bones and All, they used it in an indescribable way to showcase the character's obsession and the intimacy of being consumed by another entirely - this was just a more grotesque and literal way of conveying the theme of becoming one with the person you love.
there's nothing like listening to you talk and entirely absorving that which you speak. it helps me and heals me every time, thank you so much for existing Dakota.
exactly what i needed to hear as i head into winter break, away from the space of being asked to constantly create, and to just generate motivation for myself. a beautiful video ♥️
I've been stuck in this state of numbness for weeks. I just couldn't create or make any progress in my own passion project. Everything seemed so... confusing and meaningless. Then you came along! And you told me all the things I needed to hear😊😊 I've always adored your content but this particular video touched my heart strings ❤️ you Ignited my passion. Thank you so much🌟🫧 🥰
Thank you for sharing a video on this important topic. Wrote 3 chapters yesterday and today could barely muster 1. I dont even think what I wrote today deserves a chapter lol 😂 but alas keep showing up, keep trying. I finished my journal a few weeks ago and am patiently awaiting my new one to come in the mail today. Maybe free flow is what I am in need of today. Best of luck my fellow writers. ❤
on that topic of cannibalism you should watch Claire Denis' film Trouble Every Day. there's a good tiff talk by angelo muredda on youtube. i think u would really like it and find it interesting. its not her best film cinematography-wise but the themes and concepts have stuck with me.
I feel so validated by this video and your words🥹❤️ also about basking myself in what I find beautiful and inspiring, just wanted to let you know that EVERYTIME I need inspiration I watch a video of yours or a picture or I read something you wrote or recommended. Just wanted you to know how good you are for my creative soul and for my mental health also✨
i romanticize my chaotic artistry as an aesthetic and go with it
