I don't think looking at older drawings motivates you to improve, but rather helps you feel accomplished when you have improved, which can lead to inspiration, and helps you see that all your works has been for something.
#1 - 01:03 - Draw regularly. #2 - 02:15 - Use references (and don't be ashamed of it). #3 - 04:14 - Do studies (careful copies) of drawings you admire. #4 - 06:10 - Try looking at the thing you're drawing as an abstract arrangement of shapes. #5 - 07:47 - Pay attention to the level of contrast in your drawings: darks vs. lights. #6 - 09:55 - Get your art supplies at a real art store. #7 - 12:30 - Learn the three different systems of perspective. #8 - 14:01 - Challenge yourself by drawing in different art styles. #9 - 16:53 - Don't expect progress to occur in a matter of weeks, or even months. #10 - 18:02 - If comparing your art to that of other people is bringing you down, then stop doing it. You're welcome.
As someone not familiar with his drawings, I was absolutely floored by the effect of the white gouache highlights. The mask looks incredibly 3D and metallic.
you've been my art teacher for years and many more to come. I will progress as you have did and I hope to help others as well .. Thank you Mark crilley for sharing your art and giving us tips. we all appreciate your tips and art advice. You're like our art teacher who has inspired us to be better but you help lift our confidence as well as actually teach us how to truly draw. -~- I will admit I have comparing issues as well but I'll practice whenever I can and I keep my old art work to see how I progressed. Thank you for caring and sharing with us even though you don't personally know us.
the greatest teacher i ever had said (during my first drawing class, in my first year in art school): "a lot of people say they can't draw. i'm not going to teach you how to draw, i'm going to teach you how to see". he was referring to showing us how to develop the sight to understand the physical relationships between objects in space as well as the physical characteristics of objects themselves, ie how do lines associate with each other to describe a shape, or articulate distance? your statement that we are not drawing a tree, but are drawing shapes is comparable with the advice of my drawing prof. thanks for the insight :)
I cant believe I completely forgot about marks channel. he was the one that encouraged me to continue doing art and I have now rediscovered his channel after years of neglect of not watching his content. time for a binge I think!
"If you're learning from someone who does not have a very professional look, you are probably going to pick up their bad habits." That was very well put. This is often enough an issue that never comes up upon asking an artist for advice. I've been having severe anxiety with my work. I asked an artist who had a 4 year art degree how my work could use improvement. Instead of constructive criticism, he told me that it looked like it was from DeviantArt. And that he would skim right past it on the site if he saw it. It actually hurt. I get that I'm an amateur but there needs to be more advice like yours. It gives me hope. Thank you.
I started drawing electronically on my pc. Drawing on paper is more fun, but for pc its more convenient, and erasing it way easier. Transitioning will take most people weeks to get used to by the way.
does mark know how many artists have actually started drawing because of him?? does he know that he's the underlying reason why so many artists today are flourishing? the role he has played in every ones life is different yes, but for many people he was the one who turned on the switch not true? does he _know_
With your videos you teach me how to teach, but there was something I didn't knew how to really grasp and it was the drawing of the hand I mean you did it well but for me was difficult to break a way to explaining it when you said "does someone has a way of drawing hands"! I was like what??? No mark no way!!!! xD I just draw what I see but since I don't use construction lines the only way to draw a hand from a basic form was with your tutorial using the square! Now I know how to teach it but seriously you have some amazing tips I got some from art attack so when you're about to paint an environment you want to use less water for the painting in the front for palm trees and such then the backround is more and more watery the further you go the more whater you put, then you could use pen or markers for the details in the sand and the palm tree! The other tip I have is something I found in dibujando.net when I was a late teenager! Each and every person over 13 years old that measures like 1'70 has like 7 heads of height from tip to toe! That blew me away!!!!! Anyway than you for your tutorials I learned a lot from using pens and another anime style you made! I got my own too but yours is really original as well! And I'm a fan of sci-fi and hyperrealism as well, one day I will make my own comics! I'm self taught by the way for 31 years old! Being a kid I always wanted to draw the Mona Lisa, the Sphinx, the statue of liberty etc.! As you said I tried to copy many different art styles from different people through the years like my other hero of drawing Leonardo Da Vinci, artists like Akira Toriyama and Nobuhiro Watsuki! If you want a tip from me it would be this one: when you draw a hand or any form that is a compund form or a simple irregular form like a female form always look for a thing that looks similar, even if the reference is difficult to grasp in the paper you could at least l draw a pear shape for the female and like a curved cup for the hand! Observing one's hand is the best reference too! Thank you again! And keep surprising us keep drawing! I'll try to catch you and teach in youtube once I have my camera! I will use a different anime art style!
I think in a few years I will be able to draw realistic things.I am only ten and my drawings already almost look realistic.when I was seven I drew two realistic pictures:a cat and a dog.
I finally treated myself to "Mastering Manga" a while back, and honestly it has helped so much with the technicalities of manga styling! This video rings true in so many ways, it's great that you are able to reach so many people especially who might not have supportive art teachers. I haven't been in an art class for 7 years now (jeez I'm getting old D:) but I was blessed with an incredibly encouraging teacher, and I'm eternally grateful. Thank you for being that person for some people ^_^
Thank you so much Markcrilley!!! I gave up on drawing before I found this video. I was depressed every time I would try to draw. I didn't know were to start, I was soulless when I was drawing. I kept comparing my drawing to professionals, and I was in an endless loop! I saw this video, and you are my new favorite channel on TH-cam, You are my role model!!! Thank you So MUCH!! I am drawing again, and I LOVE IT!!! You changed my view on art! Thank you!!
I'm 71 and I love to draw, and you would think I've been drawing for years, but not true. I went through chemo twice in my life and I have forgotten things like drawing. So now I'm a practicing Newby and I like what you draw. My husband is an artist and he can make up cartoons off the top of his head.
I am a violinist...oh my gosh the connections Learning the violin is very hard, but dedication and my love for it helped me get good Thanks for the art tips. They'll help me a ton!
I'm also a violinist. My family and teacher support me and say I'm amazing. It is a difficult instrument to learn but I always practice, which is the reason why I am very skilled at it!👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🎻🎻🎻
I wish I could like this video a hundred times. I've watched it probably once a month or so for the past year, and each time it helps me in diffferent ways. Cheers Mark!
I've only recently discovered this channel but I've come to eagerly await every new video. It's just so cool to have someone with your experience talk so openly and honestly. You very obviously do this because you have a passion for drawing and teaching. It's visible on the page. It's audible in your voice. You don't do this to sell a service, and you don't hold anything back that some might consider 'premium content'. You plug your books on occasion but that's never the point of the video and it's never done in a pushy way- just a "support me if you like this stuff" way. You present yourself as the viewer's friend and equal, not as their professor, and not someone whose time is too expensive or valuable to share with the plebs. I think you are an awesome human bean, Mr Crilley. Thanks, and keep it going! :)
I discovered this channel in 2008, back when i only used to get around 2gb of data for internet every month. It was such a treat to watch youtube videos back then for me. I always enjoy watching this channel. Thanks for the great content Mark!
I was seriously feeling so down about my drawing skills. I love to draw and I always have but I've never gotten to the level I would like to be at...I thought I would check out your videos to see what you've been up to since you are one of my favorite artists and I had never seen this video so I decided it was the perfect one for me to watch right now. I really appreciate your teaching style and the way you are very calm and precise. You've helped me a lot along my journey and I just wanted to say thank you for always posting new content and just being someone to look up to. Thanks Mark!
Mr. Crilley, have you ever thought of redrawing one of your old drawings from high school? I'd like to see a comparison, y' know, to see how much you've improved since then?
To add: 1) Set a timer when you're working on a project. (Maybe it's 90 minutes). Then take a break, and possibly switch projects. This can help you stay fresh and see your art a new way the next time you look at it. You also won't go too far down the wrong road with a single drawing this way. 2) Don't immediately share finished pieces. Save them up. Maybe get 10 to 20 pieces finished before sharing your work. This will allow you to keep your enthusiasm for your work, and not get the wind taken out of your sails if the one piece you just finished doesn't get a lot of immediate feedback. 3) Don't be afraid to re-draw something.
Forgot the biggest one 4) Learn how to draw volumes--learn how to convey the third dimension on flat paper. Probably the hardest drawing skill to grasp. I've found it's about 85% of drawing--at least for me.
One of the things I do is hold the paper up to a light source (the brighter the better), and look at the drawing "backwards"- if things that look alright the normal way don't look good the other way, I'll know if and how to change it. I know I look like an idiot when I do it but it helps me so whatever.
Whenever I need a line to be really straight, I use a ruler. I don't feel that the ability to draw perfectly straight lines is a prerequisite for being a good or even great artist.
The last tip hit me hard. Thank you for all the wonderful tips mark. I quit drawing for a few years because I saw my friends who started drawing later than me do better. And I didn't see myself improving so I gave up. I even stopped watching your videos even though I used to be addicted to them. Now I'm binge watching because I decided to start drawing again. Funny enough now a days I prefer drawing landscape over manga.
I subscribed when the person who has been teaching me, how to draw for a little over a year, suggested I watch your videos. I love this particular drawing, with the help of my teacher, your videos, and many others I hope to accomplish my goals.# 9 is one of the most important parts, when it comes to drawing. patience, and practice is the key !
Everything you say is so true.I am 16 and so frustrated with my drawings. I feel like my drawings are inferior to others. My drawings are black and white, but with all your advice i am sure i will improve😄😄 Thank you
I can draw, but I have problems with inking and painting. My question would be: Do you prefer when a drawing is painted on a computer program or by hand?
+Shiro Narukami It's really up to the artist, what they need and want to get out of their art, to decide how they will pursue a medium. Some artists really prefer the physicality of pens, paper, ink and paint over digital methods. On the other hand different artists like the free-form and forgiving nature of digital programs, but nothing says you have to be all in on any given method or medium and understanding both can often improve an artists overall work. I know I'm not Mark but I hope I gave some potential insight.
+Shiro Narukami depends how you prefer it. both of those media look amazing in there own way. both have flaws. and both are fun to do. thought i use tradisoal to get ideas out on paper. and polish the ideas on digital. thought somethings sometimes look better tradisoal or digital.
Number 10 really applied to me, but I can't stop comparing my art to others. Even during this video I picked up my drawing and looked at it compared to yours, and then I felt, terrible. I really try to stop but I just can't..
I know how you feel, but one way I turned that feeling around is that when you compare your drawing to someone else's just think to yourself, "One day I'll be able to draw even better than this"! I personally have a very competitive streak and that probably helps to make this trick work but it's still a good trick. If that doesn't work, or even if it does work, try to see what it is about that other artwork you like so much, whether it be a certain stroke you like or maybe even how the colors blend well together, try to figure out how or why they did so, not only will you get better, you'll also see that by trying to learn what they did that their level of artwork really isn't so far away that you can't ever get there. I hope this helps and happy drawings ^^
I don't really know this feeling. Whenever I see my artwork and someone else's I see two different artist's works, one with room for improvement. I don't know if that's natural but hey, that's my way of thinking.
I have the same problem, I'm really insecure about my drawings. I do not live alone, so im constantly stressed that someone is going to walk in and see.
I've been an artist as long as I can remember and I'm 55. I agree with you totally when you say putting pencil to paper is the one thing you would always rather be doing. And in my humble opinion, all 10 of your suggestions were spot on.
I found your channel today and I just have to say, you have such a beautiful and humble soul. At one point I just smiled because of how kind you are, and its refreshing. Especially to a stay at home mom who is trying to make it in this big wide world of art. I thank you for that. Of course, subscribed.
Haha, I have caught myself watching your videos a several times now, not necessarily because of the subject, but rather because I can relax by watching you draw :D However these videos also help me find new perspective as an artist, so thank you!
Mark thank you. This video opened my eyes on how I should approach drawing and really boosted my confidence to a new level. Drawing is really something I love and you made me appreciate my art more. Sincerely thank you.
I agree,i was feeling a lack of confidence in my art untill I saw this video,Mark Crilley your amazing and my idol thank you for the inspiration to draw with confidence again!
My name is Evan Borton, I’m from South Carolina and I want to be a better drawer. Many of the steps you went over relate so much to me especially the last one. I’ve watched a lot of your videos for months and I can honestly say you are a real inspirational person and a gifted drawer. I’ll add your videos to my sources of study as I try and get better. Keep it up and thanks for being here.
A tip that i would recommend is doing gesture drawings. They help A LOT, especially for those that want to get better at drawing full body pictures whether of real people or manga characters. After drawing about 80 gesture drawings I saw a huge improvement in my art in terms of drawing full body figures.
"You probably already heard this from your art teacher" Wow Just wow MY art teachers just come up to me, say "this is wrong, so is this. fix it" and just fly away for half a hour 8'D
In my experience all my art teachers have been very helpful, it's unfortunate that there's terrible teachers out there, keeping us for achieving our potential.
+Sergio Fierro In the past i took some lessons and it was with this really big group so he only had a short amount of time with each person, and he did the same he just pointed out the wrongs and walked away even when i asked what excactly i did wrong. I just stopped and learned from youtube tutorials. Believe me they are so much better than expensive drawing lessons
Just started drawing 3 days ago. Definitely helps to draw every day. One tip I would add is study your own work. I like to look at the things that make me feel like "this is a good drawing" and vice versa. I try to replicate the good parts and edit the issues in future works.
a big THANK YOU! especially for advice #10 !!! I used to draw a lot when I was at school and only started again about a year ago. I constantly fight the urge to give it up again when I see how crude my stuff turns out compared to that of other artists and even to my own older stuff. I guess I need more patience.
I've always enjoyed the fine arts, music, painting and drawing, learning languages, all of these things require practice, patience, and commitment. I use to draw when I was in grade school and some in high school, but I wasn't too serious about it at the time, and now that I have a lot of time on my hands I wanted to get back into it and start to take it more seriously. This video has already helped me a ton as I wasn't feeling great about my recent drawings, but I've got a long way to go to get better. Thanks Mark!
Hey Mark! I want you to know that I was once a viewer of yours, very interested in art. Many things happened throughout high school that got in the way, and as a result I have not heard your voice in a few years! I am now about to graduate from high school, and with my life being a little better, I am back! It feels good to watch a video of yours again. Hope I can be loyal this time ;)
I started drawing like 2 days ago and I enjoyed drawing so much that I got myself a tablet. I finished my first original character 2 hours ago and show it to people to take their opinion. They said I suck and have no talent. I should stop drawing etc etc. My heart was broken and had no determination to continue. I was crying since then in my bed. Thanks to your video I have a little hope now. Thanks +markcrilley
awwww don't worry dude, you started 2 days ago it takes years to be "perfect" or even acceptable.your lucky you have a tablet while poor folk like me have pen and paper.if you practice everyday like mark said, you WILL get better and those mean people will eat there words.(sorry I have bad English)
+Tunahan Koçak Vay tek Türk izleyici ben değilmişim :D Bence sen kimseyi dinleme ve sadece çiz her gün biraz çize çize daha iyi çizim yapmaya başlarsın :D
Yea just ignore them. At least you finally found your passion. You definitely should continue because I'm certain people will get amazed of your drawings and will start asking you to draw something for them. I wasn't that good before but now I'm getting to where Mark is with just pencils not colour, everyone says I'm really good at drawing and by just hearing that will give you courage to do better. Took me more than a year to learn realism.
+Tunahan Koçak i noticed that being a artist takes more than skill, practice etc it also involves emotions/feelings and you will come to learn making thingsv. There will also be many comments that are negative but also positive one aboout you're artwork. It is all up to you to motive and one day prove themwrong or even yourself till you get better....in the end remember its always about having FUN nothing else
One of my art teachers told me to not be afraid to make bad art. Of course naturally, bad and good in art is subjective, but I think what he was getting at was to not beat yourself up if something is not up to your own standards, and just keep going. I guess that's my add-on.
+KanaTheStrange that was the big problem for me. Still is. But I'm trying to tell myself more that the next thing I draw won't be the last. If it turns out bad, who cares? You can always try again.
I didn't have any idea of what to draw and no motivation until I found you. I always tried to draw from memory, because I thought I had to. Now I draw every day, taking inspiration from artists such as kerby rosanes, and of course you! I'm getting better and better. Thank you!!☺💓
I've been stuck in a streak of apathy for a few weeks (I work at a depression clinic). Your video gave me the impetus to pick up my pencil again. Awesome.
Hahah... these tips are all so true. I have improved vastly in the last three years (since I entered highschool) and these tips were basically the backbone of my success, with my determination and love for art making up the skin and muscles. Between my freshman and sophomore year, I probably killed a few trees on my own, as I went through about six to eight sketchbooks (filled with very few gems in my opinion), probably three LARGE packets of copy paper, about four sets of good colored pencils, what must have been a full set of micros (a pack of twelve (I think? I got them in my sophomore year, so...)) and maybe a few dozen fine tipped sharpies, and numerous other supplies. None of my supplies came from Michaels (at least, not the ones I bought myself--I got a MASSIVE art kit from my mom's boyfriend for Christmas junior year--to which I have barely touched). Paintbrush does not make the painter. Personally my medium is colored pencil, with a dash of pen touches. I cannot grasp paint, I barely reach sufficient in pastels, and I have yet to use a copic, as much as I love watching videos with them. I am poor, but that did not stop me from practicing on any piece of paper I could reach (many of my explorative sketches were actually doodled in the edges of my homework). If you draw a picture you are extremely proud of, do not be afraid to admit that it may not be the best it COULD be, but never tell yourself that you suck, and NEVER tell yourself to quit. Art was my passion, the only thing that could keep my attention for more than an hour, and I started out terrible. I drew cats, and people thought they were dogs or foxes (and I LIVED WITH CATS), but now I can sketch the basic form of a cat in less than ten seconds, and I am able to draw a realistic cat anyone can recognize. Mark beings up very good points in this video, and I want to just add: To love your art, you need to truly love yourself and the person you are. Don't be afraid to find your flaws and try to fix them, but if you drag yourself down, you drag down the passion that goes into your art, and you will suffer because of it. I used to be very shy, but once I joined my local drama club, I became more confident, and therefore I became more confident in my art, and I improved exponentially afterword. Of course, the plethora of willing mannikens was nice, too. ;) Either way, as long as you keep trying and practicing, you will improve. It may be slow and annoying, but the change is there, give it time.
Kimberly Jade I have a similar thing. Well actually, I was too stubborn to realize there was a problem with ME until around the middle of 10th grade. Let me tell you, since then I was spending all my free time watching tutorials on anatomy and shading, and just last year during summer break, pretty much the only thing I was doing was drawing up random pictures specifically for the purpose of inking them. I occasionally upload my drawings to Google+, and I went from having an average of 10-15 likes per picture to over 50 per picture by the time I started 11th grade. It's not much lol, but it does show that I improved a lot during those few months, and I only regret not starting to work on my faults sooner, because who knows how much better I'd be by now. Tools really don't make the artist, I used to spend money on Microns and ask for expensive supplies, but even back in 9th grade when I tried inking with the expensive Microns instead of a ballpoint pen, my art still looked bad. As of now, I sometimes ink using a ballpoint pen and it doesn't look much different from if I inked with a Micron, with the exception of the fact that I'd be able to get different values and stuff and there might be a small smear or two from me accidentally rubbing my hand over ink. As for Copics, I'm also broke, but I'm starting small and buying like, one or two Copics at a time when they're on sale. I'm also saving up on the side for a set of 72 Ciaos- it's gonna take months though lol. Ebay has various "Copic lots" worth checking out - basically when someone is selling a bunch of random Copics. $20 can typically get you 5 or 6 in a lot, though if this is going to be your main way of getting Copics, I'd imagine you will end up with duplicates...
I know this is 4 years old but I’ve just watched it for the first time. Your passion & practice shows, loved watching this & I think the drawing is great 😊
Ive never taken an art class in my life and I recently just started getting into drawing and I just wanted to say that a this video really helped me out.
I remember back in high school, the best advice I was given was, "Draw what you see, not what you think you see." In context it made sense. We were drawing from photos of faces, so the pictures were supposed to look as much like the person we were drawing as possible and I held onto this advice for years and years. If I'm drawing something and I want it to look exactly the same, then I don't look at one part and think, "Well that looks weird", and change it. I draw it exact. It's really helped me improve even when drawing something from my own mind. I will use several different pieces of reference and combine what I like for the finished drawing, but if I want a certain part to look a just the same way, I am very careful to draw it as close to what the reference is as possible.
Thank you Mark. My 10 yr old daughter has had some of her art selected to be shown at the Governors Scool of Art in Greenville, SC.Her enthusiasm has reignighted mine. Now together, she and I are building memories that will last a lifetime and beyond.I really appreciate your videos on the psychological side of art and how to stay motivated. I only wish I would have had access to these videos 30 years ago.😀Thanks again for your time. Between you and Alfonso Dunn I may get the hang of this again but most importantly watching by baby continue to grow as an artist!
MrApotator Probably! I took one art class at a community college on digital art. The dude literally sat there and gave us prompts from the internet, then helped us navigate photoshop and illustrator if we asked a question. I learned that I can easily teach myself instead of wasting my money.
+markcrilley u r such an inspiring person...and I learn from u and I'm becoming a little artist bcuz im only 12...so keep the good work and never give up..😉😉😊😊😁😁😘😘😍😍💜💜💕💕💖💖
I loved the advice about not comparing your art to anyone else's. I find myself doing that quite often, without even meaning to. But I really liked the positiveness of number nine. I will try to keep that in mind.
THANK YOU for talking about looking at references. That makes me feel WAY better. Ive been trying to draw from memory and its been bringing me down but knowing its unrealistic for most artists helps tons! Also, Amadeus is one of my top 10 favorite movies lol
You sir, have made me the drawer I am today. When I just started drawing, I'll have to admit. They looked horrible! So I went online for some ways of getting betterAnd that's when it hit meI saw your drawings and all the things you did, how to draw videos, time lapse, ect. I was completely in love with how you drew manga and realistic drawings. And today, I work very hard to become a wonderful drawer like yourself! Also, my brother calls me a prodigy. Mainly because I have gotten SO much better in the past two years. I think you have helped me along the way with your videos. And for that, I thank you.
Welllll. I have to say... When I draw I think of the lines and how they angle instead of the shape it's supposed to take. (Again that was from Mark). Also. I turn the page a bit so I can go to the full extent of how I can curve or make my lines straight. Last but definitely not least PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE!!
Hmm. I don't really have anything to put them up on. I don't have Instagram. I don't have DeviantArt I would prefer not to use Facebook. So I can't really. Perhaps if you told me a place I could submit my art I would consider it :)
Tip #1 Always listen to soothing music while drawing, and practice daily. I suggest this for people that want to draw, but you will progress if drawing is your narural talent. I was supposed to paint because painting has been in my family's blood for generations, but I decided to draw. My famous mexican relative Jose Clemente Orozco.
+markcrilley the problem is if you do the wrong journey... im still indecisive between art and science. I'd love to make ny own manga, but I dont have time now and if I gat a job that isnt just being an artist I wont gave time too.
+Magda Fachada there is always time to learn something new. even if you have a job, it doesn't stop you from having a hobby. being an artist doesn't have to be full time.
why not do both?there are a lot of different things in art and science that go hand in hand.there is so many possibilities with the 2 together.paleo art,the study of how art effects the mind and so much more. also what kind of science do you like? my favorites are anything to do with planets and animals.
+ninjaruss But I'm afraid I wont have time enough to dedicate myself to art... My parents, for example, arrive home pretty late, they would barely have time to draw one simple drawing if they wanted to... +star and fox I like a lot of things related to science... too much, I must say. Genetics, medicine, psycology, mysteries of the brain, physics... I like everything that isn't completely investigated yet. Basically most of science... The thing is, what if, with a job like that, I have no time to draw?
For some reason, I think of them as completely different drawings. Cause when its colored it gives it a colorful look. While on the other hand - when its not colored it looks like its supposed to be that way. My mind is so strange gahh--
My sister likes to put me down by telling me 'Oh no, her neck is too long' 'It looks like a horse/dog' 'the legs are too long' sometimes it kind of helps, sometimes I just want to shove her pessimistic head down the drain. She puts me down, but I still try. Also, I've recently tried making anime characters...so far...I can only do Heads, necks, and shoulders. Bodies are hard, especially hands.
Thank you :) She just decides to come over while I'm drawing and just start criticizing it. While when she is drawing, her wolves look like cats, and her cats look like foxes. She's rather rude.
That must suck, when you will probably have a harder time getting better if she criticizes it. You know what, if she says something like that, just think 'is there something I dislike about this?' If there is, it's either some small nit picky thing that is just you being rude to yourself, or there's something you can improve. Don't think 'Hey this sucks I need to change it', just experiment! ...What am I saying, I'm not some kind of expert.
Thank you so much for this video. I have been in a stump over the years with my style of work. Was never satisfied with my work, and sadly I always compared it to others who looked much better than mine. One month before I head back to school, going four my bachelors in digital animation, and I was looking at old artwork, both good and very ugly, and I told myself that I needed help. So I searched on TH-cam to see what other artist were doing to help themselves get out of the constant stump of being stuck. I had pass by a few of your other videos and they have been very helpful as well. Again thank you for being an encouragement to other artist, and keep up the good work.
What make your drawing better isn’t in the quality of your tools and pencils but in the creativity and patience of yours, combining with hard work. Remember: Hard work beat Talent.
Gosh I was watching this video, when I finally realized that I had your book! I was thinking "mark crilley... this name remind me of something..." But it's only when you talked about perspective and your book that realized 😂 Of course I'm french so I have the french version of it but I like it very much!
Gosh, I'm Belgian, so I Speak french, but when I read "Merci beaucoup" written by somebody who I know speak English, I just pronounce it "Mewci boucouuu"...
Whenever I pick up a pencil and my drawing notebook I go on my computer and google an anime image i want to draw, I start drawing and my drawing dosent look like the one im seeing, I feel like i cant draw anymore I cant even draw anymore. I wish i can draw using my mind ive been depressed lately i feel like i lost my drawing talent im trying to believe in myself but i cant do it.. my notebbok is filled with unfinished and ugly drawings... Im trying to pick myself up.
EpicGamer You can always take a short break, maybe 2 to 3 days from drawing, and then when you feel like your ready to start drawing again go ahead. This works for me most of the time. Also when creating your artwork try doing something different from the last time you created a drawing. In other words, challenge yourself to do something different in your drawing. Also practice in areas your not so good at and over time you'll see improvement.
you will get real good eventualy, when you keep going drawing the image you are viewing you may not like it, but the more you draw you eventually realize hey i Drew that guys hair exactly even tho the rest is weird but you draw more and more and you get better with piece by piece by piece till you can mimick it, and stay strong man im terrible right now i got the eyes down but the rest of the drawings of characters bodies are lopsided and strange, so im working at this too, like Mark crilley says, it took him years
Everyone feels like this once in a while and it will happen many times more. Just know that you aren't the first nor will you be the last to experience this. What I found very useful for me is to use my drawing time as self help time. Time to allow me to catch up to myself. Sometimes the routine of life can rush us along without allowing us to breathe. So I suggest you put on some head phones, listen to some native american flute music and running streams and bird sounds. Keep the sound and music on, take a deep breath and just be conscious that your drawing will become just what you will it to become. I think the main problem right now is that you are depressed and therefore being too hard on yourself, you are expecting something and this may be the very cause of your depression. Do not expect and be grateful for what you receive. Depression sucks hombre, but you'll get out of it. Imagine depression as a pile of dirt over a seed. It will nurture you and test you at the same time, but one day you will rupture through it and become something grand. Stay up and know that there are many of us out there that are here for you.
Mark, You have helped me get back into drawing after losing interest because I felt my drawing ability was not up to par with others at my age range. I saw others draw amazing masterpieces and all I could draw was a very poor copy of a zombie. Because of you, I have felt more confident in my drawings. Thank you.
;-; My problem is, and I know it's stupid, but I absolutely dislike copying others works............................. I'm really bad at backgrounds and other things, but I guess I just need to try and force myself to try better! I really want to try creating a manga at least once! Although I don't really have enough money to pay for good supplies............. Oh well! Your work is always so beautiful~ I'm envious! Good job~!
I don't like copying others work line for line either. When I started manga drawings, I used to take the base and then change it up, experiment with hair and eyes and stuff. Maybe that could work for you too?
The 6th tip I definitely do, for example you use white gouache (idk how to spell it) while I prefer to use Sakura jelly rolls, you use a black prismacolor while I use fineliners and brush pens, you tend to work in graphite while I prefer colored lead, fineliners, watercolor, colored pencils, and markers, everyone has their own medium and shouldn't try to use exactly what other artists use, find what works for you
+Minty “Candy” CandyArts when I manage to draw something I'm proud of I don't stop drawing for days after because I know that it is only a matter of time before I am back to committing horrible crimes against art
thank you so much for this video dude. I found more than a few tips super helpful. its helped given me a new perspective on how to approach my work. please make more videos like this. you have earned my subscription. love your content
I've recently bought your one art book for manga, and being able to reference how you do the hair has seriously helped me. Thank you so much for your help! Also I love Brody's ghost, but I can't find the series anymore. I was only able to get the first book, and I've been searching for the second book for years and the suspense is killing me!!
Tip #11 : Look at your old art in order to motivate yourself to improve
+zaule MLP Drawings that are about a month old will do as well
+zaule MLP Then carry on at it 😉
+zaule MLP Definitely !!
#12: Look at your old art and FUCKING CRINGE
Azumongo thanks
Thanks
You're my hero
I'd also like to add: observe other people drawing, specifically their hand-movements and the way they hold the pencil.
thanks but I'll keep watching the video to see how his drawing is in the end
btw this is part of my study B)

Kin thanks I was having a hard time skipping to 9
+Forever Killjoy Sorry but MCR YES
also thank you +Kin
Thnx
+Kin *thanks m8*
As someone not familiar with his drawings, I was absolutely floored by the effect of the white gouache highlights. The mask looks incredibly 3D and metallic.
Me too, I thought that the thumbnail had an actual mask and not a piece of art
Me too, my face lit up I was amazed at how it went to looking more realistic
you've been my art teacher for years and many more to come.
Thank you so much!
+markcrilley Hello. I was wondering if you could do a video on any different art styles? I would like to learn different styles then I already know.
+markcrilley can you do something for beginners? like something where we draw the same picture and you show us how? I'm very bad XD x3
*mom walks into kitchen and sees me eating turnips*
mom: What are you doing!?
me: MARK CRILLEY SAID I MUST EAT TURNIPS TO ACHIEVE MY DREAMS!!!
Rachel West Why would she be mad about you eating turnips?
Sambou Jaiteh 1) the mom never said she was mad. 2) if she was mad, it's because you're randomly eating it for drawing skills
Lmao
🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️
mum when she hears it's youtube : makes you draw sausages
I'LL START EATING TURNIPS... THANKS MARK.
+Teira Kawaiidesu hhhhh😂😂😂😂
lol
Me too I am starting. To eat turnups too 🙂

the greatest teacher i ever had said (during my first drawing class, in my first year in art school): "a lot of people say they can't draw. i'm not going to teach you how to draw, i'm going to teach you how to see".
he was referring to showing us how to develop the sight to understand the physical relationships between objects in space as well as the physical characteristics of objects themselves, ie how do lines associate with each other to describe a shape, or articulate distance?
your statement that we are not drawing a tree, but are drawing shapes is comparable with the advice of my drawing prof. thanks for the insight :)
I cant believe I completely forgot about marks channel. he was the one that encouraged me to continue doing art and I have now rediscovered his channel after years of neglect of not watching his content. time for a binge I think!
Thank you for coming back to watch my videos, Lauren :)
i wish i draw manga/anime as good as other people... i try and don't do good...
DSGenesis 343 just keep trying
"If you're learning from someone who does not have a very professional look, you are probably going to pick up their bad habits." That was very well put. This is often enough an issue that never comes up upon asking an artist for advice. I've been having severe anxiety with my work. I asked an artist who had a 4 year art degree how my work could use improvement. Instead of constructive criticism, he told me that it looked like it was from DeviantArt. And that he would skim right past it on the site if he saw it. It actually hurt. I get that I'm an amateur but there needs to be more advice like yours. It gives me hope. Thank you.
+Gwendolyn Gotham Thank you Gwendolyn. Glad I can help!
I started drawing electronically on my pc. Drawing on paper is more fun, but for pc its more convenient, and erasing it way easier. Transitioning will take most people weeks to get used to by the way.
It's best to get good at traditional art, before digital, but it all boils down to preference, and I've yet to try digital
+Z Adel I try to do rough sketches on paper then scan them in to refine.
+Hiroshi T same
I started drawing on ipad and i loved it but i feel like i really need more styles cuz i keep redoing my work:(
+Z Adel What do you use to draw on the pc? I have a hp computer
does mark know how many artists have actually started drawing because of him?? does he know that he's the underlying reason why so many artists today are flourishing? the role he has played in every ones life is different yes, but for many people he was the one who turned on the switch not true? does he _know_
You're too kind! I feel very lucky to have had the chance to help people here on TH-cam; it's a privilege really
@@markcrilley you were the reason I started to try to animate lol
markcrilley I just recently had a desire to start drawing again and I’ve been following your tutorials to get better and make my own master peice
Um, no one inspired me to be an artist. I naturally became one.. I was actually chosen to be one
whenever I look back at my old art I can't believe how much I've improved with my art.
I think in a few years I will be able to draw realistic things.I am only ten and my drawings already almost look realistic.when I was seven I drew two realistic pictures:a cat and a dog.
+UNICORN QUEEN that's wonderful :) I'm 18 and I do have a lot of experience with art, but I'm so bad at drawing. So I will practise more :)
I know same when I look at my drawings from last year I cringe so much
Oh my gosh me too cx
UNICORN QUEEN opposite for me 😥😥😥
I finally treated myself to "Mastering Manga" a while back, and honestly it has helped so much with the technicalities of manga styling! This video rings true in so many ways, it's great that you are able to reach so many people especially who might not have supportive art teachers. I haven't been in an art class for 7 years now (jeez I'm getting old D:) but I was blessed with an incredibly encouraging teacher, and I'm eternally grateful. Thank you for being that person for some people ^_^
+Rebecca Hart Thank you Rebecca for your kind words; it means a lot :)
+Sebastian Lara Thank you so much!
Thank you!!
+Zero Bielé same here! :D
TheKings Minion :D Yay! It feels so good to draw, and to be confident in it!
Zero Bielé Yup!
♥
I'm 71 and I love to draw, and you would think I've been drawing for years, but not true. I went through chemo twice in my life and I have forgotten things like drawing. So now I'm a practicing Newby and I like what you draw. My husband is an artist and he can make up cartoons off the top of his head.
I am a violinist...oh my gosh the connections
Learning the violin is very hard, but dedication and my love for it helped me get good
Thanks for the art tips.
They'll help me a ton!
I'm a violinist cool
I want to be a violinist, and an artist. In my opinion, my drawings suck XD
I can relate alot I play violin also
I'm a cellist... #lonewolf
Thank you! I'm honored :)
I have a hundred channels , 'll surely do the honor . I cant thank mr Mark for his impeccable efforts . Watching him since 2014
Mark pin this also yea great advice im going to try it iut!
Art by Galen make 100 accounts...

+MoogieSRO Thank you for your kind and supportive words. Honestly I feel lucky I've been given this opportunity to help people.
Can you show us how to draw Asuna from SAO?
Thank you, glad I could help :)

LOOOK AT THAT CUUUUTEEEE SQUID!
Haha, thanks! :)
+bluenalu7 someday senpai squid will notice it.
Mr. Crilley, have you ever thought of redrawing one of your old drawings from high school? I'd like to see a comparison, y' know, to see how much you've improved since then?
That would be a really good idea
Yes! Draw this again challenge. I love watching those videos.
+Muffin Kitty great idea!
I would love y to see that
Yes!!
To add:
1) Set a timer when you're working on a project.
Forgot the biggest one
4) Learn how to draw volumes--learn how to convey the third dimension on flat paper. Probably the hardest drawing skill to grasp. I've found it's about 85% of drawing--at least for me.
+BAwesomeDesign Thanks for the advice
One of the things I do is hold the paper up to a light source (the brighter the better), and look at the drawing "backwards"- if things that look alright the normal way don't look good the other way, I'll know if and how to change it.
I know I look like an idiot when I do it but it helps me so whatever.
Do you think I should learn how to draw a straight line first?
Whenever I need a line to be really straight, I use a ruler. I don't feel that the ability to draw perfectly straight lines is a prerequisite for being a good or even great artist.
Why doesn't this have more likes
I can't even use a ruler properly
JTor Gaming omg same LOL
Chopperman love your profile pic
just love, the way he express his self as well show his ideal of how he protrudes art, in such away to bring to life. great job mark
Thank you Jonathan :)
I think my art isn't that bad when it's a rough sketch, but I find myself completely ruining the drawing when I try to add shade to it
Same omg..
Same xD
It's the other way for me lol
me too
Same 😐
The last tip hit me hard.
Thank you so much for coming back to watch my videos again! I'm honored by your kind words :)
really!!!!!! yu quit drawing coz of dat shiiit,
I subscribed when the person who has been teaching me, how to draw for a little over a year, suggested I watch your videos. I love this particular drawing, with the help of my teacher, your videos, and many others I hope to accomplish my goals.# 9 is one of the most important parts, when it comes to drawing. patience, and practice is the key !
I like this man this is good man
A.R.M.Y?💗
Army are everywhere!😂🙌🏻
👌

+Tavros Nitram TaV, iS tHaT yOu?
Its so satisfying watching him draw.
Thank you ^^
Everything you say is so true.I am 16 and so frustrated with my drawings.
I feel like my drawings are inferior to others.
My drawings are black and white, but with all your advice i am sure i will improve😄😄
Thank you
your mask looks amazing btw😃
really good advices! (and also, that mask looks AMAZING, it ooks like an actual metalic mask placed over the drawing!)
Morgana Le´Fay
thats the most magnificent part about it...
I appreciate this video for two things at once: appreciating his sound advice while learning from his drawing techniques. Amazingly done!
+Shiro Narukami Just keep it B&W. Color almost always ruins stuff if done and used wrong.
um i draw in hand and colour in pc
By hand for me
+Shiro Narukami depends how you prefer it. both of those media look amazing in there own way. both have flaws. and both are fun to do. thought i use tradisoal to get ideas out on paper. and polish the ideas on digital. thought somethings sometimes look better tradisoal or digital.
Lol same. My tigers just don't compare :D
I completely agree with u! T^T
I am loving the art style you have going on in this piece, Crilley. I'm excited for this future project of yours!
+Rebecca Walilko Thank you Rebecca ^^
+markcrilley can u do a how to draw a male chibi with full body
I've been an artist as long as I can remember and I'm 55. I agree with you totally when you say putting pencil to paper is the one thing you would always rather be doing. And in my humble opinion, all 10 of your suggestions were spot on.
I found your channel today and I just have to say, you have such a beautiful and humble soul. At one point I just smiled because of how kind you are, and its refreshing. Especially to a stay at home mom who is trying to make it in this big wide world of art. I thank you for that. Of course, subscribed.
+Amber Ingargiola Thank you so much, Amber. :)
Haha, I have caught myself watching your videos a several times now, not necessarily because of the subject, but rather because I can relax by watching you draw :D However these videos also help me find new perspective as an artist, so thank you!
Thank you Roosa :)
Mark thank you. This video opened my eyes on how I should approach drawing and really boosted my confidence to a new level. Drawing is really something I love and you made me appreciate my art more.
Sincerely thank you.
+Nickolas Gargallator Thank you Nickolas!
+Mukawa yep, exactly
I agree. Gesture drawing is really important
"You probably already heard this from your art teacher"
Wow
Just wow
MY art teachers just come up to me, say "this is wrong, so is this. fix it" and just fly away for half a hour 8'D
+Loutaku 100% of the time my art teacher would say it's good XD
+Loutaku When I ask my art teacher for his thoughts he kind of just looks at my drawing and walks away... WHAT DO I DOOO
+Peter Frypan I suppose it depends on everyone's experience, as for me, I have learned a lot from my teachers, and from people online.
I find real-time art videos really reassuring because they show that other people actually draw at the same rate as me
So true
I have now been eating turnips everyday for over a year and I must admit it really helped me. Many thanks for the great magical tip!
I can draw just have trouble making my own characters or thinking up
Same :(. I think we just need a vivid imagination.
+xSN4K3x_5KULL COD well that's what acid is for
+xSN4K3x_5KULL COD what you probably lack is inspiration.... you can hardly make any good ideas without it...
i can relate so much
look at other people's artwork and maybe use their ideas to create a similar style or image.
Just started drawing 3 days ago. Definitely helps to draw every day.
One tip I would add is study your own work. I like to look at the things that make me feel like "this is a good drawing" and vice versa. I try to replicate the good parts and edit the issues in future works.
Thanks for another great and helpful video! The drawing your filling in looks A-mazing!
Thank you Kaya :)
Your welcome!
I always felt like I was not an artist because I couldn't draw from memory. Your second point really hit home with me.
Omg that mask is beautiful. I love how the brows and nose bridge stand out and how the mask is shapely.
a big THANK YOU! especially for advice #10 !!!
I used to draw a lot when I was at school and only started again about a year ago. I constantly fight the urge to give it up again when I see how crude my stuff turns out compared to that of other artists and even to my own older stuff. I guess I need more patience.
Instantly subscribed.
Thank you!
+markcrilley Quick question, Do you do speed drawings of anime characters? I mean, either way I'll stay and enjoy your vids, but I just wanted to ask.
Try my time-lapse videos; more than 120 of them, many anime related: th-cam.com/play/PL34D7E497CFD46578.html
+markcrilley Thx!
Same. After 2 minutes
Hope I can be loyal this time ;)
+DucoTheTactician Thank you so much-- so glad to have you back!
+markcrilley MARK!! I have a challenge for you! draw Big Boss from the Metal Gear Solid series as a manga character! :D
+Tunahan Koçak Just be confident, pal. We all gotta begin somewhere!
+KanaTheStrange I couldn't agree more.
+KanaTheStrange that was the big problem for me. Still is. But I'm trying to tell myself more that the next thing I draw won't be the last. If it turns out bad, who cares? You can always try again.
+partEc4nnon thats so freaking true!!!
I didn't have any idea of what to draw and no motivation until I found you. I always tried to draw from memory, because I thought I had to. Now I draw every day, taking inspiration from artists such as kerby rosanes, and of course you! I'm getting better and better.
Thank you!!☺💓
Very glad I could help!
I've been stuck in a streak of apathy for a few weeks (I work at a depression clinic). Your video gave me the impetus to pick up my pencil again. Awesome.
Tip 12: Patience Obviously
What was tip 11? ;)
markcrilley tip 11: breakdown things ;)
Hahah... these tips are all so true.
Of course, the plethora of willing mannikens was nice, too. ;)
Either way, as long as you keep trying and practicing, you will improve. It may be slow and annoying, but the change is there, give it time.
Thank you for your kind words, and for the time and care you put into these comments.
This was literally the first video I saw on this channel and I am already amazed
Thank you Lucy!
yeah me too i subbed by this video
Thank you Mark. My 10 yr old daughter has had some of her art selected to be shown at the Governors Scool of Art in Greenville, SC.Her enthusiasm has reignighted mine. Now together, she and I are building memories that will last a lifetime and beyond.I really appreciate your videos on the psychological side of art and how to stay motivated. I only wish I would have had access to these videos 30 years ago.😀Thanks again for your time. Between you and Alfonso Dunn I may get the hang of this again but most importantly watching by baby continue to grow as an artist!
Great advise and tips Mark for someone like me who is just starting to take my beginning art to the next level! I really enjoyed this :)
Thank you Deidre!
this video did more for me than the 2 year's of art classes i took in college lol
Did it really? Wow. Not being sarcastic btw.
MrApotator Probably! I took one art class at a community college on digital art. The dude literally sat there and gave us prompts from the internet, then helped us navigate photoshop and illustrator if we asked a question. I learned that I can easily teach myself instead of wasting my money.
Oh good i’m not the only one who feels like they waisted there time in High School Art class 😆
this guy is a true inspiration!!!! I watch your videos and get better every time
Thank you
+markcrilley u r such an inspiring person...and I learn from u and I'm becoming a little artist bcuz im only 12...so keep the good work and never give up..😉😉😊😊😁😁😘😘😍😍💜💜💕💕💖💖
+Emily Marin I know right this guy is so cool he is making me a16 year old artist
+Link Xl yea!..I hope I could meet him one day...probably u too..for luck..😁😁😊😊💜💜
I loved the advice about not comparing your art to anyone else's. I find myself doing that quite often, without even meaning to. But I really liked the positiveness of number nine. I will try to keep that in mind.
haven't been here in a long time but good to be back

Meeeeeeee😂😂
Artist* not drawer
+Riwin Really? Can I see your art man
Can I see your drawings final fantasy
My famous mexican relative Jose Clemente Orozco.
he says it requires decades... i haven't even lived decades ;-;
+Djcat Meow (Djcat472) Exactly my point: you're at the beginning of a journey, one that continues for many years.
I've been drawing for ten years and you always get better every day.
i really loved this advice, and it got me into drawing again. I really appreciate your open minded approach to art, it's cool
I always think my drawings are better before I ink/color it...
SAME
Totally agreed
For some reason, I think of them as completely different drawings. Cause when its colored it gives it a colorful look. While on the other hand - when its not colored it looks like its supposed to be that way.
My mind is so strange gahh--
Uhh..You could photocopy that drawing and ink/color ONLY that copy. Soo..uh..you can..ya know, have multiple copies.
Same... I think my sketches look better...
I just usually spit back at her 'then don't look at it ya little (Colourful word)'
Yeah, sometimes. It's also bad when I think of something in my head and it doesn't come out right on paper. Then it hits straight through
keep going take the criticism in stride take it as constructive criticism and be and artist not a drawer wtf is a drawer but a box in a nightstand
EAT TURNIPS! If you eat turnips you will be do perfectly in drawing.
No tomatoes that's what you need to eat
+Happy Cat can i drink ketchup instead
+Dylan W yes because I'm amazing at are and I love tomato ketchup
+Dylan W [UNDERTALE REFERENCE INTENSIFIES]
All you need is pasta~!
When you realize that the book you have is from the person you just started watching.
Your videos, and jazza's videos improved my drawing skills
What make your drawing better isn’t in the quality of your tools and pencils but in the creativity and patience of yours, combining with hard work.
Remember:
Hard work beat Talent.
Gosh I was watching this video, when I finally realized that I had your book! I was thinking "mark crilley... this name remind me of something..."
But it's only when you talked about perspective and your book that realized 😂
Of course I'm french so I have the french version of it but I like it very much!
+neru chan Merci beaucoup! ^_^
+markcrilley Still more French than I know...
+markcrilley wait.. YOU HAVE A BOOK!?
AMAZON HERE I COME
Gosh, I'm Belgian, so I Speak french, but when I read "Merci beaucoup" written by somebody who I know speak English, I just pronounce it "Mewci boucouuu"...
EpicGamer omg I was doing that right know
EpicGamer You can always take a short break, maybe 2 to 3 days from drawing, and then when you feel like your ready to start drawing again go ahead. This works for me most of the time. Also when creating your artwork try doing something different from the last time you created a drawing. In other words, challenge yourself to do something different in your drawing. Also practice in areas your not so good at and over time you'll see improvement.
you will get real good eventualy, when you keep going drawing the image you are viewing you may not like it, but the more you draw you eventually realize hey i Drew that guys hair exactly even tho the rest is weird but you draw more and more and you get better with piece by piece by piece till you can mimick it, and stay strong man im terrible right now i got the eyes down but the rest of the drawings of characters bodies are lopsided and strange, so im working at this too, like Mark crilley says, it took him years
EpicGamer fell the same
Everyone feels like this once in a while and it will happen many times more.
My art teachers have taught me nothing this 10 tip video helped me so much
Thank you!
same, but not the first onek
*one
OMG LOVE YO PICTURE thats my tablet backround lel
Mark, You have helped me get back into drawing after losing interest because I felt my drawing ability was not up to par with others at my age range. I saw others draw amazing masterpieces and all I could draw was a very poor copy of a zombie.
Because of you, I have felt more confident in my drawings.
Thank you.
MARKY! I got your Manga Books.... I lost them in storage, but they helped when I had them. Thanks Mark!
Thank you so much!
is it weird that when you were drawing i was crying because it's so amazing
Luk4s Apps im not a guy xD but ok
Shinx 9o6 Let me guess.. you're watching this in the middle of the night?
Squidney The Squid i dont remember when I watched this lol
Shinx 9o6 same here,I was like saying my drawing sucks and was watching this video in shame
Yes.
Thank You, You gave me the inspiration I needed to start drawing again...
Glad I could help!
Drawing is a craft and skill. Patience and diligence is key. I am 26 and I have been improving on my art by putting my emotions on paper.
;-; My problem is, and I know it's stupid, but I absolutely dislike copying others works.............................
You don't have to copy an artist, but you can still experiment with their styles. Maybe that might help for you.
Same here (._.)/
m_miriam _m Awwww we're in the same boat~ Boat buddies :D
Iwamoto Yuri XxCatxX Thanks for the advice~ I really appreciate it!
The 6th tip I definitely do, for example you use white gouache (idk how to spell it) while I prefer to use Sakura jelly rolls, you use a black prismacolor while I use fineliners and brush pens, you tend to work in graphite while I prefer colored lead, fineliners, watercolor, colored pencils, and markers, everyone has their own medium and shouldn't try to use exactly what other artists use, find what works for you
I think I'm okay at drawing but I draw good one day then another day I draw oddly.
I have the same one day my drawings are great and the other day it's just horrible.
I can relate to that :|
same, one day i can draw realistic portrait, second i draw like a 2 year old :/
Me, you described me
+Minty “Candy” CandyArts when I manage to draw something I'm proud of I don't stop drawing for days after because I know that it is only a matter of time before I am back to committing horrible crimes against art
thank you so much for this video dude. I found more than a few tips super helpful. its helped given me a new perspective on how to approach my work. please make more videos like this. you have earned my subscription. love your content
Thanks for this video, it had a lot of things that I had never thought of before, and it was very helpful
Thank you Arik!
markcrilley Sure
I've recently bought your one art book for manga, and being able to reference how you do the hair has seriously helped me. Thank you so much for your help! Also I love Brody's ghost, but I can't find the series anymore. I was only able to get the first book, and I've been searching for the second book for years and the suspense is killing me!!
Thank you for your support, Stacie!
I REALY like the way you're voice sounds
Great advice. It brought home to my mind so many things I have learned from teachers and put words to
the things I found out for myself
