  • Polish Saber fighting style is getting more and more complete (but still not finished!).
    Hellish Quart is a historical fighting game about sword dueling, in which the blades really clash using physics, and the characters use motion captured fencing techniques. Play as one of many 17th century warriors and use sabers, rapiers, broadswords and many other blades in single player campaign, arcade, or local multiplayer with friends.

    Turks, Landsknetchs and Spanish Verdadera Destreza duelists would be beyond awesome.
    Highly recommend the movie Alatriste for inspiration.

    The crosscut is an older technique therefore it makes sense that Gideon, being the oldest fencer, uses it. Can't wait for the game to finally release

    Saber animation looks very refined and interacting really well. I love it. Can't wait to see the processed longsword!

      There better be Schielhau and Zwerchhau! (falseedge with thumbgrip) >:( And a thumb grip only mode, they are planar (2D) instead of hammer grip conical (3D) movements.
      A hew from the right in normal grip overstrains the wrist inside if done high enough to protect the head. And on the left kinks the wrist.
      In thumbgrip falseedge for right to left Schielhew/Zwerchhew and trueedge for left to right Zwerchhew can be fone verry stable and faster. With arms at forehead level.
      Oberhau and Unterhau are for peasents.

      @@michailtavonius3360 Mordhau is stupid, and the game is about unarmored dueling.
      Also fiore is short, basic, uncomplete, and lacks detailed counterplays.
      German KDF spans hundrets of years with many masters and books, and later entire large schools and a tournaments scene (fechtschule). It has detailed counterplays to every counter of the opponent. And is geometrically superior like thumbgrip Schielhau. Using hammergrip is for peasants, thumbgrip is the real deal and results in superior geometry.
      Fiore is totally ok, but is lacking a LOT.

      @@Kubold would be nice to have color customization for set outfits but given how the outfits are rendered with the irl photos not sure if it is easy or possible to change those colors that comprise the outfit. Thanks for all your hard work.

    The level of quality and detail of this game is easily comparible with that of AAA titles. Kubuld has done increible work in bringing to life historical fencing in a way to looks as exhilirating as it is accurate. Take my money!!!! I cant wait for the EA 🤑🙏😁

    awesome, I just hope that in game at 2:39 it wont automatically skip that epic death animation
    also the wait for current animation to finish before starting death reaction one is a bit weird :D, it'd be nice if it started happening almost immediately after death animation starts, cause their reactions seems impulsive so it feels like they have 500 ms ping in brain before they understood they injured/killed someone

    Will the injuries affect the way you fight and the way these animations play out? It would be a really cool feature but i see how it would be quite hard to implement.

      Yes, the walking and attacking animations change when tired, injured etc. It will be fine tuned, but everything is there.

      @ABRAR MUKARRAM SETIAWAN 1 Severe injury finishes the round, but light flesh wounds don't. Basically, they fight until one of them can't, or doesn't want to anymore / surrenders.

    Can't fugure out how to play Gideon. Yes, "switch stance hits" seems fairly fast and very lethal, but too short. Quick thrust from "hanging guard" (spacebar+second attack) seems to be most effective. Anyway, demo looks very promising. Look forward for early access and whole game.

      Yeah I struggle with gideon alot as he's so easily snipped and the combos don't seem to land well without taking a hit

      As a one man studio you are doing a fantastic job of getting me really interested. Fighting games are my fave genre and this looks so different and fresh. Would love an online experience but understand this could be hard to pull off well. GGPO integration maybe? Hopefully this game builds a thriving community and can be fine tuned for years to come

    Hey Kubold, I'm sure you can get donations and with donations expand the dev team; heck, there would be volunteers soon as well. I want to assure you that the scope of the game doesn't have to be as narrow as you think, since there is manpower to be had, not just you.

      We thought about Kickstarter, Indiegogo, various Publishers since the beginning, but ultimately we decided to not take the money. We have enough savings to safely bring the minimum viable product to finish line, even if Early Access participation will be way below expectations. But we really hope enough people will take part in Early Access to fund stuff like outsourcing the arenas modelling, music tracks, voice overs, menus etc., so we can focus on making gameplay and characters.

      Not clear yet. I have at least few ideas how shields would work, but this would add an entire new level of complexity. And I really need to watch out on scope creep if I want to finish the game.

      @@Kubold It would be cool, but why not leave something for a second part/ DLC/ addon? That way you are sure to stay away from the - rightfully - dreaded scope creep AND you don't feel like you are leaving out awesome features. The addon is your friend :- )
