      Soto Colo I know! It's so annoying. If hundreds of people have done it, it's possible for all of us. You just need the right conditions set up to get there, and that's it you're good to go :)

    Holy - so good to know most top kids DON'T go to class. I'm a 3rd year med student in Australia and have NEVER gone to a non-mandatory class and have consistently been top of class for last 2 years. It is much more efficient use of your time to just study yourself. Keep it up bro!

    Thanks for this video! It’s so refreshing to hear someone optimistic! I’m still a premed and it’s so disheartening when your pushing and struggling mid semester but you have deeply rooted reasons and passions for why you feel called to medicine that far surpasses the financial aspect and all around you everyone is telling you “don’t do it. Just become a CRNA. Medical school is so hard you won’t be able to have a family or blah blah blah.” So when you are struggling and all you are hearing is everyone telling you you are nuts and wasting your time, it’s easy to have a tiny voice in the back of your head make you question if you are right or if they are just negative because my reasons aren’t theirs.
    So I’ve just kept pushing on and working hard because their negativity has not changed my convictions of why I want this so bad but it’s still nice to finally see someone say something remotely positive! I really appreciate the time you put into this! It’s the first video I’ve seen of yours and I am looking foreword to watching mor of your content over winter break. Thanks again! 🤓👊🏻

    I completely agree with what you said. Hard things are still doable; the most intimidating thing is when someone tells you that something is “too hard.” I’m a freshman in highschool, and they opened up AP classes for us to take. I decided to take one, as well as honors chemistry and geometry, and a gifted language arts class. Although my teachers vehemently discouraged me not to take it, I did and it was absolutely doable as long as I managed my time. Thank you for the video!

    finally, a video with quality insight and advice. I like how this video focuses on what medical school is right for a person and how that person can grow in the program instead of making a youtube viewer feel incompetent or doubtful of their abilities to become a doctor. 10/10 video! Thanks for posting.

  • @Emily-im1hu
    @Emily-im1hu 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Thank you so much for this video. Your mentality about life "I can do it, even if people tell me it's hard" is something I wish I had a lot earlier. All throughout high school my counselors/my parents would tell me taking too many AP classes/doing that extra thing was too hard, and I would believe them and second-guess myself. I admire your hard work, belief in yourself, and your ambitions!

      Damn, dude, it might be dangerous for you to be a doctor. You can't even focus during a conversation---and you're going to have people's health in your hands? You can't even defend what a doctor does, just say "I love doing it." YOU are what's wrong with medicine today, becoming a doctor with absolutely no idea of why you're even doing it. Goddam.

    Thank you! I needed this inspiration so bad! I quit studying recently for the mcat because I thought if I didn’t do well and get in this cycle I would give up. I’m 28 so I feel super old. I want to do preventative medicine and I’m afraid I won’t be able to use nutrition therapy like I want to. I’m super into Buddhism so that is dictating how I feel. As far as wanting to live a simple life. I definitely think I can handle it and would rather study and learn new things than have a family. But I also want to travel most of my life and I feel like with this video I’ve realized that “having a life” and traveling is possible. Coming from someone who has self esteem issues and never considered myself good enough to become a doctor, thank you!

  • @farfromgrace3146

    This couldn’t be more true. Wish I could’ve heard this advice back when I was in high school and college. Thanks for the video! I hope it inspires others to pursue medicine/ tougher challenges in life ♥️. Before I entered my vet school, I was extremely fearful of having to give up on some personal things in my life but after completing my first year, I realized I didn’t have to. People are always trying to scare you but you just have to believe in yourself and your capabilities.

    I’m a senior right now and ever since I started high school and got exposed to the medical field through my health science clinical classes, It always encouraged me more to become a doctor. When I got stressed out i always doubted that I’d ever be a good doctor because I’ll never have time for me to be me. I felt like I didn’t believe in myself enough and this dream is going to always stay a dream. This vid helped me realize that everything is possible and I shouldn’t doubt myself just yet. Thank you so much :)

    Family Pratice is an underappreciated job for all the time and hard work put into it. You may not be using all the skills and knowledge you've acquired often but seeing families respect/admiration for you is rewarding.

    Thank you for making this video it really helped clarify and confirm the advice I have heard from doctors as advice on going into the medical field. I agree with your point about if you push your self you will be able to do it. I have had a lot of people say that as a junior in high school that I cannot handle being a competitive athlete and be in a two-year program of college classes plus high school, AP classes, IB classes, and honors classes. Your point is exactly right people can handle it if they try hard enough and have enough determination I have been able to. Thank you for the advice!

    It was hilarious when you talked about going to class. Professors at my school always complain about us not going to lecture. Literally 6 people out of 70 will show up.
    But yeah I agree, you don't necessarily have to put your entire life on hold for 4 years but as with everything, there are priorities. Sometimes you have to choose your career, your future, etc over that wedding, party or family event. Such is life. *shrugs*

      Angelica Soto referring to non white people as people of colour suggests that white people have no colour so your obviously a racist

      Angelica Soto I’m not even white haha and it’s these labels that widen the racial tensions even more

    Well said, I try to to never complain or joke like others saying that I should have done something else regardless of having only four hours of sleep during the week, being scolded by my professors who are obviously doctors, and sometimes sleeping for only 30 min throughout the years... haha its all about discipline once your in and staying motivated.

      music actually was a huge factor for me, that just kept me going, other than that just the pressure to learn the material. you actually will want to learn just like you'd want to master hitting those notes if you're a singer practicing for a performance.

    Man I remember in my undergrad when I switched programs things didn't workout properly, I wasn't able to take classes the way I wanted to since there was no room so I had to take like 4 electives and 1 core class, so I was left with taking like 5 core classes in the semesters after that. People kept saying there's no way I could handle it, but once I did it they didn't say anything else lol. My advisor at first didn't recommend it, he said I could if I wanted to but he said it'd be hard etc, but then my final semester he encouraged me to lmao.

    it's hard to take the profession srsly anymore since they changed the residency requirements from 80 hrs a wk to 40 hrs a week. Now it's a party profession and party school just like law & the law school where they have 1 exam a yr/semester for the entire class... althought it's practically ur grade. but still -- hard to find any MD that studies or knows their stuff ...

      YourStudyMate u don't need to "give up ur whole life" it's about time management stop over exaggerating

    • @ADK117
      @ADK117 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      YourStudyMate I can agree with you that during residency, significant sacrifices must be made. Once you are an attending however, in general you can craft the life you want based on location, hours, pay, etc..

    • @ADK117
      @ADK117 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      YourStudyMate Also I can guarantee that to be a successful entrepreneur, you have to work just as hard as a resident if not harder. Even then, an entrepreneur is not secured a significant salary at the end and the company can fail at time.

    Oh my gosh I really wish my classes weren't mandatory😭 ALL of my classes, even freakin lectures with audiobook professors are mandatory and it makes my life MISERABLE. I have no time for anything and days with classes from 8-8 is just so impractical cause I have time to eat in between and by the time I get home, I'm dead on my bed☹️

    why is there an updated version of USMLE each year as well as the Kaplan MCAT? does the material change drastically? and same question goes to the Fundamentals of Pathology book. I'm really curious to know if I can study any of these if it was a later year like 2015, 16, or 17. Thank you by the way for all the great videos!
