CHICAGO/ THE WINDY CITY/ CHI-TOWN
Located on the shores of freshwater Lake Michigan, Chicago was incorporated as a city in 1837 near a portage between the Great Lakes and the Mississippi River watershed and grew rapidly in the mid-19th century. After the Chicago Fire of 1871, which left more than 100,000 homeless, the city made a concerted effort to rebuild. The construction boom accelerated population growth throughout the following decades, and by 1900 Chicago was the fifth-largest city in the world. Chicago made noted contributions to urban planning and zoning standards, including new construction styles (including the Chicago School of architecture), the development of the City Beautiful Movement, and the steel-framed skyscraper.
Chicago is an international hub for finance, culture, commerce, industry, technology, telecommunications, and transportation. It is the site of the creation of the first standardized futures contracts at the Chicago Board of Trade, which today is the largest and most diverse derivatives market globally, generating 20% of all volume in commodities and financial futures. O'Hare International Airport is one of the busiest airports in the world, and the region also has the largest number of U.S. highways and the greatest amount of railroad freight. In 2012, Chicago was listed as an alpha global city by the Globalization and World Cities Research Network, and it ranked seventh in the entire world in the 2017 Global Cities Index. The Chicago area has one of the highest gross domestic products (GDP) in the world, generating $680 billion in 2017. In addition, the city has one of the world's most diversified and balanced economies, not being dependent on anyone industry, with no single industry employing more than 14% of the workforce.
The city ranked first place in the 2018 Time Out City Life Index, a global quality of life survey of 15,000 people in 32 cities. The city is also home to several fortune 500 companies, the most notable being, Allstate, Boeing, Exelon, McDonald's, Quaker Oats, and United Airlines Holdings. Landmarks in the city include Millennium Park, Navy Pier, the Magnificent Mile, the Art Institute of Chicago, Museum Campus, the Willis (Sears) Tower, Grant Park (Chicago), the Museum of Science and Industry, and Lincoln Park Zoo. Chicago's culture includes the visual arts, literature, film, theater, comedy (especially improvisational comedy), food, and music, particularly jazz, blues, soul, hip-hop, gospel, and electronic dance music including house music. Of the area's many colleges and universities, the University of Chicago, Northwestern University, and the University of Illinois at Chicago are classified as "highest research" doctoral universities. Chicago has professional sports teams in each of the major professional leagues, including two Major League Baseball teams.

A piece of my heart will always be in Chicago. Thank you for these videos. I fantasize about moving back from New York.
Thanx for watching! :). People who move away always leave a piece of them behind.
Did you move to NYC? I’m thinking about moving from ny to Chicago.
Love it! I was living there when you recorded this drive, though I moved away last fall due to a job opportunity. I'll definitely move back if the opportunity presents itself. We actually had a rather cold & snowy early season storm just a few days after you filmed this, though there was still some nice fall weather after that unusually cold & snowy end to October (right on Halloween).
Looks like a nice area of Chicago ! Families, kids are enjoying
loved it.
you drove through my part of my city 😁
I've missed it so much.... When in Europe, I miss U.S, when in U.S I miss Europe. I'll buy a house , and I'll live 6 months winter U.S 6 months summer Europe.
I used to work in a building at Clark and Diversey. As a Sox fan it wasn't easy. I used to tell people I worked "dangerously close" to Wrigley Field.
Lol I'm sure it wasn't. I definitely wouldnt say dangerous. Wrigley is The Friendly Confines. I have a video I will be posting tomorrow. I was riding my bike through Diversey & Clark this past Sunday.
My kind of town Chicago
🍻💯👍👊❤
Old town Chicago looks interesting. Debating how I will get around the city. Chicago is a temporary stay for me. I'm moving here for work.
Chicago has an excellent transportation system. Shouldnt be no probem at all.
@@chicago4k542 I work for Grubhub and Door Dash and I don't have a car. I'm debating whether I should get a scooter or a Unicycle. To deliver. Thanks for commenting
@@thenobleone-3384
Scooter is economic on fuel and squeeze through tight areas if need be. Definitely would'nt leave it unattended for long though.
@@thenobleone-3384 I'm tryn to imagine the unicycle lol
@@thenobleone-3384 I'd use the CTA
Nice tour. Do Lake Shore Drive
Thanx. Here's the recent one I did of North Lake Shore Drive.

I am 68 yrs old and disabled. I was born on Winnemac n Clark. At 2 the family bought a house on Berteau near Greenview. 1954 W Berteau. I ran away at 15 yrs old. Never got an opportunity to go back. Am I asking too much to have you drive by there slowly some day? My heart and memories still live there. Grades k-5 I went to Ours Lady of Lourdes on Ashland north of Wilson. Grade 6-8 I went to Ravenswood elementary. Then Lakeview High for one year, then Pivot Point beauty school on Clark in Evanston for 8 months til I ran. I had to, but my heart breaks and yearns for those other memories. Would you be so kind? I promise to paypal you, if you would....
When I have a chance, I will. Love to give people memories. Thanks for commenting Judy. :)
Chicago reminds me of N.Y. the landscape and layout are similar
A lot of northern cities have that similar look
It’s just northern cities make a lot of buildings from concrete to deal with cold weather.
Lived in Chicago for nearly 30 years, and now live in NYC. Going on 14 years. Barely nothing is similar.
@@luissantiago8446 yea, no alleys. But what’s the huge difference since you been here in Chicago 30yrs now your there?
@@luissantiago8446 well I'm moving to Springfield in hopes of working again. NYC is a place to make money but it's populated for me. I believe Chicago is a larger city than Springfield
Could you possibly do a prison drive by video of State View Prison or Joliet. Great Video!
It’s called stateville corrections and yes it’s down by Joliet, il south of Chicago.
Where is Oak Park located ? I’ve never been but my husband grew up there . We never made it back before he passed away. I’d love to see it.
It's basically 15 mins due west out of downtown Chicago.

West suburbs of Chicagoland.
45:00 - Did I see someone dressed as a COW crossing the street?
Lol, yes u did. There's always activities, parties going on the weekend before Halloween.
@@chicago4k542 that's a relief. I thought I might be seeing things.
Electric car? No noise.
Not electric, glad not pickn up my car noise, but everyone else's.
The charm is gone😢I lived there in the 90’s up until 2002.
Thank you for your comment. Can you please be more specific of why you moved out. Also may I ask you what state or city you moved too? I'm curious and I'm sure some of the viewers would like to know. I'd greatly appreciate it. Thank you :)
@@chicago4k542 I only moved because my father in-law became ill with cancer and my husband was his only child and he wasn’t married. He had no one, so we left our jobs and moved in with him and took care of him until his death. We inherited about 27 acres, and stayed. I love love Chicago. But we now have a high schooler and life kept us here. I rather not say where. But I did put some videos out of our puppy playing in our yard. I put it under Javy the dog. We named him after Javy Baez. Our daughter loves Chicago and wished we would’ve stayed, sigh 😔I’m originally from NW Indiana and my family is still there. We will be visiting Chicago for spring break, we live 3 hrs. from downtown.
@@teresamance8381 What a story! I wasn't asking for that much info, but thank you. I know a lot of people who moved out of Chicago and left a part of their heart here. They always want to come back whether it's just for a vacation. When I do these videos I know a lot of them are watching. I have satisfaction when they Like, Comment, or Subscribe because I know it's filling that piece in their lives when they're no longer here. Spring in Chicago is a great time to come. Good to hear your daughter loves the Windy City. 3hr. drive not far at all. Have a great Spring Break! Go Cubbies this year!
@@chicago4k542 yes! Go Cubbies!! Met Harry Carry after a game. Got a big sloppy kiss🤣
@@teresamance8381 Very very cool!! Definitely missed. Great guy.. Love to watch him sing the 7th inning stretch on the Jumbotron. I do have a Cubs tattoo that I'm proud of. Sorry Sux fans. Lol
There is no city in Chicago or in the Chicago area called Wrigleyville!
It’s a community area within the neighborhood of Lakeview. It’s not it’s own town. Chicago is a city of neighborhoods. There’s 77 neighborhoods as of right now. Community areas are like sub neighborhoods
It's strange to see these people not realizing what was coming...how the world was about to collapse.
What do you mean collapse?
