Omg I remember watching this show, it was one of my favorites growing up.
My dad passed away in 2021. He was not an artist at all but there was one thing he could draw and that was Woody woodpecker. I have so many memories of being a kid and asking my dad to draw with me and he always said yes and every time he drew woody woodpecker. It was a lovely reminder of him to see your video! And you did a great job!

What a fun choice for Dena's #FavoriteBirdArtChallenge ! Woody is a great choice, and surprisingly, the paletteful pack box seemed to work out great as well! In the end, they both look great, even without his classic colors. That Varsity nib pen looks like fun, I might need to try that. And the magic moment with ink and water is always so satisfying! Thanks for sharing your interpretation of the prompt, it's so fun seeing what everyone else has done. 👍😊👍

Nice video, thanks! I’ve used Varsity pens for decades, literally, and just love them. They come in a wide variety of colors, and yes, they bleed beautifully. They work well with wet washes too. Yes, environmentally, they’re sold as one-time use only but I have seen hacks to refill them. The different lines they make are fun. Try using the nib upside down. Also, try using them on a sulpha-type paper that doesn’t absorb. That’s lots of fun!

Oh my goodness Miranda your Woody the Woodpecker portraits in ink are perfect for the challenge!!! So neat how you used a combination of permanent pen and water soluble ink pens. The way you used the Pilot Varsity pen with your paintbrush, water and ink to make a painted effect with full values from white through grays to black is super effective. It was magical when you dropped that ink into your second Woody and you got that nuanced, organic form in your background. I hope your drywall project goes well! Nibs usually need priming before use, you can do this by cleaning them with toothpaste or there’s other methods, then ink should flow nicely.
You know, I knew this but totally forgot about it until you mentioned it - thank you!
I learned to use sandpaper on my fresh dip pen nibs from Mind of Watercolor. Gently sand the top and bottom of each nib to get rid of any coating added by the manufacturer. This also creates texture for the ink to grab onto. Prior to sanding, I notice nibs won't hold as much ink in the reservoir and when drawing the ink tends to fall off the nib and blob onto the paper. I find this doesn't happen with any of the nibs I've sanded.

Very nice supplies, loving the nip pen. I feel so accomplished because I finished an entire black ink container during last year's inktober. Wonder how long it would take you to finish that black ink.
Impressive to finish an entire container - nice! Yeah, I think it would take me quite a while, although I did pull this ink bottle back out this weekend and my daughter-in-law and I played with "exploding ink" for a few hours. We had a lot of fun. Yet we still didn't even get close to using it up, lol.
There is roadrunner, tweety bird,Woodstock, 🥰. Would be fun. Looks like I would have to start a channel for this challenge! Too scary for me! 😂
