I agree. I got an 87 about six months ago for 600 bucks. You can’t beat these things up. Durable, never stops going. I love mine. Perfect desert bike in Arizona. I ride mine every day!
I bought the exact same bike back in 1996, I was 21. I put hundreds of miles on that bike riding in the desert here around Tucson. I loved that motorcycle, I always called her "Clementine." LOL! 100 MPH through the desert is so much fun! Great video, thanks for sharing!
This is "Heidi" lol. as this was neck name of boy from my neighborhood who back in early 90s own same model pumping wellies all the time ,this is tribute for impact on me as young boy on moped, I was promised my self one day I will own one
@@jyruugly53 Hahaha... That's awesome! Well hello there, Heidi. LOL! She sure is beautiful! I really love the color scheme of the 86 XR 600R, it's my favorite year! Back in the day a friend of mine had a 93 XR 650 but I don't remember if it was an R or an L, all I remember is that I waxed him and everybody else! LOL! Clementine was bored .5 MM and had one extra point of compression which if I remember correctly was 11:1, the carburetors were rejetted and it had a Supertrap exhaust. I had also changed the gearing from 14/48 (stock) to 15/48 when I was riding in the flat desert here in Tucson which was normally the case but occasionally I would take it down to rocky point to cruise the beaches and ride wheelies up and down the sand dune so I would put it back to 14/48 for the deep sand, especially on the dune. I sure miss riding that old girl! And then on May 21 of 2000 I was riding my Honda 200 X ATC because the engine on the 600R was making a weird knocking sound which I think was the timing chain tensioner but I never got to figure it out because I was riding in 105° weather and because I had gone out drinking in the clubs the night before and I had a couple beers that day I ended up blacking out from dehydration while I was going around 50 MPH and when I did I veered off the trail and hit a tree head on, the front tire hit and then my head hit, breaking 4 vertebrae in my neck, three ribs, left lung punctured in three places and a C5-C6 spinal cord injury which left me paralyzed from the shoulders down. It's been almost 23 years and I have missed riding my dirt bike and ATC so much over the years! Enjoy them but be safe and smart, I sure wasn't! I can't bitch about anything, it's my own fault. LOL! Sorry for the novel but I thought you might find it interesting. Any ways, thanks again for the great video, I really enjoyed it! I hope you and yours have a great holiday season!
@@krisjato at least you stay positive after all you passed, and still giveing love for passion to motorcycle .i Never had bad injuries as yours but fiu times almost, iv,finished with broken leg etc.,also I was witness whe my good friend had bad axident and iv lost friend rip 😇Koziol fiu years ago ,both on around 50 mph this makes me more respect them,I love motorcycle, they are first in queue after my family lol especially off road deser etc 80 90s ,but some time this is like playing russian rulet no mether how good you think u are rides them,as father of 3 I change my way off enjoying just looking on them finding right parts to complet time to time the original one or find some parts from era make me same Happy like I was when back in day spent time on woods with my friends go crazy tryed imprss to echother not realised how bad consequences can be l ,let's yours story be a lesson for others and I'm agree 86 best yer of production gold rims graphic etc ,stay cool 😎and if you friend had 93 650 must be L ,R was 600 ,by the way never rides atv mabe one day but you just real sampel why they band them one of my wish list honda 250 two-stroke Atr if I good remember 😆 or yamaha tri-z maybe one day 😉
@@jyruugly53 It wasn't easy at first I finally accepted my situation and I tried to make the best of it. I also love motorcycles, especially off road! I started on ATC's when I was about eight years old on a Honda 200 S that my mom bought new in 1985. My uncle and my brother had Honda ATC 200 X ATC's at first and later bought 250 R ATC's, at some point I have ridden all of those. I never rode dirt bikes very much but a couple times, 1980 Honda XR 80, 1982 XR 200 R and at one point I had an early 80's Kawasaki something or other, all I remember is that it was a 100 CC 2 stroke. LOL! Several years before I bought the 86 XR 600 R I had a 1971 Honda SL 350 enduro like this one. I absolutely loved riding that bike, it was so much fun! I only paid $50.00 for it, cleaned it up, changed the points, cleaned the carburetors and the tank and just basically went through everything and put some off road tires on it, that thing ripped! My brother has the 86 Honda 250 R and he and I had some really good races with that old enduro. Thanks for clearing up that R vs. L on my friend's 650. I wanna build the rear for the doctor to look like the "mx version" reproduction lookalike rear fender and suspension styles for xr600s
I owned in pasr 87 dr 600 like them in orginal just in right colours like for me whiteand blue mabe make little more as rally rep i wouldn't put any honda parts on it i belive u can find some nice parts dedicated for suzukis,also I like them dr big dakar doctors in Marllboro sponsor colors.on thend as long as u going to like it.

Nice easy kickstart dude. I had an old yz490. That was a real pig to start. Had to kick it damn hard to get it to start. Started it like this guy here th-cam.com/video/fjlcCoDKAPo/w-d-xo.html. Hold in the clutch, lift my butt as high as I can and slam hard on the kickstart. Some times kicking her over for 5 mins to get it started. Feels great though kicking the shit out of big bike. The only way to start a 490.
Slightly Pretty much everything frame, metal tank carbs etc. XL more heavy both share same ideas and base of engine construction but with difrent setaps xr has no battery no indicators , both great bikes but xr have more aggressive stylistic,back in day xr compared in woods enduro really with more lighter two strokes this how they build reputation, as well as desert bikes, xl couldn't achieve the woods as same as xr. But still xl very good bikes

Wow startet with first kick. I have a 90. Not always easy to start. What are the sekrets to improve the machine. Especially to make easy starting.
