That was me and my mate down portland end . I left about 01:45 due to horrendous toothache . Ny mate had a 5lb 2oz cod at the beginning of the session and some bream. I just had straps. Had to give up in the end of was in frigging agony
Hi yes I think I saw a Facebook post by your mate as we drove down!!! Unfortunately no codling for us I think it definitely needs a good blow to bring in any number of them!!! Hope your tooth better…. Toothache is horrible! Cheers ian
Great spot there,i like the veiw of the chip shop and pub, that gives the extra encouragement of being spoilt.ha ha.good to see the cuttlefish and probobly squid are in,have to take the squid jigs for the lure rods.welldone and thanks.
Hi Chris lovely to hear from you!! So glad you enjoyed the video….these strong onshore winds will definitely stir it up for you!!!! Come on coddies!!!! Cheers ian
Yes the evening and darkness were very poor but the bream were very active early morning to at least rescue the session!! Thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment cheers ian
that's a lovely area where you are, I looked at Chesil on maps and found you are in Dorset, beautiful part of England. I enjoyed this fishing session and look forward to checking out more of your videos 👍🎣
Chesil beach a true wonder of the natural world 20 miles of shingle a magical place for sure!! So glad you are enjoying the videos much appreciated thanks for your support cheers ian
Hi Carl it was a struggle I admit just a couple of hours sport really but the bream were delicious!!! Hopefully this weather will bring in some codling on Chesil and my local BC beaches!!! Cheers ian
Ian i was down chesil fri & sat fished bexington on fri some fish came out on in the night 2 cod from 2 of my mates & other mate had 10 place i blanked, then fished Ferrybridge sat until 7pm 1 of my mates had a small bass & other one had 2 bream i had a big mackerel 😊but nothing else water was clear fished hard looks if both venues fish better in the night when we go again would fish the night where you fished & west bexington in the night etc but it was my first trip to chesil enjoyed it & you both done well👏🐟👍
Hi Gary I hope you enjoyed your first trip to Chesil but it’s not easy especially when it’s as clear as present!! It’s also a venue that takes time to get to know I’ve been fishing it for 50 years and still get it wrong sometimes!!!! Glad you enjoyed the video and hope you have fun on your next trip!!! Cheers ian
Hi Malcolm yes always nice to be out with Chris we’ve been fishing together over 35 years now and always enjoy each other’s company!!! Thanks for watching glad you enjoyed the video cheers ian
Hi Chris, how do you find the mag adjustment knob on the CS reels? I found that there in a awkward position digging into my wrist. Saw a mention on a forum about swapping them for the adjustment knob from the 535 mags, so bought a couple off Ebay. Very easy to fit and almost flush with the rest of the side plate. Just thought id mention it as it makes the reels more comfy to use. Jon
Always a cracking watch, great to see you both out again, was in that same spot 4 weeks ago, 30mph south west winds, had two casts n left lol, stay safe Ian n Chris, see you out there
Ouch that’s a bit too breezy for my liking too!!! Glad you enjoyed the video always appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment!!!! Cheers ian
Hi Ian, great video once again. I headed over Ferrybridge a couple of weeks ago with similar results. What size hooks were you using to pick up the Bream? - ah just rematch- size 2 kamasan b940. Yea I was using similar, glad they did the trick!
Hi lovely to hear from you yes those kamasan hooks are brilliant for the summer and strong enough to hold a good hound too!! Hopefully this low pressure will bring in the codling soon!!!! Thanks for watching glad you enjoyed the video cheers ian
Very good video, Ian, very relaxing watch. Did you use the cuttlefish for bait. I think its better than squid, especially when fresh. Looking forward to seeing the next adventure.
Hi Rob lovely to hear from you! No we took the cuttlefish home to eat ourselves!! I imagine it’s tougher than squid as bait which is probably a help!! So glad you enjoyed the video cheers ian
Definitely!!! Looks like low pressure coming in so that should help the fishing!!! October/ November great time to get some good fish!!! Thanks again for watching cheers ian
Hi Nick I use Penn Tidal 420’s. Nice sensitive tip but can punch a big bait out and easily tame big hounds etc!! Thanks for watching much appreciated cheers ian
That tide didn't seem to move much, not like the Channel. Last time I fished Chesil i have to say that the Channel fished better but Chesil is probably the most relaxing place to fish even with the increase in parking fees. Bring on the cod. Must be soon. 🎉
Hi Paul I agree about Chesil being relaxing where you can make camp for an entire session!! Not like walking backwards on Brean that’s for sure!!! Hopefully some cod in the BC soon though I had a great session with them on Chesil recently which I did a video of!! Thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment cheers ian
Hi Will they start to arrive early summer but August September and October best months by far!! Portland end of Chesil best though we have had lots at Abbotsbury too! Cheers ian
@willbacon416 ha ha a neap on Chesil is under 1.5m and a spring over 2.5. I know it sounds silly as I live on the BC and a neap is under 9m and a spring over 11!!!! Cheers ian
Well done Ian. I fished a week earlier and was one of those 'blankers' you mentioned. We had no tide, think that makes a big difference. After dark the flies came out - horrendous! Did you say you use braid as a shock leader? Never considered that. Educate me😂
Hi lovely to hear from you!! Yes when you fished they were very neap tides i think and tidal pull is as you say very important!!! I’ve also experienced after dark midges and it’s not fun!!!! I find 100lb braid great as shock leader… small knot to main line too…. Better than 60lb mono I think!!!! Cheers ian
@ianclarkfishing thanks for taking time to respond. I wonder why more anglers haven't tried braid as a leader - trying to think of a downside?! I guess you have to have confidence in swivels etc and use quality links. I will certainly give it a go! Still thinking about the opportunity to try Brean Beach too😀
Nice one Ian and Chris, do like an overnighter , best time of day when that first light hits and your rods are all ready to chuck out , appreciate the efforts, hope the bream taste good 👍🏼👍🏼
Yes mate pan fried bream last night they were delicious!!! First light definitely a favourite time of day…. However the overnight sessions do get harder and I’m still feeling it today!!! Old age unfortunately!!!😂 cheers ian
Nice video, what baits were you using for the bream? Haven’t fished there for ages, does the car park still take coins or do you need to take a credit card? Hopefully payment is not exclusively via a phone app. Greatly appreciate it if you could let me know. Many thanks.
Hi David most bream on rag tipped with squid or mackerel though a couple took fresh black lug. We paid by card for parking but you can use coins but if staying longer than 8 hours you will need to top up parking so the app is necessary unless you’re prepared to walk back to insert more coins!!! Not ideal as 12 hour or longer parking at Ferrybridge is not available 😡 cheers ian
i though you had given up fishing for a min ,then this popped up , looked like a good session ,congrats on your new PB , cuttlefish , 31mins of chesil beach fishing loved it ,i need to get down their again soon , keep them coming ATB les
Ha the day I give up fishing is the day they put me in a box!!! Really difficult the water was soooo clear we need a good storm to get things stirred up I think!! There must have been a lot of cuttlefish out there !!! As always thanks for watching Les!! Cheers ian
Well done on the bream and mackerel. Two of the best species for eating. I wonder how much longer the mackerel will be in for?. Stay safe and tight lines. Mike
@onemorecast5150 hi Mike lovely to hear from you again!! Well i think the way Chesil looked today (very rough and dirty) not much longer for the mackerel!!! I agree I prefer bream to bass!!! Delicious!!! Take care mate cheers ian
Great video ian always a good watch 👌👍

Hi ian and chris you both ok, cheers for another good vid to watch. Well done both of you on the bream and the mackies. All the best from GRIMSBY.
Hi Carl it was a struggle I admit just a couple of hours sport really but the bream were delicious!!! Hopefully this weather will bring in some codling on Chesil and my local BC beaches!!! Cheers ian
Nice session to make up for the blanks, Chesil can be hard, but it all fell right in the morning. Many thanks for sharing, tight lines.
Yes definitely worth fishing hard from first light!!! Thanks for watching much appreciated cheers ian

I fished the same mark on Thursday night Friday morning. Exactly the same results. Lovely weather for it
Yes fantastic weather so warm and calm! I think that’s the last of it now though!! Soon be cod time! Thanks for watching cheers ian
Nice to see you out again with your loyal friend Chris good to watch

Hi Jon it’s ian here! That’s very interesting as it does dig in occasionally I must get on eBay and swap them over!!!! Thanks for the information!!!!👍

@@ianclarkfishingglad you didn’t go fishing to catch bait, rather - supper.
@hookedonbass2640 yes the bream are my favourite to eat from the sea… apart from fresh tuna … maybe I should target them next time!!😂😂 cheers ian
Great to see you both back and in the fish - Fingers crossed for the next 4-6 weeks
Definitely!!! Looks like low pressure coming in so that should help the fishing!!! October/ November great time to get some good fish!!! Thanks again for watching cheers ian
Great video Ian, I suspect you have been asked this many times, what rods are you using? Cheers for now.
Hi Nick I use Penn Tidal 420’s. Nice sensitive tip but can punch a big bait out and easily tame big hounds etc!! Thanks for watching much appreciated cheers ian

Ah no the reels are Penn fathom 2 casting specials 👍

Hi Will they start to arrive early summer but August September and October best months by far!! Portland end of Chesil best though we have had lots at Abbotsbury too! Cheers ian
Cheers Ian! by Chesil standards how many metres is a neap or spring?
I'm used to fishing the Bristol channel so they all sound like nears to me! 😂
@willbacon416 ha ha a neap on Chesil is under 1.5m and a spring over 2.5. I know it sounds silly as I live on the BC and a neap is under 9m and a spring over 11!!!! Cheers ian
is that on the Portland scale? cheers

@user-mp3dj3fx9q yes I’ve never had any issues with braid shockleader! Brean fishing poorly atm I would wait until December for a codling!!!
@@ianclarkfishing I think I like the idea of sole / bass and codling in same trip😄
