Hey Greg! Those "caves" are actually Coke Ovens, used back i the early days of coal mining out here. They would mine the coal, then burn it to about 2000 degrees in those oven, and all the volatile chemicals would burn off leaving pure coke which was then made into steel! Cool spot, we have lots of em round here. Would love to go fishing or hunting with ya next year if you come back to Fernie!
Yeah those look like the Hosmer ones. A long time ago my friends and I decided it would be a cool place to have a campfire..... nope. Got totally smoked out lol. That was probably about 3 years before I met you and Warren, Greg.
Greg, I spent 3 weeks devoted to nothing but trying to catch my first trout this year. I tried everything and just could not win, and finally on my 10th or 11th outing I caught 16! I put 5 on the smoker and let the rest go! Great vid!
@@MrCisco420, I'm in New Zealand actually and I've gone after some rainbow and brown trout with no luck. I did catch a nice sized Atlantic salmon though.🙂
Greg, Dan came running, shouting up the stairs, "he did it babe" I was like "what?! caught a pesky wabbit?!" he said GREG GAVE ME A SHOUT OUT. Big thanks to you and your team for making that happen. You've made our days. Take care!
Would Love to meet you one day Greg, I’m your neighbor in the High Rockies in Colorado! We have some of those “caves” in Colorado and they are ovens for making coke. Which is iron heated up really hot so it becomes stronger, which is used in steel to make it stronger. Thanks Greg for all your positivity and knowledge
Hey Greg. I don't know if you remember me. You did some drywall work for me at the airport in Calgary. Glad to see your TH-cam is turning into something
Those are coke ovens. There are quite a few here in WV too. The coal company used them back in the day. There used to be a bricket plant close to me they made charcoal. Same area as the coke ovens. Congrats on breaking your cold streak on the Bullies. Thanks for taking us along.
History Channel has a series called "Forged in Fire" where they make weapons of history. Sometimes part of the $10k rules is only to use coke ovens for smelting the metals. Its pretty neat series. They even make Damascus steel from pounding motorcycle chains in layers. Its definitely some skill with alot of work involved.
I think those are maple syrup making domes that eventually had the wall broke into making them like caves. They stored the sap which was then boiled into syrup. When I found them, there was an old cabin nearby with a big boiler and piping from the dome to the cabin. 🍁 glad u got a solid Bully spot!
Finally! Greg strikes gold!! Now, for the fryer!😁I love the way you clean the bully and just place it in foil and strait to the fire! Presto ! Ready to eat!
How to catch the elusive greg ovens... 1 Tell him theres a place he can catch bull trout 2 send him multiple pics of you with a bull trout 3 invite him to catch said bull trout Congrats! Youve just successfully caught your first greg ovens! Its that easy folks😊
We have similar in UK and they were "Ice Houses" Before refrigerators Ice is packed into them in winter and it stays frozen thru for use in the summer.
Literally playing in my backyard! Glad you and Fraser had fun and you found your fish! A big Happy Birthday to my friend Fraser! I took a snip of information regarding the “Cave” you found Greg... but won’t reveal the author for fear of giving away our location 😉... “coke ovens in the region. In the ovens, coal was heated resulting in an almost pure carbon used in smelting.”
Happy for you my brother. I tell you something, it never fails. I am new to the channel, but every time I've watched you. I've got straight up and fried me and the little woman some fish lol. Had talopia tonight because I'm all out of fresh caught trout and crappie in my freezer. Love it and like I always tell you. You say the word we will set it up and I'll have you come to the application mtns and show you a heck of a great time hunting and fishing.
Has anyone watched the movie "Creep" on Netflix? If you have ever seen it - tell me you didn't get those vibes? Hahaha "I don't know where Greg went.. I thought he wanted to go fishing?". Frasier is a good guy though. Awesome episode.
Great job catching some nice bull trout for a meal. The fish cooked very good over the open fire. Thank you for sharing, be safe, stay healthy, Love your channel, God Bless everyone.
Hey Greg, in the last few weeks I’ve found out that my Grandmother has passed away and my parents are getting a divorce. Your videos are really helping me out, thank you so much
Sorry to hear John...sometimes there are rough and even tough times in life, where all you can do is concentrate on small nice moments untill the big storm ends...if your parents decided to find their happiness seperatedly, it means they cant be happy together anymore...and its sad but a new beginning for all of you there..i'm sending you a warm hug from Jerusalem
New subscribers here... also from Somerset, ENgland :D we love your video's Greg :) keeping us sane through lockdown :) The scenery you show us is GURT LUSH!! :D keep up the good work xxx
Glad you finally got one to eat. No butter, no spices, no bacon, just fish on the fire. Love it! Although some Woodobo spices would not be cheating. Hey, I noticed you changed up your fishing rig a bit when you started catching them. What did you start with and change to? Thanks.
Great video as always! I think you should be more careful when handling the fish you want to release though. Trout have very sensitive skin, and like all fish they got this slime on their skin that protects them from parasites and diseases. If you damage that layer of slime the risk is very high that the fish will die from it, even if it looks fine when you release it. They're even more sensitive around the gills! The one at 11:48 probably didn't make it. The best thing you can do (unless you wanna cook it) is to release the fish when it's still in the water. If you have to bring it out of the water for measuring or whatever it's better to use a net, or at least wet your hands before you touch it. I know you're a conservationist at heart, so I hope you take this to heart as well! =) And once again thanks for providing the best entertainment on TH-cam.
greg I have learned so much from you and I would love you to share you heretage with us , your so much older and wiser I'm sure you've forget half the stuff you'll spread with us so if you could remember your childhood

The thing I love about Greg is how genuine of a guy he is. No frills, nothing fancy, just outdoor living. Keep it up buddy!
Hear ya there 👍
No frills?
What about Greg's flowing locks?
He's got a Cranial Cascade of flowing Folicular flash!
Greg's Hair, is a cascading Canadian cranial crown, of fantastic flowing follicular

@DHCETC I spelled it that way on purpose.
Yep, looks a lot like the coke ovens in Redstone, CO.

Indians built them? Or pioneers?
Coke is a form of carbon; not iron.
Thank you for being you Greg! Glad you caught your fish! Beautiful scenery! ❤️❤️❤️
the footage of the Rams was awesome. 👍
What can I say? Woohoo ! That's what. Congrats on your bull and Thank You Frazier, for breaking Greg's two year curse. Whew !
Im glad you added the Rams with no music … Got to love that sound of pure power

Hey Greg, you are an excellent bushman. Your videos are some of the best on TH-cam.
Wow, thanks!
The caves are coke ovens for making coke, a key ingredient in steel production
If people paid attention when they see a barge covered most of the time their grey it's coke going to the steel mills.
