    I'm not sure I want to be an actuary if it would involve working with people like this.

    um.. the mean of entry actuaries are around $75,000. The mean of the top 50% is easily in the upwards of $95,000 - $125,000...
    look in the occupational handbook for an actuary.

    I can support KCI's argument, it is unreasonably hard to find an entry level job in the field of actuary. Companies say they always want to recruit actuaries but don't want anyone with no experience. It is a vicious cycle.

    • @thabangjosephkotelo8243
      @thabangjosephkotelo8243 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      A lot of ppl confuse maths with a lot of things,for instance when ppl find out i have a maths degree they usually follow that up with comments like,'So u like working with numbers or something' or 'U great with numbers'.Truth is I'm average and the same as the guy on the sreet with numbers and no i don't like working with them.And tht nonsense is not maths,they're just talking about arithmetic.Funny how some ppl whn they know about you they come up with an arithmetic problem to test you and how ur answer will be used to gauge the quality of ur degree and how good you are in math by those who often think of themselves as the 'enlightened ones' or 'clever ones',their confidence kills me the most i just can't hold back the laughter.But one thing for sure i will definitely persue this actuarial career startng nxt yr,but my programming skills though need a little bit of work

    • @rickb.341
      @rickb.341 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      THABANG JOSEPH Kotelo how old are you? do you think age matters? meaning if you are young.. you can gamble and test out different careers.. when you are older.. you need to make money period.

    • @thabangjosephkotelo8243
      @thabangjosephkotelo8243 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Rob B. I'm in my 30s and yes no doubt abt tht one needs to make money which is why i want to persue this actuarial career path its very financially rewarding.At the moment I'm doing post grad studies in maths so a degree alone is lame and doesn't really get u great jobs n i can't settle for tht after all tht i've been through.
      But u computer science ppl with just a mere degree or even an uncompleted one you still get out there and land decent jobs.We don't have tht luxury.
      So to answer u i think life in general is a big gamble n sometimes u bet all ur chips n make ur bet,but sometimes u spare some of ur chips and still make the bet.At this age and especially if u already have something in the bag(i.e a job) its always sensible to go with the latter option n still make ur bet,without standing to lose any of the things u already have n worked hard for.So make no mistake i don't inted to lose any of the things i worked hard for,i seek only to add.

    People make it look like the actuarial profession has 0% unemployment rate. It a very hard field to break in. If you're considering majoring in Actuarial Science in college, make sure you secure an internship else you'd have wasted all your time in college. The job market for entry level actuaries is preposterous and disheartening.Don't waste your time on this career. If i had known better, id have majored in Computer science or something it or programming related
