I had a very similar problem with a BMW, which turned out to be a slightly twisted back end of the body. What I did was align the car perfectly level with a laser (measuring at the top of the rear window), then I could see one corner was like 10mm down.. Then I pushed up on that corners rail, with improvised things, very much like you did. It ended up quite good.
Hey man I love the progress she’s coming along pretty fast, I’ve got a 85 biturbo E, needs a clutch and front body work but other than that she’s pretty solid. Great to see other people enjoying these cars tho
😂 The gaps was shit from new. Trust me i’ve own 20-30 Alfa Romeos. I don’t think there is a word for gap perfection i Italian? Greetings from Sweden 🇸🇪
Is this a "don't do what I did" video? I think you need to stop half-assing things and just go to town on that damn trunk! You got me worried about that Maserati! You really need to remove the tail lights at least, wire wheel that rust all around, apply some POR15 Metal Prep to minor rust and use your welding skills to switch out any bad rust. Once all that heavy lifting is done then the easier part will be spraying new paint and then presto its done. I don't pretend to know anything but at least I have seen bodymen remove all trim and stuff around the metal they are working on. I know that much👍
I did end up removing both tail lights at one point, just didn't take any video. Not doing rust repair yet, just wanted the trunk and tail lights to sit right.

Indeed, my thought watching this was 'that's more attention to body fit than anyone at the factory put in'.
