At this time 'Mohanam' reminds me the Mysore VaasudEvaacaarya kriti wherein he beseeches Lord Rama to save him - " Raa Raa Raajeeva Lochana"; Certainly remember this first due to the fact that it was listened recently , sung by a couple of Vocalists! The ragam is 28 HariKaambhoji janya with notes..S R2 G3 P D2 S / S D2 P G3 R2 S that does not contain Madhyamam and Nishādham; All of five notes, the harmonious notes being the Gandhara and the Dhaivata, this penatonic scale has the Panchama as it's significant anchoring note.The Classical beauty of this scale as a raga in itself unfolds when the characteristic gamakas are incorporated. Saint Thyagaraja has reveled in this raga and created several masterpieces including this one-'Mohana rama' and “Nannu Palimpa”. Of course we cannot negate the krities... “En Palli Kondeerayya,” wherein Arunachala Kavi questions Sri Ranganatha as to why he has decided to lie down in Srirangam a famous piece that begins in Mohanam; .Papanasam Sivan's Narayana Divya Namam” and this one here shared,,,,, “Kapali Karunai Nilavu” on Lord Kapaleeswara both in beautiful Thamizh. Certainly listening this papanasam Sivan kriti sung by Late. DKJ is a lifetime experience to know how much the legacy of carnatic music compositions n the rendering doctrines and styles adhering to the methodologies were practiced and further evolved as on date, which will let us know the priceless gift in our hand to be carried over to next generations. Here TV Shankaranarayanan (TVS) is very much aware of this and he is driven or have passion for music and the erstwhile Carnatic musical culture! He presented a lovely rendition of the monumental kriti . I loved his sworakalpana that was so exhaustive with a host of combination with swora notes and prompted the percussion artists to follow suit until beautifully linking to the thala -cycle wanting them to present a good thaniaavarthanam.......salute the mridamgam n Ghatam artists....Lovely recital
