- Unprepared with little knowledge in late november on a whim i decided to climb CRIB GOCH all was going well until i lost the light

I know i was unprepared and it was a bad move i hope this video stands as a warning to others thinking of climbing crib goch, if your not confident about scrambling high in dangerous places and are not prepared then please dont do it, people die on this mountain alot and are having to be rescued by mountain rescue at their risk and others alot, i personally have been in situations a number of times over my years in various mountain ranges around asia and beyond and have a little yet limited knowledge and experience .... i should have known better
I am still blown by the fact this is classed as a grade 1 scramble when it's far more dangerous that some actual alpine climbing.

Yeh was a bit dodgy to be fair first time I've had to save myself on a mountain/cliffside if I carried on in the dark whibkniws what might have happened, just about made the right call exiting down when I did, maybe 30 mibs earlier would have been better

I was waiting for the helicopter. Glad you made it back, car camping in the snow will be great, if we get some. You have inspired me to do it, but at 6'3 inches tall find a car is hard,but do able. Great vids keep them coming.🏴🚙

I have seen many CG vids, but yours was the most honest and straight forward I have seen which really show the dangers and beauty of the site. Most experienced climbers take guides up CG, but you went solo - much respect!

I was around Aberystwyth a couple of days before you doing a one nighter in my partly converted transit connect,and I felt every footstep and heart beat as I've climbed thar ridge line to the top of Snowdon over 20 yrs ago ,brill thanks for the memory 🤘👍

Love your vids mate 🤙🏻 I have 1 top tip for you from years of camping, instead of the tongs get a pair of ‘tea bag tongs’ off Amazon for like £3.. they take up way less space and do a better job IMO 👏🏼

Maybe think about some wind deflectors at some point so you can open the windows slightly when cooking when raining.

Omg. I had to fast forward as my legs were like jelly. Terrifying, you are so brave. I did aonech eagach and I froze quarter of the way over. I had to move though as folk were coming up behind me. I was terrified. I don't go near ridges. The way you talked your way down was pretty amazing. New to your channel and loving catching up. You are pretty awesome. 😊

Hate to be That guy but, This was dangerous and irresponsible if it had rained and got dark whilst on Crib Goch at around 3000 feet in November you would have probably slipped and fell or been forced to Bivouac and judging by your Gear (or lack of it) succumbed to Hypothermia. Either or, Some sort of rescue would have ensued risking the lives of others so not good. Maybe think about sticking £20 in the Snowdon Mountain Rescue Tin on your way home.
i wasnt going to attempt it but having spoken to an old (60+ years) climber who knew the area on the bus on the way up and the driver they both told me it was perfect conditions for it that day, weather report on my phone confirmed it, i have researched it a bit a long time ago so had a rough idea of ...bits .. of it but my main flaw was going slow and under estimating how quick it got dark this time of year, ive had to make an escapeish off kinder scout in near dark with a busted knee alone years back so ive experience of the situation a bit and ive been on biggish mountains in borneo, nepal and others (not alone) but it was very dodgy trying to get down with the steepness, wet grass and ledges and i lost the light the last 40 minutes, i WAS a bit worried and wondered at one point if i would have to spend the night where i was, 2/3rds the way down, lucky it was a real a warm night but still very dodgy situation one i dont want to repeat any time soon, i guess what im saying is i kind of knew when to make the call to get down and knew which route around the ledges i needed to take, i had a head torch and power on my phone for google maps to direct me to the real trail and ive been there a number of times so have a little bit of knowledge of the area, i guess everyone runs a risk up there a bit and those rescue people do an absolutely immense job and im very pleased i didnt have to bother them to be honest, your probably right though i should have at least gone with someone else maybe someone who had done the route before and set off earlier 👍

hehe - an old vid chucked up so thought id check it out - funny sketchy scramble! :) Ive had a few moments - striding edge, sharpe edge, and jacks rake. All tricky in their own ways. Jacks rake is a bit different as you are on a cliff face - go check it out :) you can camp at the tarn at the bottom.

I love that cooler box btw,you could have had a ride in a chopper with Lanberis mountain rescue,I am glad you got down ok, my daughter(And team)rescued a man up there once in flip flops!! Totally prepared eh, stupid but it still happens, suns shining at the bottom, snow on tops. Xx

Crib Goch is something I feel I want to do as I have done Snowdon the easy route and when I see videos like your own I get more confident that people that are not particularly confident still attempt to do it and to do it on their own. I am 70 years old now and I wonder if the effort it takes to even get to the ridge would leave me too knackered to get across. Yet I have seen a video on TH-cam where the guy gets to the ridge then times himself literally running across it and he finishes it in 7 minutes 20 seconds and he reckons he could get it down to 6mins plus. Unbelievable. as i think I would be spending most my time on all fours going across. I also find the pinnacles slightly daunting.
WOW that was some sketchy rock climbing. reminds me of the time I went to North Wales a remote place called Pwllheli right on the Coast. Climbed some rocks to get upto the peak! One slip and i would of been swimming with the sharks haha 😄.

@@wanderingwhere You will love it . Plenty of trails and hikes near the coast. Look up the area around where the old Butlins site used to be. Some epic rocks to climb. I rember wandering off as a kid for hours climbing the rocks. Im surprised I didn't fall to my death tbh. No fear as a kid lol 😆

Great video. A bit worried at times, maybe time to get some waterproof lined trousers, Black Friday sales on at Craghoppers, Millets etc. Also, definitely add a frozen 1.5 litre bottle in your cooler, it will stay frozen even with power off and keep munchies nice and fresh! It worked for me even in the Summer,…. also maybe a tinfoil rescue blanket (not expensive) could save your life if stuck, bright orange colour.
looking for leggings now and just did the ice bottle on my last trip, worked well, top tip on the foil blanket also deffo popping that on my list, cheers, good call
I am always a bit leary of cooking in the car apart from a travel kettle plugged into the battery power. I just worry about blowing up the thing.

similar thing happend to me at Helveyln, got lost in the mist for 1hour was desperate to get back to the car park and was getting dark, dont do Grib coch again alone, take someone with you next time

i guess its a weird one to grade really as its so long with so many sections, but there are a couple of pretty hairy moments and quite sheer scrambles/climbs, does give me confidence in your comment going to the alps though, ive always wanted to hike mont blanc but could never work out how much climbing is invloved or not
It's the complete exposure and you don't have 3 points of contact at all times, there were like 5 deaths in 2020. I've been to the alps but I steer clear of the dodgy stuff. I've just come back from a my first visit to North Wales I stayed in a B+B 2 nights and 2 nights car camping in my 21 year old Mondy. Went up Cadair Idris via Pony Path which was stunning and safe as houses but you enjoy your mountain goat life...
