Thank you very much. This room was a lot more enjoyable to do, due to having done it days / weeks / months before. Yes, the three windows makes the world of difference. Thank you for watching and commenting :-)
it's all progress Ben & Dawn, your 2 great worker's, nothing will stop you on this renovation, keep the videos coming, take care, be safe, wear suitable protection for every job. 🏡👍
Than you very much, that is a lovely thing to say. Dawn is the real worker though, I just make it look like I am hard at work. Thank you for watching and commenting :-)
But what a shame to lose that quirky old passage. It is a pure waste of space really but we are thinking of ways it can go back in, have a bedroom and an en-suite and the passage again, we will see. :-)
It's amazing how less daunted you both look tackling the second half. You both gained a huge amount of experience on the first side, great seeing how much easier it seems.👍❤
We really enjoyed this side of the house. It was only days since we had done it before really so knew what to expect and how it all came apart. The only drawer back on this side was the rotten floor in places we were working around. It all went well though. Thank you for watching and commenting, as always :-)
Hi Dawn & Ben I hope the chimney opening goes well ,How impressive that room is going to be .Great sunlight with tree windows would make a stunning master bedroom.I hope you can rest up this weekend .The house is really moving along Love and hug from California
Hiya We are now torn between a master bedroom this end and that end, Dawn is torn between the two. This one has three windows and nice views, that one is slightly bigger and warmer for me haha. The chimney went well thank you and now we have a lovely glow in the living room, we just need to get the OSB down on the floor above. Thank you for always commenting and watching AND sending your love and hugs.
Those freaking nails. When we moved into this house, the carpet had apparently shrunk (worn out, as well) and I found those long nails in the carpet holding it to the floor. Long nails everywhere; apparently never heard of shorter nails or screws for anything. And apparently the thinking is if 1 nail will hold it, then 3 are even better. I feel for you, truly.
Oh those nails, I am pleased someone else knows that feeling of prying off a piece of wood held on by 3 x 5" nails hahahaha. I have found the easy way to get them out though, cut up the timber and burn it. I am sure if I took it for scrap I would be a rich man lol. Thank you for watching and commenting :-)
Sections of built in open shelving instead of closed off corridor for me since I'd want the light from windows to fill my bedroom. Y'all are very dedicated hard workers! Gonna be very nice.

What a difference. So much more confidence in tearing everything out. I would reconsider lowering the ceilings and create attic space. In Hungary a lot of people have central heating on wood. The logburners have spirals inside and a circulation pump at the back. The fire heats up the water which is pumped through the system and the radiators. Its very efficient in use. Hope the chimney can be reopened for use. Thx for sharing
Hi, thanks for watching and commenting :-) We love the high roof space, but yes, it does mean we have no attic space though :-( Yes, the range that is here at the moment is a basic model but you can get lots of different sorts with a back boiler to heat water and the radiators. At the moment we are leaning towards oil fires water and central heating but we haven't ruled out a range with a back boiler just yet.
That's a great idea! We have so many ideas washing around but are trying to ignore them for now until we can have the time to sit down and put pen to paper. Thank you for watching and commenting :-)
Ben and Dawn… you’ve got me curious so a quick google search and I found this “In Ireland the reasons for the concealment of hair in walls and ditches are well explained in the folklore collections, generally along the lines of this Roscommon example: ‘when a person cuts his hair he should not burn it or he will have to pick it out of the fire on the last day’ (the Day of Judgement). The children of Stonetown, Co. Louth were informed: ‘Hair should never be burned because being part of the human body it must belong to the body on the last day. Hair should be carefully "rolled up" ‒ preferably in a piece of paper ‒ and well hidden in a ditch or wall, so that it may be easily collected on the Last Day’.” Sooooo… it appears there are a lot of folklore and superstitions and this may be one! I thought it may have been a part of the plaster which they DID put in to make it stronger. Interesting huh?
Aww wow yes that is interesting! I’m not sure it was human hair it felt coarser than human hair but I have, like everything that we find, kept it somewhere lol There’s lots of folklore surrounding trees as well, so we tread very carefully with anything we prune around the land, just in case! Blackthorn (sloe) and white thorn ( hawthorn).
Thank you so much! We do still blame you two though from when we saw you sitting at the kitchen table when you first started your journey. This gave us our fake confidence to do a piece to camera. Seriously though, it has got easier, production better and we do feel more comfortable in front of the camera, I do wish editing was faster though, I feel like I am doing something wrong or missing something simple.
@@thecornerhouseproject haha having a kitchen table feels like a lifetime ago! Nah you are right. takes me about 3 hours to make a video. 3-4hours to save and another 2-3 to upload. before I was working id spend a whole day making 4-5 videos every month or so. Yesterday I started to make the videoat 10am (I forgot) saved at 1pm uploaded at 4pm and it went live at 6. I wish there was an easier way! I have over 500 video files yet to edit 🥲
We were lucky enough to save the old kitchen table, complete with Woodworm eaten feet. It has one odd leg and 3 bad fitting top panels, so that is here for something to put things on for now. Yep, 3-4 hours without procrastinating and god am I good at that, so maybe 5-6 hours lol.
We found Victorian pennies in the partitions in the 100 year old cottage we're renovating and extending near the top end of lough Derg ..But nothing hairy like you found 😂😂
Dawn, you're a BEAST! 💪 And make-up while doing demolition? You are a 👑. If you have to install an ensuite, I'd put it against the far wall, using that window. It would chop up the room a lot less. If you don't need the entire length you could add built in wardrobe/closet. The bedrooms look amazingly different from your original vlogs. Fingers crossed for the fireplaces!
Hahaha! Thank you! I do like a bit of make up! Haha Yes, that was a configuration we did think could work with using that window in the bedroom…but we hadn’t thought of the built in wardrobe though and that’s a great idea! Thank you. Yes they really do! We re-watched the video we filmed on the day we looked at this house before putting in an offer and it looks sooo different upstairs now!

Thank you. I thought it needed something for those who stumble across us randomly and not just a time lapsed bit of video with no explanation. I also hope it will help stop people thinking "oh no, more time lapse" where it is skipped because people don't know what it happening. (We do it too, we are all human) So thank you for letting us know, I will put that down as a success and might do it again :-)
Dawn does more than I do if I am honest, I wish she would have a day off sometimes, she never stops and no job is too hard for her to have a go at. She is her fathers daughter, that is for sure.
We are keeping as much as we can and burning it daily, but we aren't kitted out for storing it yet, sadly. We will get there though and have logs stores as needed. Thank you for watching and commenting :-)
Absolutely great time lapse video at the beginning! I love me a good time lapse 😅 you all are coming along nicely. I'm really looking forward to these rooms being done, and I certainly know you 2 want it more than anyone watching 😊 much love from Oklahoma USA Jackie 🇺🇸💖 PS my husband is from Belfast Northern Ireland, and he's always talking about the luck of the Irish 😂
Hiya Jackie It is really funny you should comment and start with the time lapse. It was cut out on purpose but we were talking about you saying how Jackie likes a nice bit of time lapse and it was already planned to have some in there somewhere, just for you :-) Oh we can't wait. So close to the OSB floor being down now and then we will have a fully accessible, safe house to move around in and move into one of the bedrooms. Personally I like the warmth of the kitchen but Dawn says we can't sleep in there forever. I tend to disagree hahahaha. As always Jackie, Thank you for watching and commenting :-)
If it were me I would put a bedroom at each end with a bathroom in the middle. Now you could have entryways from both bedrooms or just one entry through the hallway.
Hi, Thank you for watching and commenting. We would need to turn the stairs around to have a bathroom between both the bedooms, so we are torn with.... 1. Both bedrooms have en suite, toilet and wash basin downstairs as it is now 2. One bedroom has en suite, the second has en suite but is also a shared bathroom. 3. Something else, not known yet. I like the idea of having another door on the landing so we will see what happens with the bedrooms.
Great minds think alike. We are leaning towards not having partitions again and having two large bedrooms with en suite. Nothing is set in stone at the moment though while we get the major bits done in time for winter. Thank you for watching and commenting, it is appreciated :-)
Thank you for sharing your project; with all the conflict going on in the world it's a blessing to be able to follow along as you make progress. Maybe the ensuite can go diagonally opposite the bedroom door and including the end window. That would leave two windows and a decorative fireplace for the bedroom. I assume you will want to keep the fireplace even if its not functional. Youll have fun being interior designers after so much focus on demolition and structural restoration.
Thank you John. Yes, the world is a need of a little love at the moment, sadly I don't think our videos will bring world peace, but we will continue to try :-). Top secret.... The bedroom chimney is also opened up but at this moment we are yet to try it. We are thinking of a small wood stove, for safety and the heat storage they give verses an open coal fire, like the living room. Not sure fun will be the word for interior design, but the down time looking, chatting and drawing will be a nice break. As always, thank you for watching and commenting :-)
Demolition Dawn strikes again! I will have to think of a new name soon as you are really cracking on now, perhaps Designer Dawn. As horse hair was used to bind old types of plaster together it might simply be that, I hope it is a good luck charm. we are all wishing you Good Luck!
Oh Dawn will like that, "Designer Dawn", what will that make me? I am starting to feel a little left out..... nice names only though hahaha. Fingers crossed it is a good luck charm for us. x
Well done you two, I can't believe how much you have achieved so far. Please take a break, you'll feel much better after, all work no play is not all ways a good thing, though I do understand the need to Crack on. Take care, look after yourselfs. Love from Your Aunt Chrissie and uncle Dave n family xxx😘
It does! It was much nicer to work in there than the first side of the house as it just all came apart. Thank you for watching and commenting :-) :-) :-)
Hi Pete Looking at the thumbnail, this is the second bedroom. The are both pretty much the same size though so we could do either as the master. At the moment the current plan is they both have en-suit but as with everything with us, this mate change lol. Thank you for watching and commenting :-)
Thank you :-) We have done well this last three weeks ad are really pleased. Don't tell anyone as the video hasn't been uploaded but he opened the living room chimney AND the chimney in the bedroom too. Shhhh though, it is a secret at the moment. Thank you for watching and commenting :-)
We could already see the lime creeping between the ceiling panels before we had taken any down, so we had a sneaky feeling it was going to be messy hahaha. And again and again Thank you for watching and commenting :-) It really means a lot to us :-)
For ease of plumbing, Kitchen, laundry and bathroom downstairs should be on the same side of the house with Ensuite above them. If you put a new doorway at the top of the stairs then the guest room can share the ensuite upstairs. You just have to decide which room upstairs is getting a bathroom with a window based on where the plumbing is to the septic system and incoming water from the catchments. Where the water heater will be and what kind of water heater? How big do you want your Spa Bathroom to be? Bathtub upstairs and shower downstairs or both shower and tub in both bathrooms? I can picture you in the building supply sitting in tubs to test them out. So exciting to be this far along now. I'm seeing daylight through some of the slates, is the roof guy coming to fix the slipped slates or can you do that now?
Yeah we’re with you on that with the plumbing and going with bathrooms and kitchen and laundry all being that side of the house. Not 100% sure with hearing the water at present…Ben has looked at the possibility of a oil fuelled combi boiler which would do both the hot water and radiators, there’s also the option of a different range in the kitchen that has a back boiler could be either solid fuel or oil powered that would do the water and also rads too, just things we are toying with. Again not 100% with the bathrooms, whether to go for baths or just shower en suites. We did ask the builder about the slipped slates…because it’s a hip roof it’s not easy for sticking a ladder up to get to them, so we would need to get either some scaffolding or a cherry picker to access it safely. All the ridge tiles need replacing and that’s what’s caused the slates to slip. Once we get the floor down in the bedroom we can get up on the trestles from inside see if there is anything we can do just to get us through winter to stop the rain coming in.
I would drop the passage way to open it up to the light and a big room I feel it takes away from a big room..We are remodeling a old house and I took walls out and it just opens it up so much and u get more light 😊
It does add a lot more light, especially being a three windowed room. With an en-suit we would probably lose a window but it would be nice to have the quirky passage back. Thank you for watching and commenting :-)
Where are you guys exactly? We're near to Cloone/Mohill. We've done something similar, but much less than you guys are doing, but we might be able to share knowledge etc (eg getting a well/borehole reinstated, etc etc etc )
We’re not far from castlefore/keshcarrigan, so not too far from you really. That would be great, we’re just on rainwater at present but will look into a well if the rainwater for us isn’t working out lol How long ago did you do your place?
Looks great well done you 2, if your having ensuit in that room y not use the wall opposite the door and have a bathroom and a walk in wardrobe then you could put the corridor back up and have the entrance opposite the front window into the room(hope this makes sense to you) love watching your videos your doing great xx
Hi Perfect sense, thank you. We were thinking about that end for an en suite but are trying not to get to bogged down with layouts yet as we still need to get the OSB down, so close now though. Then there is getting a shower and hot water inside and a kitchen sink. Once that is done, hopefully we can put pen to paper and start drawing some ideas. Thank you for watching and commenting :-)
If you badly want a passage why don't you put built in cupboards to form the wall. If you just want more privacy just rehang the door to swing the other way. Regards from South Africa
This is such a brilliant idea and one we really like. It just seems a shame to not have the quirky passage back again, but we do love the light. We could have "windows" above the cupboards though to let the light in and across the room still. Thank you for watching and commenting :-)
They are just trestles. The higher they go the more the extension bit wobbles. They are more noise than movement. They won't topple even with the biggest wobbles, I tried before I let Dawn up there. Thank you for watching and commenting :-)
Well…the coat? Yeah I think we’ve mentioned it before somewhere but not sure and wouldn’t have a clue where lol so don’t worry about missing it, anyway….the coat stayed up for sentimental reasons really. It was hung there when we viewed the house and we later learn that this was the Grannies room of the previous owners. The Grannie and her husband were the ones that had the house built and it just seemed wrong and sad to take it down if you know what I mean? Sadly it did have to come down in the end with all that had to be removed in that part of that room. I put it through the washing machine with the intention of keeping it somewhere but it did not fair very well, I think the moths had eaten a fair bit of it. 😔
Best solution so far, thank you. Hopefully though, this last bit will be the last of them for a little while. Thank you for watching and commenting :-)
@@thecornerhouseproject no problem. Those chimneys you have would u not consider getting rid of them bar one that serves the living room. Back in the day fires were needed in bed rooms but now they just suck heat out of the house unless u have wood burners fitted.
It is the wood burner we are considering doing, one for the heat aspect and two for safety. The chimneys certainly have a good suck on them. The bedroom one might get a pillow up it until either a fire is lit or a stove gets fitted hahaha,
I am going to say it looks like jute to me. It was used in making string and for weaving into bags, but the way it looks, looks like what I have in my historic camp fire making bag. I have flint, steel, burnt cloth and jute. It catches fire well. But it could be Sisal or hemp or even horse or human hair. I haven’t heard of hair being put in the walls for luck….a shoe, cat, coins, and messages of blessings, but I haven’t seen hair for that. That being said, horse hair, sisal, hemp and jute were all used as chinking, much like what you were doing with wool, but that was a twist and the house is not a log cabin…ok sorry, domestic history is my job so I can go on and on. I would love to say that it might be a lock of a lovers hair hidden…I like that story. By the way, how old were the coin? I would love to see them…I am much to curious sometimes. Thanks for another fun vid
Yeah do you know it could be jute thinking about it…it looks like it had been purposely tied into a loop like and placed into the panelling. I like the lock of a lovers hair story too! Old romantics aren’t we?! Haha alas I don’t think it is 🙁 I think the oldest coin may have been 1916. I will have to do a video on all my finds one day…spoiler alert….there’s a lot of rusty stuff hahaha! Being curious is a good thing in my book…keeps your brain healthy!
Nooooooo, the builder managed to remove the block ,so many large stones, and as a bonus he managed to unblock the bedroom above... but that is a secret so don't tell anyone until the video gets uploaded ;-)
They aren't happy with using one, they use three or four for something one would work for. We have so many nails sticking out of so many bits of wood. It will take us a month to remove them all. And again..... Thank you for watching and commenting :-)
We had to take the ceiling down for a few reasons, one being possible woodworm and damp in the timbers of the roof. It lets us see if there is anywhere letting in the rain. We also needed the chimney uncapping and that had to be done from inside the house as concrete and stones had been poured down the chimney and the builder couldn’t remove them from outside on the roof, although he did try very hard! Another reason is we needed some form of insulation in the roof space. Most of the lime torching has deteriorated and fallen, which also leaves the slates vulnerable to movement and then water ingress. So all in all we didn’t have a lot of choice.
You have lots of space. If you want to get the most out of your space, study caravan brochures, they have years of experience, why not use it. Best wishes.
It will be in the ceilings for sure and around the edges of the OSB keeping the heat in the room below and the bedroom. The walls will remain the lime plastered walls they are now. We are going to go a winter and see how cold it gets before making any decisions on boarding the walls with something.
hand-pink-waving Hmmmmm, have a normal wave instead, in fact, I can't even find the emoji button on my laptop, so just believe me when I say I am waving back hahahaha
Amazing what you can accomplish when you ignore people who tell you you can’t do it. Looking good guys!
Thank you, as always. Yes, we are a determined couple and winter being just around he corner helps make you push that little bit harder too lol.

As always Jackie, Thank you for watching and commenting :-)
@@thecornerhouseproject Absolutely great video guys!
1. Both bedrooms have en suite, toilet and wash basin downstairs as it is now
2. One bedroom has en suite, the second has en suite but is also a shared bathroom.
3. Something else, not known yet.
I like the idea of having another door on the landing so we will see what happens with the bedrooms.
Nice to see your progress and some great advice from some of your subscribers.xx♥
Thank you Pa! Yeah it’s finally starting to get there! Yeah some really good advice! Xx
If you leave the passageway out, you would have more space to put furniture in. & more variety. Such as a fancy divider.
Thanks Auntie Chris, fingers crossed once we have this side of the house re-floored we can slow down just a little….maybe 😂 😘 xxx
That side definitely looks a lot less damaged, apart from the lack of floor in that corner.👍
It does! It was much nicer to work in there than the first side of the house as it just all came apart.
Thank you for watching and commenting :-) :-) :-)
Master bedroom
Hi Pete
Looking at the thumbnail, this is the second bedroom. The are both pretty much the same size though so we could do either as the master. At the moment the current plan is they both have en-suit but as with everything with us, this mate change lol.
Thank you for watching and commenting :-)
Great video! Nice progress. Sure hope they can open the fireplace.
I suppose it would've been too much thinking it would be any cleaner taking out the ceiling. No wonder there is so much outside.👍❤
We could already see the lime creeping between the ceiling panels before we had taken any down, so we had a sneaky feeling it was going to be messy hahaha.
And again and again Thank you for watching and commenting :-) It really means a lot to us :-)
Someone’s old ponytail! ❤
Really not sure, it felt a bit too coarse to be human hair but I suppose everyone’s hair is different. ❤️
Hi
Perfect sense, thank you.
Shouldn’t the scaffolding have cross bracing to give it more stability?
They are just trestles. The higher they go the more the extension bit wobbles. They are more noise than movement. They won't topple even with the biggest wobbles, I tried before I let Dawn up there.
Thank you for watching and commenting :-)
❤🎉
If you have previously and I missed it, sorry, but could you explain the jacket/coat hanging on the wall?
@@thecornerhouseproject I love that, it’s a great story, even with a sad ending. Very kind of you to try to keep it.
To stop that scaffold from wobbling brase it between the opposite walls with one or two lengths of timber screwed to one scaffold board.
The bedroom one might get a pillow up it until either a fire is lit or a stove gets fitted hahaha,
How will you be insulating the walls in the future?
@@KJ-kg8kc this is a good question
Haha alas I don’t think it is 🙁
I think the oldest coin may have been 1916. I will have to do a video on all my finds one day…spoiler alert….there’s a lot of rusty stuff hahaha! Being curious is a good thing in my book…keeps your brain healthy!
Did you light the fire in the living room with the chimney sill blocked? And will the bedroom fires be able to be lit ?
Nooooooo, the builder managed to remove the block ,so many large stones, and as a bonus he managed to unblock the bedroom above... but that is a secret so don't tell anyone until the video gets uploaded ;-)
@@thecornerhouseproject OK lol
Keep that bedroom the size it is, have a shower room & a walk in wardrobe
It is quite possible this could happen.
Thank you for watching and commenting :-)
They ran out of five inch nails in the other side.😂
They aren't happy with using one, they use three or four for something one would work for. We have so many nails sticking out of so many bits of wood. It will take us a month to remove them all.
And again..... Thank you for watching and commenting :-)
Builder Ben is a bit obvious, Bodger Ben not accurate so what about Beam fitter Ben ?
Bodger Ben is quite fitting, you just don't get to see those jobs hahaha.

Why take the ceiling down??!!
That is a good idea, thank you very much.
Thank you for watching and commenting :-)
Be sure u put insulation in ur walls and ceilings because there is none!! Burr 😊
It will be in the ceilings for sure and around the edges of the OSB keeping the heat in the room below and the bedroom. The walls will remain the lime plastered walls they are now. We are going to go a winter and see how cold it gets before making any decisions on boarding the walls with something.
hand-pink-waving
Hmmmmm, have a normal wave instead, in fact, I can't even find the emoji button on my laptop, so just believe me when I say I am waving back hahahaha
