I always thought that his speech about is feelings somehow comes from a genuine place, but Barney isnt very self reflective so he wouldnt really admit it to himself
Ahh sad. This is by far my favourite episode in himym from a comedic standpoit and its my go to episode to watch when im bored but i can admit thats only the case, because i wasn‘t really invested into barney and robin on my first watch of the show. Nowadays the placement of this episode frustrates me too but if you look at it as a stand alone its brilliant.

I really love this episode, even though I agree with your criticism. I have actually read The Playbook, which they published back then, it's still somewhere on my bookshelf.
On my first watch I saw this episode without following the overall storyline that much, which really helped this episode to shine. In fact it is my favorite episode of the whole show, but it is placed really weirdly and not to its advantage. And yes to the new circle edit
this episode always makes me angry. i get that barney is a very insensitive guy, but the fact that he would go as far as to fake a whole speech for robin, just to hook up with some girl.......... sure, there are theories that barney just couldn't recognise his own feelings or that he was doing it to keep himself from being sad after the breakup, but it still leaves a bitter taste in my mouth.
I don't get your hate to ted/robin lol, i find a bit disturbing that you prefer the guy who seduces his best friend ex when she is real and vunerable to be with her. I'm glad i'm not your friend jesus.

Stand alone its fantastic while editing it i had good laugh but fully agree its poorly place.
"the Scuba Diver" is pure perfection and so is Barney. The playbook ispure comedy gold.
