    Thanks for the fun project. I like the Scoring-Pal Scoreboard. It has an optional self healing mat that fits on it that gives it more versatility. It has held up better for me than the Martha scoreboard.

    The “hand hold think” you speak of was never intended to hold the paper down with; it is simply the mechanism to lift the rail up once your cut is completed.

    Well, thanks so so much. I have had the same Fiskars paper trimmer for a few years and was getting very frustrated with it not cutting straight. I realise now what I've been doing wrong :( Will head off now and try it your way. :)

    I didn't realize that using the handguard to secure the rail was killing my cuts. I kind of figured I'd never get razor-accurate cuts but getting cuts that were straight up cooked was super frustrating. Going to have to try another cut run now with this in mind!

    • @kathrynscraps
      @kathrynscraps  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't cut vinyl on this trimmer, so I don't know for sure how it will do. My guess is that a rotary style trimmer will probably do a better job on vinyl than this one, but it's possible this one will still do a fine job.

    Omg I was getting frustrated earlier because my paper was crooked! I've never used one before today and couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong! And why have that thing there to look like it'll hold it down!

      This trimmer's quirks are so frustrating because it's actually a really decent option for the price - as long as you know how to work around some of its issues. Hopefully these tips will help you get some good cuts from your trimmer!

    Hello Kathryn...been doing some research on my fiskars trimmer. I have no idea which one I have. It has the blue flowers on it. When the swing arm it out it is all white...no orange on it. The one I have seems to work better with the blade G. My issue is the handle that has the blade on it lifts up from the right to left. I have not seen any of the cutters work this way in my research. Tried to find out if I have a left handed paper trimmer?....can you give me any suggestions. You really know your trimmers inside and out!

    • @kathrynscraps
      @kathrynscraps  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, Catherine!
      My guess from your description would be that you have the Fiskars Portable Scrapbooking Paper Trimmer (12"): www.fiskars.com/en-us/crafting-and-sewing/products/paper-trimmers/portable-scrapbooking-paper-trimmer-12-196920-1001
      Looking at that trimmer online, it does seem as though the blade track lifts in the opposite direction from this one. In that case, you may find it easier to use "upside down" (blade track on the left vs. the right) and pull the blade towards you.

    Awesome. What size paper did you start with?

    • @kathrynscraps
      @kathrynscraps  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      To make the 5x7 Pinwheel, you start with a 12x12 piece of paper. 💖

    I use the rail lock when I cut, is that okay?

    • @kathrynscraps
      @kathrynscraps  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think it's fine to lock the rail to hold it in place while you cut - the distortions seem to come from using the handle to hold it down.

    Which cutter is best for the chipboard and to use for any cutting?

    • @kathrynscraps
      @kathrynscraps  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The trimmer I recommend for papercrafting is the Rotatrim M12 (or M15 if you print/cut larger than 12"x12"). I have had my M15 since the fall of 2008. It still works perfectly and it's still on its first blade. I've cut thousands of sheets of chipboard on it. It works great! The only thing it doesn't do is cut the 5x7 pinwheel I showed in this video.

      @@kathrynscraps can you suggest a trimmer that’s as good but not as expensive? I guess you have to pay for quality😂

    • @kathrynscraps
      @kathrynscraps  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@maybso3083 Unfortunately, no. 😭 I've tried a bunch of trimmers over the years to try and find a less expensive replacement and there's nothing that has come close. If you can't get a Rotatrim right now, I recommend you use this Fiskars trimmer.

  • @amkarei

    WHY does FISKARS have those funky KNOBS on the 4 corners of their TRIMMERS?!? Why can't they just have regular corners? OR, R O U N D E D ones like their trimmer designed to go into a 3-ring binder??? (I'm prone enough to snagging things off my counter and onto the floor!!)

  • @jackieturner3033
    @jackieturner3033 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I bought the Fiskars Procision trimmer and disliked it too. It is just taking up space because it was too expensive (even half price) to throw away.

    • @kathrynscraps
      @kathrynscraps  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I found the gap between 6" and 5.5" to be REALLY unfortunate. It really decreased its usefulness for me. On top of that, the issue with cutting chipboard just killed it for me.

    7:30 You're NEVER gonna get a totally razor straight cut. So we could put a man on the moon and return him safely to Earth over 50 years ago with what amounted to slide rule technology but today for $36 we can't make a paper cutter that makes a perfectly straight cut every time?
