Motorized Toolboxes?! The Toolboxer Project! - Stacey David's Gearz S16 E5

  • Some of the best gearhead memories come from a time when as a kid or a teenager, we started tinkering and building by using our imaginations. We didn’t have instructions or have a budget to buy all kinds of parts. Maybe it was painting your bike, engine swapping a go-cart, or making a booger-weld frame out of some spare metal you found in the scrap pile. The point is, we created something from a pile of parts. And that’s where the Toolboxer project comes from. Follow along as Stacey takes three Cornwell Toolboxes and turns them into drivable vehicles by pulling parts from junk yards, craigslist, and Facebook marketplace. Time to get back to using your imagination and making things happen! This week on GearZ.

    I grew up watching this guy build some of the nicest builds I've have ever seen on Trucks. He really is a mechanical genius

    My ex-boss who was a truck mechanic had a large Cornwell toolbox mounted on a rolling dolly, I on the other side of the shop repaired floor cleaning equipment, a customer of mine had a riding scrubber, battery powered they gave it to us because they were getting a new one, anyway, I stripped it down to nothing, all dead weight gone, and was hauling ass around the shop, I suggested to him that he should find a way to use it to tow his heavy toolbox around as he always looked like he was struggling to push it, well he did and thought it was awesome!, he was a great guy and a few years older than me, so anything I could do to make things easier for him, I was happy to do it!

    They don't call them "mechanics" anymore. We are automotive technicians. I worked with a guy at the Ford dealer back in the 80's. His name was Frank and he was from eastern Europe somewhere. Always thought the KGB was after him. Anyway, back then not everybody had taco wagons. A lot of us, like me had Mac tool chest with bottom cabinet, middle box and top box with saddle bag boxes on each side. So Frank motorized his box. He used power seat motors and transmissions. Mounted them underneath on the bottom cabinet. In One side bag he had installed small oxyacetylene tanks with gages and hook-ups on the side of the side bag. Then the other side bag he installed a battery with connections mounted on the side bag. He would hook-up his jumper switch and drive the darn thing around. So he could drive his box to where he was working in the shop. He could jump cars, he could do welding. Oh and he put a siren on it so everybody knew when he was driving his tool box. It was quite ingenious.

    One should've been electric or hydraulically driven.

  • @aaroncake
    @aaroncake ปีที่แล้ว

    So essentially, they aren't going to be motorized toolboxes, but instead toolboxes mounted on a modified Dixie Chopper (because all of us can just call up Dixie Chopper and ask for a spare chassis, right?) chassis, and another mounted on another modified puller chassis. Basically, toolboxes mounted on go-karts. Shame. This project screams for electric hub motors mounted at each corner and a battery pack at the bottom of the box in place of the bottom drawers. Then mount the seat cantilever from the rear with a joystick control. THAT is a motorized toolbox. Control directory by varying the motor speeds.

  • @Vincent-ke5zn
    @Vincent-ke5zn ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Put the toolbox behind the driver, otherwise you'll be driving blind
