  • Perito Moreno Glacier breaking, section collapses.
For those who like to watch and enjoy slowly how a section of the glacier collapsed with all the small precursor details and sounds, please watch full video 3+ minutes. For those who just want to fast-forward - go to 2min 40sec or so. And to get a perspective: the average height of 74 m (240 ft above the surface of the water of Argentino Lake, in Argentina. The terminus of the Perito Moreno Glacier is 5 km (3.1 mi) wide. It has a total ice depth of 170 meters (558 ft).

Calving is a normal glacial phenomena. A glacier is a flowing River of ice. If it did not flow down hill to the sea, the snow level would increase to the upper atmosphere . So do not panic, this is NORMAL

Search for 'calving.' It is a common phenomenon but it dose not happen every single day. As the glacier constantly slides down the valley, gravity breaks its lower end. This is what you see falling into the ocean.

Tesaludo cordialmente. Eleonora.
