    After learning more about expatriates from another video, this video ties together, on a larger scale, the complexity and reasoning for many businesses to outsource, along with how they do so. It is obvious why international business, as a sector, pays so well after learning its true makeup.

    To my understanding, the geocentric approach seems the most reasonable and effective for human resource. From what I see, this appears to have the most positive effects, that outweigh the disadvantages and prove to be the best on the global scale.

    Before this class, I had no idea how much went into doing business internationally, so this was incredibly interesting to learn about. I also love the images provided within this video, as I feel it helped explain each approach even better. I wish more businesses took staffing more seriously, as this seems beneficial with the right employees, but they have to be willing to work, and want the same things as the people hiring, which is difficult to find today in my opinion.

    Until I took this course, I never really thought about the importance on staffing of firms who would operate overseas internationally. It can make a significant impact on the success of the firm and how there are three different approaches to staffing. There are so many variables to think about, such as culture, location, policies, family life, ect. I think these three approaches do a good job explaining how policies are changing to adapt to the modern world and finding the best method to be successful in staffing a firm.

    I work as a manager at a country club in Tyler, it has been really been hard to find employees that actually want to work. It was extremely interesting to learn the different ways that businesses find and hire employees.

    The explanation of the ethnocentric, polycentric, and geocentric approaches was really insightful. I found the ethnocentric approach interesting because it highlights how firms often want to maintain a consistent corporate culture, like when Samsung sends Korean managers to their foreign operations. But what stood out to me was the drawbacks of this approach, such as creating resentment among host country nationals. I also liked how the video broke down the polycentric and geocentric strategies, showing how they can help avoid these issues.

    I have never really considered staffing strategies and their importance before. Actually, I did not realize that there were even strategies to this topic. My initial thought of the topic was that every company would follow an ethnocentric approach, but after reviewing this video, it is clear that that is not the case with the existence and implementations of the polycentric and geocentric approaches. Personally, I think the geocentric approach makes the most sense if regulations and its expense are limited. Great video!

    It never occurred to me that different business strategies would need to implement different HRM strategies, especially when it comes to staffing. This is a very interesting concept, and I like how the video laid out the advantages and limitation of each staffing strategy. One concept I think is very important is resentment in host-country employees. It makes sense that a host-country employee would find it difficult to work in an environment where they felt their culture and business practices were not understood by their managers. It would also lead to problems if they felt there was not growth for them in the company. This is an important thing to consider when choosing a staffing policy.

    Using the real life very well known company Tesla, really helped me grasp the concepts discussed in this lecture. I was very interested in learning about all of the advantages as well as the disadvantages for the Ethnocentric, Polycentric, and Geocentric approaches. It always surprises me how involved other countries are in companies and brands I uses or hear about in my day to day. I thing is was a great video to end the course on and I will be using these videos in my following courses to help me in my studies.

    Staffing is important I have worked for international companies and the best success I have found is a merging of both the parent corporation and country of location is both in the management as a mentor to parent officers but the parent officers to mold the country officers for the quality of the product to be maintained.

    I think this video is interesting because it discusses the different types of staffing strategies in international business. Choosing great candidates is crucial and the video stated that some countries can be underdeveloped and may not have a unified corporate culture. In addition, it is important to be able to transfer core competencies to a foreign operation for a ethnocentric approach. In contrast, polycentric approach may be less expensive.

    I found it interesting that in this video, it used the example of real companies to get the point across, such as the example on the “Dutch mafia”. The Geocentric approach, in my opinion was the best option for many companies, as you know you’re filling executive positions with the most professional option possible.

    Before this, I never realized how important staffing was internationally and all the thought that goes into staffing in international business. It's super interesting to see how each has there advantages and disadvantages. That most of the shortcomings of one are what the other excels in. I can understand why many companies would lean towards a geocentric approach, especially in America because people care quite a lot about diversity and inclusion. Although, in some cultures, it may be the norm to have an ethnocentric approach.

    I enjoyed this video because I think it is important to consider different staffing strategies and policies especially when corporations branch out into other countries other than their home country. It is also important to know the culture of the country before just assigning someone there, it is also important that the transfer is trained highly well in order to decrease the chances of lawsuits, both poly and ethnocentric are important to have as long as their are boundaries between the two

    I was able to relate to this video especially because I assist in the hiring process for for small business I currently work for. But it was interesting to see the staffing strategies explained from a broader perspective in regards to the hiring process for much larger companies and businesses. There are a lot that go into managing a business, much less the staffing department - which is said and believed to be the make or break piece of any company.

    I currently work at a company that uses the polycentric approach, the headquarters are located in Germany. There is a lot of communication via Zoom calls and vice versa. However, after looking at the company website I noticed that there were more opportunities in Germany for growth than here in the states. For example, they had paid internships for corporate positions and corporate management opportunities, something that is not available to us. Which does cause some resentment in my behalf.

    Before watching this video, I was not aware of the various different approaches of staffing policies. The one policy that caught my attention was the ethnocentric approach. I can understand wanting to keep the same culture and values company-wide, but it seems so difficult to relocate so many employees to other countries for management positions. The geocentric approach seems to be the fairest way of staffing a company, because the nationality of an employee is not a consideration when hiring someone new. Diversity in a company, especially in leadership, can offer great success and new ideas. I think that hiring a candidate based on capability is the most beneficial staffing approach.

    I was completely unfamiliar with the different international business strategies used by companies to hire employees. I just assumed that every business used the Geocentric Approach to hiring since that is solely based on skill and qualifications. It was interesting to learn about the strengths, weaknesses, and reasoning behind using the Ethnocentric and Polycentric Approaches, especially since I had no prior knowledge of them.

    Staffing is something that has terrified me recently. I have a small business and the thought of being able to trust someone to do the things you do, the way you do it is hard. It's nearly impossible to clone yourself as a worker. This is why I think that staffing internationally is a spectacular thing and sticker to add to your wall if you can manage to do it correctly.

    Good staffing is essential. For most companies, labor is the highest cost. Its also a factor with high variation in input. Unlike a machine, no two workers create the same amount of input. Those factors, plus the necessity of effective leaders, means companies must have a good staffing strategy that meets their goals.

    I feel like staffing is one of the most important things that can make a company make or break, both domestically and internationally. It's interesting to see the different staffing strategies that are used and which strategy was typically used for each company. Personally, I prefer the geocentric approach since it based on one's merit instead of their background, even it has its disadvantages.

    I never gave any thought to the staffing strategy. Not only that but taking to account the different workplace of each culture. Each culture has different acts different in a workplace environment such as the case with Mitsubishi.

    Staffing strategy is very important for businesses to be successful. Since different strategies have certain benefits and limitations it is vital to weigh out each option for staffing.

    It makes sense that host countries would have problems with companies preventing locals from being hired or promoted to management. However, it never occured to me that companies would have staffing polices that may actually prevent locals from being hired. I think that this is such a horrible thing to do. Geocentric staffing methods are likely the best eventhough it may be more expensive.

    The video explain well how companies have to very selective on staffing when branching out to a new country. Whether they would hire a local or parent country citizens, and how it can lead to culture myopia

    Hiring people is very difficult. There is a reason companies have entire teams dedicated to hiring people. Every industry has different needs and every position with in those industry have different needs. It is very important to know the different types of staffing strategies and their advantages and disadvantages. Human resource employees should know these different types and apply them accordingly to every staffing position.

    It doesn't make any sense to me to try and bring a foreign nations workplace culture into another country. It makes the most sense that if you want to enter a foreign country the workforce culture would be something you are buying into. In the documentary, "American Factory", there were people who learned to get along and appreciate each others culture. However, the overwhelming sentiment was of division.

    I found it to be interesting how the Geocentric Approach is defined as "...assigns job positions to any person best suited for the position, regardless of the employee's background, culture or country of origin." In my opinion, this would be the best approach in a perfect world. However, in todays business environment, I believe a person's background does matter when it comes to being considered for a position. It is important to take into account a prospective candidate's history via resumes and references to be able to understand as to whether or not they would best fulfill the role.
