Hey question, for smart homes, do you have to physically press the button in the front? I currently use a Wemo mini switch outlet with my old Mr. Coffee which allows me the flexibility to turn it on and off. But if you turn off the power to the device (aka unplug it) and then turn it back on again, will it start brewing or do you have to physically press the button.

Andrew, that is a great question. Truthfully I do not know since I do not have a smart phone and I don't see anything on their site about it. That would be a great question to direct to Ratio support ([e-mail])

Thanks for responding. I’m guessing no, based on how the plug works. I read the manual online and I don’t see any clear answers. A simple way to test is, you hit the button in the front and it is therefore assumed to be “on”. Then you unplug it. Then, the next morning (in this hypothetical situation), you plug it back in. Would the Bloom phase begin or do you need to press the button again, even though it’s plugged in?

I think you missed the importance of not having plastic in your coffee maker. Someone who is willing to spend this kind of money on a coffee maker is someone who doesn’t want toxic BPAs and other plastic by products in their coffee.

have you ever tried the wilfa performance? how does it compete with the Ratio 8? I know there's a big price difference but they seem to do similar things.

I actually haven't. I just got the Wilfa Uniform grinder and it is the first Wilfa product I've tried. I have heard good things about the Wilf Performance, but have not compared it side-by-side feature-wise with the Ratio 8.
