    What makes Charlotte & Valegro (Blueberry) so wonderful & magical is: Charlotte's true ♥️ of Valegro & her appreciation of Valegro's drive... and Valegro adores her right back. A horse chooses to whom they give their best to. They remember kindness & they remember abuse for a long, long time.

      Valegro Dressage she does - it’s Grand Prix dressage rules. She’s always said if she could ride in a single bridle competing on him she would as she doesn’t need to double, but she has to use it

      a lot of dressage riders ride in a snaffle. no point in using the double bridle when just schooling

    The more I watch this...and iv watched numerous times...Valegro is just magnificent..he has such cadence and you can just tell how willing he is, how hard this horse tries, you can just see it. I don't think I have ever seen a horse and rider in more harmony.. I can say this ride is perfect and truly represents dressage..so inspiring..

    alot of people say how they are disappointed that valegro was gelded... I think 1. It meant he was on the dressage front for longer rather than going into stud and 2. it makes him individual. Ya know, one in a million :)

    • @bowbeforebrooke
      @bowbeforebrooke 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      joanne devaney he was retired pretty dang early anyways 🤣 it’s odd though that they at least didn’t take straws when they gelded him. Guess it shows it’s those you don’t expect

      Any stallion has to be approved to be a stallion and he wasn’t approved (this was before he was even broken). If he had have been approved Carl wouldn’t have gotten him and he may never have even been broken or become a dressage horse. Obviously people say that he should have been approved because he is so amazing but he didn’t meet the requirements of being a stallion so he was gelded🤷🏼‍♀️

    • @ClassicalPianoisMyJam
      @ClassicalPianoisMyJam 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sarah Bradford what are the requirements? And this is for shows I assume.

    • @poulexa0611
      @poulexa0611 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Basic Bedard i don’t really know what it’s for or what the specific requirements but when I read the book Carl wrote about him called ‘Valegro’ a while ago or watching some video or something Carl said that he didn’t pass the stallion inspection or something along those lines but I know that every stallion has to be approved for breeding and he wasn’t🤷🏼‍♀️

    • @dominicweber

      I always wondered why they didn't clone him. The clone would obviously still have his testicles, so they could breed with him.

    Lovely horse. It just shows you don't need anything special, just a decently constructed level compact horse who is eager and willing. He's not particularly uphill built or flashy in his movement but he want to give his all when asked, that makes a good horse. Its that trust that makes him want to be generous, then you can ask for a flashy movement by showing him how it's done and you get it. Lovely. Many horses sold for very large amounts of cash at auctions with impressive flashy movement and uphill build will never be another Valegro. They need that spark in the eye to be fostered in a playful way and space and time to develop under a kind and gentle hand to want to be another Valegro. Let them play in the field, be a horse, eat some fresh grass and build a happy horse mentality. Never force a frame or demand, play play until they play back with you then you can do things together that will give you wings. This is one of my favourite horses and trainers, very most definitely. It just shows in how the horse works, how big and scopey he will get just because he's happy and to please the rider, who in turn is obviously delighted. What could be a better thing to watch. Its also such a relief in this day and age of forced hollow backs, trailing hinds, swishing tails, stiff wheel barrows, stopped in front, held up in the head. Nasty, no wings at all just very obvious misery. I think this combination has allowed judges to see properly at last, through to the horses well being and the riders true ability. Well done chaps! I love it.

    Yes, it does take lots of money to pay for the top olympic quality horse (gone are the days where an off the track thoroughbred will win the dressage at the olympics), to pay for all the shows, to pay for the training/trainer. Charlotte doesn't own this horse nor pay for the training - because she's a talented enough rider to be a professional trainer in her own right, with help from Carl Hestor of course. Britches is the old english spelling for what in the US are called breeches. Also known as Jodhpurs.

      @@ceilidheyford5744 Um, Even with an RDA discount my family couldn't afford for me to keep riding once a week and I started at 12. Had to give it up at 17 even though I was still working at the stables... I had Lidl jodhpurs and rode in my mother's old wellies because I couldn't afford boots. 15 years of mucking out everyone else's animals down the line I can't even keep a roof over my head let alone dream of sharing a horse let alone owning one, buying show gear, paying for horseboxes, entrance fees and all that. How the hell do you start without a ton of money. I wasn't even allowed to ride when I signed up for a full time Horse Care apprenticeship and worked 7 straight days.

  • @emilywhittle1420
    @emilywhittle1420 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I rode for over 10 years competing locally in my area, but there's no decent competitions here or proper trainers on a regular basis. I did it for the pure joy of being around horses I loved. I always enjoyed jumping more than dressage. But I always won the dressage competitions I was in so I ended up focusing on that form of riding. The fact I won anything at all was a miracle. I was riding a leased school horse, a gelding, that looked like a mare. His confirmation was to be honest terrible, but he loved putting on a show and was easy too train. He passed away 4 years ago...I miss him every day he was my best friend. He was a chestnut with a blaze and four stockings. Only 14"3 hands and I'm 6 foot. His name was Haddy Poco "Bueno"; quarter horse. Ironically he was initially a stud but when gelded because of bad temperament he calmed down a LOT with people but he always hated other horses. Hated them so much in fact that we never kept him in a paddock. We just let him wander the barn property and kept the gates closed. But he LOVED people. Even though other riders didn't like HIM because he was bad around the other horses in arena and I had to have all my lessons alone without someone else in the training arena with me....I miss his hugs so much. His owner gave me a braid of his mane when he was put down and some of his ashes that I wear in a urn locket around my neck all the time

    'Lots of money' is subjective. If you can even afford one horse you have lots of money to me. My family has never been above the poverty line and I've never managed to earn more than minimum wage. I've worked with horses for 15 years and lost my home 6 times so can't even dream of owning a horse and I know how to budget... When I was an apprentice trying to get a Horse Care qualification I sold all my possessions to travel in to work and spent no more than £3.50 a week on food....

Oh, and I have seen FEI riders airlifted from shows with head injuries. No deaths, thankfully, but at least two who might have been dead if it weren't for their helmets.

  • @OTTBs4me

    Samantha Vermeulen clearly does not understand the sport of dressage. At any upper level equestrian event generally the athletes have many sponsors who fund all those equine airline shipping fees, medical expenses and whatever other major expenses. But sponsors arn't free! Olympians all work hard to get to where they are at by training (and mind you not every rider feels helpless enough to insist on hiring a personal trainer rather than building their own skills with continuous practise ), but effort doesn't cost a thing:)

    • @heycarolineday

      It still takes a lot of money to get to the point where you can obtain sponsors, unfortunately.

    The question over the selling of top horses that have won for their nation is interesting here. No the nation shouldnt fork out to keep the horse in that country, nor should anyone else. Its pure greed that they are sold in the first place. Quite honestly who would pay millions of dollars for a school master anyway, it's insane. Rarely do these horse go on to win anything outside of their new country and even then maybe just once or twice. Money not at all well spent unless its a stallion.

    They would be very shocked but freak accidents don't seem to generally happen in the ring ever. So far not since 1912 the first Olympic dressage competition ever held. So this could be seen as hysteria. After all the horse is being judged amongst other things on being obedient and relaxed. Certainly everyone should wear a helmet while training. Free choice though.

    He does the maneuvers, but he's not light. That is not self carriage. She's holding him up and has a LOT of contact with that horse. I'll really be impressed when she can do all of the maneuvers on a slack rein and he carries himself. That's what DRESSAGE is all about.

    I've never got used to the hard hat in dressage, I think it looks silly,dressage a child on a tricycle. I think for riding at home its sensible but in the ring it looks quite honestly bonkers. Like wearing a tuxedo with a cloth cap it's all wrong. The % of riders killed in the dressage arena at shows across the globe, Zero. Thankfully it's not mandatory FEI like in the USA. I think if ever the FEI introduce this then they must change the entire outfit, no more tails.

      River P I think it looks smart. Charlotte has always worn a helmet ever since she had a head injury.
