I have found that the farther out you go, the less chance of running into another human. And if you do, there’s usually only two kinds of people you meet; someone with the same mindset (enjoys the seclusion, wants to be left alone), and the crazy whacked out loony toon.
Neither one is really a threat if you have a large dog, or other security measures.
You can usually tell which is which by the type of conversation they give.
Don't be too sure of that, you NEVER know how dangerous someone can be no matter how harmless they may appear or seem to be.

i live on a small farm. miles from town. i spend most of my time on the farm, i'm 73. i don't carry any of the gear you talk about. but in my pockets i do have a small flashlight, extra batteries, a bic wrapped in gorilla tape, and a victorinox camper, along with my inhaler and eyedrops. i have a leatherman super tool in the glove box of my utv. i've carried a knife since i was 8 years old. feel naked without one. i have an emergency bag, i don't call it a bob because i'm at my bol already. it has all the gear i need just in case. maybe a fire or who knows might make me leave. maybe a few times a month i need to go into town for something. but i don't like the city life. so get what i need and beat feet back home. city folks are weird imo. lol anyway, i always watch your videos and learn stuff i can apply to my life. common sense is a great skill.

I'm 67, live in a county seat in Iowa. My life is probably a lot like yours. I walk my dot 900-1100 miles a year in town. I started carrying water and his bowl when the walks got to a mile four years ago. Then added a few more things to the pack, the just in case stuff that is also good exercise to carry. Poncho, flashlight, lighter, knife, knee wrap, ankle wrap, spare socks, bandana, cell phone on my belt, sidearm on me.
I get a kick out of guys that have a BOB with 60 pounds of tools, supplies, shelter, and have never taken it out for a weekend.
The small town, it contains just about everyone needed to run a civilization. I can still get to the city, but like you I'm not entertained by the city. Get what i want, get to the appointment and get home.
Very similar list here, as well. One thing I always carry with a first aid kit is one of those tiny bottles of super glue. Used it to seal deep cuts fast. My belt is actually a strap and has worked as a tourniquet while applying the glue.

I would also take my phone. Yes,I totally understand getting out in nature and getting away from civilization but as long as you have signal you can use gps if you get lost. You can alert authorities if you get injured. You have flashlight. You can look up how to treat a wound if you don't know. The authorities can ping your phone to find you if you're injured. My phone saved my life when I had a stroke. I was by myself, working and had laid my phone to the side. I had a stroke but was able to crawl to the phone and call 911.

Trauma bandage, space blanke (it's like a swiss army knife), plaster strips. If I need an tourniquet, I use the space blanket. Yes, I can and I train civilians in how to stop critical bleedings and what to do when the ambulance doesn't show up

My rule is to never go into the woods without a firearm, any small rabid critter can more than ruin your day.
I used liquid gun blue on my On3 EDC and haven’t had any issues with rust….yet 😅
As an old man that walks his dog a lot, the furthest I've walked in 4 years is 6.4 miles.
The pack started as a bottle of water and the dog bowl four years ago. Now it weights 20 to 27 pounds depending on the walk and the weather. It is good exercise for an old man. And I know based on my typical time how far I could ruck in a day.
The thing I always have on me? ID and insurance card. I'm an oldtimer.
How about you guys with the bags, have you gotten some road work with them?

Only thing i would add to your basics is antibiotic ointment. Good multipurpose tool. First aid, emergency lubricant, and fire starter.
I run with a very similar approach as you, Jason. My mental checklist is as follows:
1. Safety & Tools (first aid, some sort of nav, and my outdoor tools)
2. Fire
3. Water
4. Shelter
5. Food (or easy snacks for quick trips)
Oftentimes, my EDC + a Grayl or Metal Bottle, poncho and a few small items in a pack have me covered.

Tip on the Bic lighters. Buy the ones that have designs printed on the outside. NASCAR, Potleafs, Toystory, whatever. Then cut off the plastic wrap. The lighters themselves are opaque. You can see the fuel level this way. White lighters aren't as translucent as these ones. Former smoker here. Trust me, you always wanted to have a fire source.
Jason you mentioned at the beginning of the video that you didn't have a big budget to have duplicates of items. Now I myself I feel that I have plenty of gear and there might be just a couple of items that I don't have butt I have what I have is because I always check the clearance section and I I comparison shop, I look for those stickers with marked down prices and sometimes I find something very cheap on eBay or at a thrift store. If it was not for my bargain hunting, I wouldn't have the stuff that I do so I think that people should know that they there's a lot of good stuff that's cheaper and will allow you to own a few uplicate items or build that Second survival kit.
I'm very similar. Something that is always on-body (for me) is a Multi-tool, and or a Swiss Army knife. Gear can break or need some adjustment. If I'm wearing pants, it's with me!
I always carry aspirin, imodium AD, throat lozenges, and a few other pills in a small lozenge tin.
A small whistle is another small item that could save your life when your exploring the great outdoors.

My go kit is actually webbing (army stile). I have a fire starting kit that has 3 different fire starting methods. All in a 1 oz tobacco tin. A reel of bank line, 100ft of paracord. Spare knife. 8x8 tarp. spare socks in a sealed bag. 1L nesting cup and bottle (stainless steel) and a plastic funnel with coffee filters for filtering the water before boiling. The last bag has a sigg water bottle in it (0.5L) and 6000 calories of dehydrated rations with about 10 seed bars. The whole lot weighs less than 12 pounds.

The problem with coated M&Ms is the dye used for the color is a known cancer-causing agent, I quit eating them just for that reason.

Without my phone and GPS I would be completely lost all the time. And even if I weren't using my gps, my phone has a kick-ass compass and that would help me.
Two Glocks are all I need. A rifle or shotgun is nice for hunting, but here in the Eastern mountains and forests I'm not lugging around a 7-8 pound non-concealable weapon in an environment with less than 70 yards of maximum visibility on average where my goal is to cover ground efficiently and avoid conflict. I can hit a human silhouette at 100 yards with a Glock and double lung a deer at 40 very consistently, a rifle is an unnecessary luxury and weighs more than 5 Glocks on average. Pistol marksmanship is an extremely important survival skill that isn't given enough attention. The same people who baton knives because they don't want to carry a 2 pound hatchet will carry a 7 pound rifle instead of a 22 ounce pistol to compensate for a lack of training, this in the same environment that Native Americans survived in for millennia with only wooden bows and arrows that were useless beyond 25 yards. Long guns of any kind should be automatically disqualified altogether from survival/bugout loadouts unless you live in some flat prairie where you can see hundreds of yards in all directions and don't have to constantly crawl over brush on all fours or use a walking stick so you don't fall down the mountain and die.
