The reason why this movie was chilling to me, and I suspect, many women, is because we have seen seeds of this in the men we know. A perfectly decent guy turning into someone different when he is in a group of men. There is a shockingly high threshold to what a man will look away from when it is done by a 'bro'. Not all men, yes. But I have seen this for myself and it has chilled me to the bone. I would never ever willingly put myself in this situation because I would rather be paranoid than chill. The moment I found myself in a campsite with a group of guys, I would have abandoned the plan and returned home. I'm not blaming the victim, I'm saying, that sadly, I know enough about the world, to meticulously go through life doing my best to avoid becoming a victim. Again, to the inevitable commenters, not all men, yes, yes.
Well, I do think your words serve as a reminder to us that we should uphold our principal at all time. However, I don't think it happens only or even just mostly on men. I think it happens to all human. It is a long established crowd mentality that we are always more lenient toward our "own".

As someone whom rock climbs and mountaineers I question like everything in this movie. For example, when they reached higher ground above her, she is dead. Even if she is protected by an overhang they can just rap down a bit and just drop rocks on her. Simple. She is dead.
3 grown men allow a jackass of a friend (that none of them like) to murder a harmless and agonizing women just so he doesn't arrested for trying to rape, beat and kill her? Unrealistic. If they were teenagers I get it, but three grown men should've known known that if she survived she could testify against Josh. And even if she didn't survive, it would be a 3 against 1 during the testimony.

@@user-nn1vs I can't believe I have to explain to this but even though Ray wasn't seemingly not as bad as Josh, he was totally innocent. His occasional protests and even the couple times he tried to "help" don't make up for the fact he could have done 100 other things to put a stop to this if he really wanted to. I realize it's just a movie and the movie has got to happen but the way you see this situation is very real and it leads to things like this playing out in real life. Let's just say this wasn't a movie and really happened - Ray had so many opportunities from the very beginning when he wasn't even in front of Josh and could have left to go get help. Or used his phone to make a phone call. He had a phone on him!!! That's before they started climbing the mountain. Once they got past that point it does make it much harder for him to truly help her but he could have done it. When he does finally decide to actually try and do something it's only when he realizes his ass is on the line. Like after he finds out Josh killed the friend they left back at the cabin and again later when he calls the other guys phone who has supposedly gone back for help. I couldn't believe it showed that he had a phone on him the entire time. So yeah I agree ray wasn't the worst of them and wasn't most deserving of the fire death but even if he tagged along he was willing to be there and at the very least help his friends kill this girl. It's easy to forget that part bc she lives and we figure that's how the movie is going to end anyways so the stakes never feel that high. Its so scary to know there's guys out there like you that excuse this kind of behavior and to know you're literally a real life Ray.

Please never leave your friend with a group of guys like that ESPECIALLY strangers
I would leave my friend if she chooses strangers over me
@@nutzhazelbut it’s still dangerous for your friend though...
Kelly went to bed, she didn't leave her
Watching Kelly climb is nerve wrecking. Also, so many props for her strength and intelligence!
Personally I think that the most disturbing part abt the movie was Josh setting the guy on fire and hearing the screams of his pain and suffering.
Of course you felt sorry for the spineless guy who helped murder an innocent girl.
I'm pretty sure Josh is a narcissistic serial killer, if ever this has a sequel. It should be Josh killing somebody before this movie, if not then why does it look like he planned everything before it even happened like he knew what to do and how to do it well. He seems unbother killing Sophie and his friends. So it's either he killed before or he planned it ahead of time
Quite possible. He's definitely a sociopath ... probably spent his life being spoiled and always getting exactly what he wanted, then when a situation comes along that spirals out of his control, he just sees the solution as killing anyone who might get him in trouble. He's clearly rich, so maybe believed it could all be covered up somehow in his twisted mind.
He probably killed that bully they mentioned
he did actually, in the movie josh’s friends said that they did help josh back then to cover up some crime and they got away with it. i assumed its about murder too.
You described a prequel, not a sequel.
Serial rapist too probably
To those who watched this movie, is there any explanation why instead of running to her car to escape or on a highway or a place with people, she chose to start climbing a mountain???
I mean when your cornered to take the next best option. She was recording them and I don’t think could’ve had time to run to the car considering it she was kind of already on the cliff. They were already chasing her right?
4 men surrounding a woman trapped in a car without the keys - if she could enter the car. Very short ending to that one.
@@spaghetti1641 tbh if she had time to pack her gear and run to the base of the cliff, she had time to run, get keys, get in car. I'd say relatively the same amount of time would've been taken

These are some of the WORST FRIENDS ever! Firstly that girl leaves her drunk girlfriend alone with 4 strange dudes?
Then one of the dudes turns psycho and the other three go along to assist in ‘mutilated murder’ just because “We’d been bros since the 3rd grade.”
Then psycho friend gets pretty chill with killing off his own friends (which they are incredulous to until it’s too late) even setting one of them on fire (for the LOLs).
How the hell could she have known that these dudes were psychos ? Sophie seems like the kind of reckless girl that want to hang out and bang anything that breathes...
Since they were friends from 3rd grade.
tbh it sounds really unbelievable then guys help victim but 5 minutes later kill her and start chasing witness.
She kept saying no to her best friend but she said even tho she was uncomfortable and her friend sofi was more comfortable staying with the guys then her, I’m not saying it’s true but maybe if she did tell her to come with her sofi her best friend would react like Kelly is a mood Ruiner and say she wants to stay
Why would that friend feel comfortable to sit and drink with strang men? I would have left her there to
I almost took this seriously but the antagonist was a psycho for no reason and the boyfriend died while proposing. Too silly.
It’s very realistic
The proposal death cracked me up. What a lame way to die. 😆

I've gotta be honest with you: There's only so much you can do. If the situation is bad and I beg and plead for her not to go, I'm not going to sacrifice my safety to please her. I'll have to leave. I'm sorry if that makes me a bad person, but I'm not putting myself in a position to be raped or unalived bc of my friend.
save your friend from their father and brothers at the end of the day they are man
It really depends on the group.
@@sadisticwinter8354the point is to try, better a friend mad at you for strong arming them into leaving, than a dead friend. If you had a daughter you would want them to have this sort of friend right? Not sure what people without moral strength have to offer the world anyway
It's her choice, not gonna force her if that's how she wants it to be.
It is a long established crowd mentality that we are always more lenient toward our "own".
cringe tf idiotic -_-
Not all men? More like hardly any men
I’m a trans woman. When I began my transition in how I outwardly presented, my mom had this talk with me. She told me that I would see a new and terrible side to some men and that I always needed to go with my instincts to stay safe. It’s sad, but true, and erring on the side of caution has saved my life now.
@@moochoopr9551ngl, this ain’t about your make ego right now. You know damn well men like this choose to r@pe and abuse women, if it was all humans then why do these men choose women. Rock climbing is safe if you know what you are doing. After a while, falling on lead becomes fun, unless you're doing trad.
Rock climbing really isn't my thing, but I understand the thrill. My only gripe is why travel without a firearm? If not this scenario, what about bears or mountain lions? I know this is a movie, but people are really out here risking their lives without the proper protection.
Lol whole lotta issues with this
1. What type of "friend" retreats to bed while on a trip with a friend leaving her alone with 4 randoms
2. Picks up camera after hearing something strange and not a phone and a weapon
3. Gives broken legged friend 20 pills with alcohol...🤤💊💊💊🍾
4. She just sat a loose water bottle and thought it wasn't gon fall

I wouldn’t watch these films in their totality but I appreciate them very much as short stories with very little overly grim and gratuitous scenes.
As someone whom rock climbs and mountaineers I question like everything in this movie. For example, when they reached higher ground above her, she is dead. Even if she is protected by an overhang they can just rap down a bit and just drop rocks on her. Simple. She is dead.
You underestimate the strong and invincible power of plot armor.
It didn’t look like there was any loose rocks. That’s why they tied something to a rope and tried knocking her off with that.
I think they are not as skilled as her. So they are not even aware of their advantage of being on the higher ground.
Or cut the portaledge
As a novice climber.......should people be concerned about your suggestion? 😅
Who proposes to a girl in such a gruesome way like WTF dude
3 grown men allow a jackass of a friend (that none of them like) to murder a harmless and agonizing women just so he doesn't arrested for trying to rape, beat and kill her? Unrealistic.
If they were teenagers I get it, but three grown men should've known known that if she survived she could testify against Josh. And even if she didn't survive, it would be a 3 against 1 during the testimony.
For you and me and many others that’s obvious. But you will be surprised at how many people are dumb enough to go along with it.
I think you underestimate how weak willed some people are
Some men are able no matter the age

I questioned so many of their techniques and gear usage throughout the movie as an avid rock climber 😔

how? 🙂
It's funny you say that since I thought this movie wasn't very good but maybe it would be appealing to climbers... Guess not 😅
Based on this recap, the climbing actually seems more realistic than most climbing films. But that's a very low bar.. If you're not literally laughing out loud, then the climbing is depicted more accurately than in most films.
I literally nearly started crying at Sophie’s death she’s so innocent she deserved better.

he was the only one that deserved not to die, he never hurt her or if anything he was trying to help her. even tho those guys had done something like this before. he had the most gruesome death.
@@user-nn1vs Nah, he was a coward. More worried about charges being pressed than rape or murder.
actually they tried to help her but she acted like a scared moron , josh pushing her makes them all suspects , and the other chick was filming for no reason , but if u so equal why not beat up the men hehe
@@maddieb5787 yeah but what if he did get help? Who knows josh still could have killed all of them including himself because he is definitely the type to say “if I go down you all go down with me”

The sad thing is that in real life family members would try to convince someone to not press charges instead of friends.
People always protect the abusers in the family.
Always...
How the hell does Josh hope to get away with all of this?
Well once the first girl is dead he kind of has nothing to lose, he's facing life in prison if he's caught, and each other person he kills or tries to kill only locks him in even more.
Had a friend like Josh in my life. Horrible person. He did so many bad things. I'm just glad he got punish for those things
