I LOVE reading books that nobody talks about online!! I feel like the majority of the literary / translated fiction books I speak about are rarely discussed online! I more so meant that if I’m already losing interest in reading a book and I’ve heard NOBODY discuss it, I rarely find a reason to want to keep it 🤍
No but listen - the writing in eyes guts throat bone is beyond gorgeous and *definitely* worth a shake! And Brutes is definitely not dark academia but more a genre I think of as heat haze fever dream - I enjoyed it but probs not for everyone ❤
The Five by Hallie Rubenhold was on my bookshelf for 3 years before I read it and it is now one of my all time favourite books! It is written so beautifully and doesn't feel like you are reading a non-fiction. I highly recommend picking it up soon!
The minute you said living room. I was immediately looking for Pedro. I read the Cruel Prince for a book club and hated it, but I was so intrigued by the politics I have the second one >> I'm having some regrets rn. I'm with you with the cosy Asian fiction; I wish it was for me.
emergency contact was first published in 2018 and yolk in 2021! I was like waaaait no way yolk has been out that long hahaha. covid rly messed up all our perceptions of time
17:56 I am currently listening to Kala on Libby and honestly it is fantastic. If you don’t want to keep the book then I would implore you to listen, the actors are Irish and it feels like Stand By Me for the modern day, so nostalgic and some of the quotes I have written down made me rewind and listen to them again🌷✨
Kinda crazy because of all the books that it would be, I would not expect the Ferryman to be what causes me to comment. I picked my copy up at a charity shop because it was a signed first edition hardback and it interested me enough to give it a go. I have to say, despite the intimidating size, the writing is really easy to get through and I read the book in about a week. It's really hard to say whether you should keep it or not because anything could toe the line of spoilers. I have to say I was genuinely surprised how much I enjoyed it, I was worried it would fall into the category of gross female characters written by a male author but actually I found the characters so interesting and multi-faceted/imperfect. It went a lot further and wider in scope than I expected but overall I gave it 4/4.25 stars I think? That being said, I don't know if it's worth you keeping it. You know yourself the best and whilst I ended up having a great time with the book, I also don't know if I can argue it's worth you keeping it. Idk maybe read a couple of chapters and see how you find it?
📚 Hagstone sounds really intriguing - did you end up keeping it? Also, I loved the heaven and earth grocery store but the best way I've been able to describe it is that it reads like a transcript of an orally told story, passed down through folks in a small town. It's stories about characters and how their individual story then weaves into the community as a whole. It's not for everyone but I was a lucky one who enjoyed it.
quite sad to see you disregard books simply because you've seen no one else talking about them online. feels like this is the bad ways in which booktok/booktube/content creation has negatively impacted the way we read books. if people aren't talking about them or we can't create content that will reach the masses by discussing them, then just disregard them, when that truly could be one of the best books you'll ever read. seems like a poor reason to get rid of books.
@@EmmaMartin-hr3gw I answered a similar comment here already. I read TONS of books that nobody talks about and I have a handful of books that I know I’m the first person to discuss online (and are some of my favourites). The reason I mentioned ‘nobody mentioning them’ was when I already have no interest / am losing interest and NOBODY has mentioned it / I’m not actively seeing a reason to keep it then I’ll sometimes get rid. I don’t think it has anything to do with the ‘ways’ of content creation or bookish content
maybe with the ones you've been tempted to keep u can do a reading vlog on them or a read it or unhaul challenge!!! those are super fun to watch
I just might 👀👀
i loveeee greta and valdin! it is so funny and heartfelt
Agree ☹️

So may of those are on my wish list 😂😂
I just finished God of the Woods and also gave it 2 stars. I also read This Summer will be different in January and loved it. 📚📚📚

Ooo interesting I do love an ensemble cast for an audiobook!
Hagstone is so good. I think you would enjoy it. I went to one of Sinead Gleason’s talks last year and she is really impressive ❤

I'm really curious about Brutes and Lucy Undying but I've never heard any reviews about those. If anyone has read them help ? Lol 📖
📚📚📖📖
Also, Yolk is not YA and it’s incredible you should also give it a go

📗 I really like your taste in books. Between you and Jack Edwards my bank account is angry. =)
