World's Largest Truck Stop in Walcott, Iowa

- IF YOU BOUGHT IT, THEN A TRUCK BROUGHT IT! WITHOUT TRUCKS, AMERICA STOPS! Remember those phrases when you're driving around trucks. This is the world's largest truck stop. It's called the Iowa 80 in Walcott, IA on Interstate 80 at exit 284. In the main building, there's a full service sitdown restaraunt called the Iowa 80 Kitchen as well as a food court containing a Wendys, Dairy Queen, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, and a Orange Julius. Next there is a large convienience store and a fairly large gift shop. Then there is the 32,000 square foot Chrome Shop with a tractor trailer and two bobtails inside. Upstairs is largely for the Professional Truck Drivers. This contains 23 private showers, a Dentist, Barber Shop, Chiropractor, large theater, TV room, laundromatt, and several meeting rooms for the employees. in the lot are enough parking spaces for 800 trucks, two diesel islands pumping TA fuel, a Truck O Mat truck wash with two wash bays and a trailer washout bay as well as a Dog O Mat pet wash station close by. Then there's a ten bay garage staffed with TA mechanics, all of this is open 24 hours a day seven days a week. Last, but not least is the corperate offices for the Iowa 80 Group (owners of several other truck stops as well as theis one) ,CAT Scale Co, and the Truck O Mat truck wash Co. Next to that is the Iowa 80 Trucking Museum which wasn't open when I was there that day.

Thanks for posting this video.I've been there many times, but my family has not.Now they can see for themselves,'The Worlds Largest Truck Stop"....R.I.P. Bill Moon, founder Iowa 80.The place was already big when he passed away,but not this big!His family carries on his legacy today,fulfilling many of his plans and dreams for the truckstop and the industry.
Iowa 80 is all of the above "trucker heaven." I love to spend my home time there.
Good video. Iowa 80 is one of my favorite truck stops to go to. I would love to take my home time there. If more truck stops are to be built, they should follow Iowa's 80's example. good job.

I get that impression sometimes and would love to visit. I am English and live in Portsmouth in Hampshire which is in southern England. The US is so vast and that alone inspires me to visit. I love the idea of New England and I've seen pictures of New England in the Autumn and it looks so beautiful with all those varying colours.
i went to this place while in training in the year 2000. it was awesome,when i got solo,i made sure i went back thru there.

Actually, the Dog-O-Mat is in that small building. You do hook your dog on to a chain but it's just to keep him from jumping out of the tub. My dog didn't realize what he was getting into until after I hook him in a then turned on the water. He went from waging his tail to putting it firmly between the legs in not time flat.

OMG look at the price of fuel!!! Very cool, i kind of missing driving, retired almost 3 years ago at 55 as a Teamster of 35 years!!!! Hammer down boy's!
I live in Walcott the Truck stop is amazing the ''Cake Boss / Buddy'' went there and made a delicious cake and it was huge.
@ArmsxXxCollector They can train, but first you'll have to get your CDL first. They do have a truck drivers school but you'll need to call them to find out the cost.
@woodencoasterfan I got my training from Roadmaster in Jacksonville,Fl. I had a frustrating time learning how to operate a truck. And that some of my family did not approve, which did not make things any easier. I had to drop the first two classes due to tuition problems and work. Then I took another class and made it. It took me ten, frustrating months to gradulate. The important thing is that I did the impossible: I made it.
if you had the money to start one I bet you would do pretty good out of it, as long as the service was good, good food and everything reasonably priced you would kick arse
Ouch, that's gotta hurt the pocket! That's also amazing that the UK doesn't have the kind of facilities we have at most of our truck stops here in the US. I hope you guys can start insisting they put in those type of facilities there. I know England is a smaller country, but that doesn't mean the drivers there have to go without the basic necessities.

in ireland there are no truker stops ,the side of the road is as good as it gets
@RCKTBOY7 Unfortunately they don't take the trailers from the rail yard or the air port to the customer so you really can't eliminate the tractor trailers.
Got some dental work there. Really a godsend for a guy on the road!

yes but how did everything get to the rail yard and from the rail yard to the store or factory or where ever? No matter what it is its had a ride or two on a truck

@plksnatchers Well that depends on the person. For some, it's not that difficult, but for others it is. But you must go through a licensed truck driver training school which can be expensive.

In the UK diesel is over £7 per gallon and due to the threat of strike action resently, resulting in panic buying and causing a sudden demand, one service station was charging £1.78 per liter (about £8 per gallon) for diesel. Also, I would like to add, in the UK truckers get given shit facilities, if any at all. It never seizes to amaze me that in countries such as the US and Germany, truckers are provided with decent facilities. In the UK the working person is treated like shit.

@ballygeale1 Wow! Absolutely no truck driver facilities in Ireland!? I'm suprised someone hasn't tried to open a few truck stops over there already, or atleast open some places where a truck driver can get some fuel, a shower, and a hot meal.

@madhatter0110 No this video was shot in 2009. Hard to believe the way prices have drastically shot up isn't it? It's not like these oil barrons have been loosing money all these years to justify the spike in fuel prices. I think they just want to get rich off our backs.

so true, I live in Minnesota and ONLY go to MOA when I have family come to visit-and I have never bought anything there either.

@woodencoasterfan I plan on driving for Swift. Ill stay with them for a year and if I like it ill stay if not Ill look for another company. Ill set up a good relation with my dispachter and do my best to get my loads delivered on time and safe.

@falcondriver100 You know, the President has no control over the price of fuel. Crude oil is bought and sold on the world market and it's the "free market" that determines the price of fuel. FOX News said that very thing when the national average price of gas rose to a record high of $4.37 per gallon under the George W Bush administration in 2007.

I have a truckers licence and a bus licence. I currently work in the bus industry and it is the pits. The conditions are terrible and the companies don't give a shit about the drivers. I am envious of the guys in the US as they seem to have it all. England is a shit hole and the job prospects are poor. I've had my truckers licence for nearly five years now and never had a chance to use it. What a waste of money. Wish I'd never bothered.
