    HW MAKHUBELE BIOGRAPHY
A Makoxa (Ka Homu) Limpopo, RSA born musician who grew up in Ngove wa Khambani village 01, 01,1934, was trapped in the music net purely by trying to prove a point since where he grew up there were no famous musicians around. During his time there were no musicians around Giyani, most musicians came from Malamulele area. This self-taught legend started like any other, who back in the days used traditional instruments to craft most of his compositions. It all started in 1958 when his love for dancing, mostly Xitsonga traditional dances (Xigubhu, Swincayincayi) became the order of the day. From that moment Hlengani William Makhubele started his music compositions.
HW Makhubele, as he is affectionally known, agrees that conflicts between artists are being there since time immemorial, but his “Famous” conflict between himself and Dr Thomas Chauke ( One of Xitsonga Music Legend of our time), it never happened nor proven. “ I never fought with Dr. Thomas Chauke, is a lie”, confirms HW Makhubele in one of his interview with DJ Brian Rikhotso on 19th September 2018. In 2005, Makhubele received the Living Legend award from the SABC Xitsonga Radio station, Munghana Lonene FM.
His unique guitar-strumming skills, deft arrangements, course voice, and songwriting abilities have made him reach the ears of many in South Africa and the neighboring countries like Mozambique and Zimbabwe.
HW Makhubele’s first recording was the famous “Kuna Nqhambi” in 1981, which was followed by yet another well-cooked album “ Mhana Sibongile” in 1982. Since then he never stopped entertaining those who loved his craft until in 2020 when he released the Mbira sound album ( for the first time in his career) titled “DJ Brian”. The album he dedicated to the radio presenter whom he believes resurrected his music career after inviting him to the studio.
