    Two quick hints, better make that three LOL. 1 Don't use bleach to kill mold, it just covers it up. Use white vinegar.... 1 Paint the wall behind your boards with a dark colour before your put the boards up. It will stop the light shining through any gaps or knot holes... 3 if you stain / whitewash your boards before you put them up, using various colours you will end up with a multi coloured wall and from there it is just a matter of going over it all with a clear coat to help seal it in..... I hope that this helps...

    It's amazing how nice these boards look when squared off and lightly sanded.

    That came out excellent. Far better than I thought it would. The colors are perfect and blend very well. That open knot hole would be a problem for me But this video is still very inspiring.

      I love the knot holes on ours, we find cool stuff to poke in them, a colored marble, an old bottle cap, etc.

    Im getting ready to do something like this and my plan is to heat up my outdoor pizza oven and give all the boards a pass through the flames , just like the torching method , to make the wood more resiliant to moisture and rot... good looking wall

    Awsome work, I just built a new home and my wife and i are planning to do this in the living room, i lucked up cause at my job we have alot of old pallets. So this is going to keep my cost down. But of course I'm going to have to invest in a table saw now haha. Never thought I would be into this kinda stuff until I bought a home.

    We decided to start bottom up for our pallet wall. We have a nice gap at the top but you can't see it on camera, so I think we got away with it haha. Great work!

    I would rip all the boards a bit so they're parallel. Then you want to add up the width of your boards and the exact height from floor to ceiling and plan out the width of your top and bottom run.
    I wouldve put a thin layer of plywood and painted with black cuz you Will have gaps eventually.

    Do you need to treat the wood in anyway if my planks have been sitting outside and have had bugs?

    • @JoshRogers
      @JoshRogers 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Typically you'd want to put these in a very large kiln to heat them up to kill everything INSIDE the wood. Most folks don't have a sea crate sized kiln though. :/

    For just a few dollars you could have put some safety plates over them wires so you didn't risk putting a nail through the electrical wire.
    Just because you can see the wires during the install and can avoid doing so, it would prevent someone later on down the road from doing so.
    Looks great though, came out awesome 👍

  • @Mrdubomb
    @Mrdubomb 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I don't see any protector plates to keep those nails from going into your wiring.
    I used old fence boards for pallet wall in my garage, looks awesome after running them through a planer.

    The fiance' bit off more than i can tolerate, tryin to do our bedroom ceiling w new pine fence planks, the 1st thing is he refuses to use any tool but his nifty ryobi cordless drill.
    , 2nd the planks dried and warped and he pulled them down to start over ...omg!
    I had no clue he had no clue....
    Wish he would watch your video and take helpul hints... is there any hope of a Carpenter Angel showing up to help our tiny place look like a comfy love nest instead of us accepting this sorta flubbed up version of "Spanky and Alfalfa's "He-Man Woman Hater's Clubhouse" "?
    I watched this video 5 mins ago after patiently watching my hero struggle with sheetrock and these fence planks for months on 2 rooms. Im sure your woman is exceptionally blessed.
    TY for this video.

    Well done. One question, why didn't you seal the wood in a poly or something similar?

    • @bradsmith1189
      @bradsmith1189 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Makes it look shiny , i always did my builds with sealing the backside of wood only. Plus dont work without gloves or you def will get little microscopic splinters . .
