    I just purchased an older boat with this same control lever. It has alot of play in it and the previous owner said the tried tightening up the set screw at the bottom but after tightening it he was unable to shift to reverse, so he left it loose. I haven't put the boat in the water but after hearing that it's making me nervous. Is there a reason why tightening the set screw would prevent it from shifting?

    • @WhitehouseFarmVet
      @WhitehouseFarmVet  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You could try to adjust the cables or make sure the cables are not hung up on something!!!! but the cables are probably stretched/seized or broken, I would take the old cables off and put new ones on especially with older boats! Let me know what you find out or decide to do! Good luck!

      It's not set all the way into the throttle body gears or whatever you call it. There are 2 sets of knuckles, and it is only catching the front part.

    Thanks for the vid. Helped me a lot! After replacing my cable and getting everything back together, I don't have to squeeze the handle to get the lever to go into forward or reverse. The part where you put the lever back in the boat is missing. Do you know if there is a certain way the cables have to be set or if- the orientation of the o-ring with the notches is situated a certain way? It was locked in neutral prior to replacing the shift cable. Anything I'm missing? TY

      @WhitehouseFarmVet  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      On the backside of the metal washer looking thing which controls the forward/reverse there are metal tabs that need to be aligned at roughly the 9 and 3 o'clock position if that's not on correctly it won't work properly you can see it in the video and I try to explain it! Hope this helps good luck and thanks for watching!

      Unfortunately I have not been able to find any other than off old used boats, this is supposed to be the upgrade for the older ones, but I have yet to install one because the ones on my boats thankfully have been good!!!!! Luckily it's on Amazon so if you can't hook it up or run into issues you can return it! Other than that I would try ebay they might have something in working order but obviously older and used! Good luck and thank you for watching! Keep me posted if you do hook up the new one!👍

    I watched the throttle disassembly video but the I needed to see how you reassembled the handle section with the round metal ring your video seemed to skip that step. Do you have a video showing that step also how to ensure the neutral position is at 12:00 when reassembling? I have an old Quicksilver 1987 throttle shifter. Thanks for your videos!

    • @WhitehouseFarmVet
      @WhitehouseFarmVet  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you watch the disassembly you can see the position of the metal washer the slot Mark's or 2 cut outs are positioned roughly 9 and 3 where on the backside are tabs that fit into holes on the base to put it in the right position, basically when you depress the handle to get it out of the locked position which is those 2 cut out Mark's it rotates from neutral to forward or reverse, it's kind of tough to explain without showing but if you watch the disassembly it goes back on the same way you took it off!

    the disc you took out at 7:40 was wrong in my boat. how exactly should that piece be put back? there is a little dimple stamped in it. should that be at 12 o'clock? I tried it like that but when I shift from forward to reverse, it doesn't stop at neutral. and when I put it all the way into reverse it locks into reverse. then I have to push the button when I take it out of reverse...does this sound right? sorry for the long comment!

    • @WhitehouseFarmVet
      @WhitehouseFarmVet  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The piece your talking about should have 2 dimples that protrude from the backside you should begin in the 12 o'clock position with shifter and those dimples should be roughly in the 11 and 5 o'clock position roughly you might be at 1 and 8 o'clock roughly reversed check for 2 dimples!! they fit in the slots you might have it upside down try turning it and make sure it fits together very easily dont force anything! It should go back together easily! Let me know how you make out! Thank you for watching!

    I'm missing that Alan set screw you took out of the bottom. My entire shifter has tons of slop/play do you think that screw would be the reason why? It kind of shakes side to side, seems like the internal parts are good, so I think its just the handle?

    • @WhitehouseFarmVet
      @WhitehouseFarmVet  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes that would definitely cause it to slop around, you can probably get one from ace hardware, true value, lowes ,homedepot, Amazon etc shouldn't cost much! Thank you for watching and good luck!👍

    • @WhitehouseFarmVet

      There are Compatible ones on Amazon but you would definitely need to measure out how long your shifting cables are to get the proper one and also the throttle controller itself for trim and trailer and any other functions your throttle has!!!
