Another beautifully presented video - it's such an imposing building to visit, even now, in its ruined state. It's amazing to see the reconstruction and move around it - and the commentary was very interesting. Thank you! 🙂
Thanks for the wonderful virtual reconstruction, which is shocking. No words, stories will not evoke even a fraction of a percent of the impressions that the image gives, and in 3D at that. I am delighted with these views, additionally synchronized with the real ruins. Super. Bravo!!!!
Superb work thank you. You imagine as it was essentially used as a law court that the "side chapels" had seated individual adjudicating magistrates with a separate Higher status (probably imperially judged) court at one end; a presiding image of the Emperor as a focal point; and an awe inspiring central circulating space. As such its design is very like that of the 19th century Royal Courts of Justice in London - another imperial era Law Court.
A truly amazing beautiful and detailed reconstruction of the Basilica of Maxentius. Thank you very much for sharing this beautiful video, must have been haw inspiring visiting the basilica in antiquity like the Pantheon. 😍
An incredible reconstruction of this magnificent building. Looking at the itinerary of Einsiedeln dating to c. 800, it's amazing that even then many of the old monuments were still standing. The Basilica of Maxentius, Temple of Venus and Roma, Temple of Jupiter Capitolinus (even with most of the roof gone), the Forum of Trajan...really puts to bed the notion that it was the Germanics who wrecked the ancient city. It was destroyed by nature (earthquakes, flooding that covered the buildings with mud)....and the Romans themselves for spolia lol.
GREAT video!! Been subbed for many years now. I absolutely LOVE how you have updated the realism!!. One note--regarding that Colossus of Constantine. Darius Aria's channel, Ancient Rome live!. has featured that statue. It's now been rebuilt with those existing fragments and 3D modeled and sculpted the lost parts and the clear distinction between the ancient and the new. It was awesome to see it rebuilt. I think it is actually going on tour- I think. Check out Ancient Rome live! . But, again, congratulations on your work!! Love it!!. ❤😊
Fantastico! Bellissima. Grazie mille. The replica huge statue of Constantine now on display at the Capitoline should be returned to it's proper place in situ in the Basilica of Maxentius. Where it belongs.
So amazing, this is probably as close as we can get to experiencing this building as it was. Do you happen to know how archaeologists were able to confirm the interior building painting patterns? Was it by chemical analysis or were there traces of pigment on the ruins as they’ve found in other buildings/ruinns? I’ve always been interested in how the insides of these public buildings appeared, especially when first hand accounts may not have been found, or directly mentioned their appearance.
I find that somehow, none of the Greco-Roman-inspired architectural styles from the Renaissance onwards really manage to capture the intricacy and majesty of the originals.
would be amazing to have these as a google earth augmented reality guide map layer during a real life city tour of the remaining sites as they stand today
Excellent study and great visuals. I wonder though what the building was used for? If the giant statue of Constantine came from reused elements, which 2nd emperors were they?
@@historyin3d I’m just teasing - I love and appreciate all of your work! I’ve stood before the colossal head of Constantine there at the Palazzo, and it left a deep impression on me.
Thank you so much Danila! This is absolutely fabulous. Those reconstructions and your commentaries make Rome so much more interesting to visit.
You're so welcome!
Mind boggling....the sophistication of the architects and builders.....

Rebuild it!
If you have never read the book "Quo Vadis" by Henryk Sienkiewicz, I highly recommend it. It gives a very authentic picture of Nero's Rome.
I hope after we die we're given time to ghost around a bit to see all these marvels in their prime.
Would ne nice!
Which are your sources for the reconstruction? Which books do you use as a source?
Great video!
Thanks for everything!
Thanks!
Many books and sources)) Please check Instagram and Fb publics, I've posted about this several months ago.
Could you please put in proper subtitles in the future?
What would they have put inside the building? Lots of open space
official meetings, courts etc.
Please, I also have some beautiful videos of Basilica. Thanks for sharing
Were the giant windows at the clere story at the roof filled with glass?
Glass/ivory.
some of the Roman buildings should be rebuilt for real
Sic transit gloria mundi. I wonder if anyone will be left to explore the ruins our own civilization will leave behind?
Who knows))
Ah yes, the Basilica of St. Constantine the Great.
And the Basilica Nova - one more it's ancient name.
