It feels like a stroke of genius to have an architect explain a religious object. I love the precise, incisively illustrated description of the difference between an ellipse and an oval.

I don't speak Latin or Italian but I would still watch a video with Manuel narrating in Latin or Italian. Expanding an already impressive rare bilingual TH-cam channel.

Your content is incredible; a treasure trove to those of us who love history and architecture. Thank you! Please consider doing a video (perhaps two parts) on the contributions of each of St. Peter’s architects: Bernardo Rossellino, Giuliano da Sangallo, Bramante, Raffaello Sanzio, Giovanni Giocondo, Antonio da Sangallo il Giovane, Baldassarre Peruzzi, Michelangelo Buonarroti, Domenico Fontana, Giacomo Della Porta, Jacopo Barozzi da Vignola, Pirro Ligorio, Carlo Maderno, Gian Lorenzo Bernini and Francesco Borromini.

Another fantastic video, thanks so much! Just got back from a week in Rome - saw Bernini's surprisingly modest tombstone on the floor of the Santa Maria Maggiore church, and I was quite moved. Said a little prayer for him and thanked him for all the lovely architecture he left to the world.

I've been to Bernini's tomb too-it’s definitely humbling to see such a modest resting place for someone who left such a monumental legacy. It’s always a special moment to pay tribute to his incredible contributions to architecture.

@manuelbravo - one reason why Emperor Constantine may have converted was due to the prior conversion of his mother St. Helena. But unfortunately for the Christians, he was actually baptized by Eusebius of Nicomedia, the ex-Christian bishop of Nicomedia, who had embraced the Arian religion, and beginning with his son Constantius, the Arian emperors, who reigned until Valens was succeeded by Theodosius, a Christian, did persecute Christian bishops like St. Athanasius. The difference between Arianism and Christianity is on display in Ravenna, where there survives an Arian baptistry and a Christian baptistry, with differences in iconography which highlight the theological difference. I would love to see a video by you covering Ravenna. ❤

Thanks for your very informative videos!
One feedback about the sound design: every time there is no speech, the music volume goes up significantly. This is, in my view, more disturbing than helping, especially in the instances in which the speech pause lasts for a very short time.
I would simply keep the music at the same volume throughout the video, since it automatically becomes more present in the instances in which you are silent.
    Keep up the good work!

Piazza di Santa Francesca Romana. The Forum, Arch of Constantine and the Coliseum all surround it. So maybe the Piazza itself is not my favourite in and of itself, but the spot and the treasure around it.
Piazza del Popolo by itself is the most beautiful. Particularly from viewing spot at the garden above and to the east of the square.
Thank you for the video. Very beautiful.😊

One thing the architects building St. Peter's didn't succeed is conveying the truly epic size of the place. Everything is well proportioned, based on squares, circles and golden ratio, because of this it's difficult to get a sense of scale of each pillar and statue.

I remember someone saying the oval colonnade/columns were designed, by Bernini, to represent "The arms of the church, welcoming the masses." Is this statement true? Thank you for this. Wouldn't other possible reasons for the construction of the "new" St. Peter's Basilica and Square be the fall of Constantinople and loss of the major church Hagia Sophia (converted to a mosque in 1453), as well as the beginnings of the Protestant Reformation? The Church needed to assert its power.

    • @ManuelBravo
