Fibrotic Myopathy in Two Gaited Horses -Gaited Horse Training

Fibrotic Myopathy is a mechanical lameness due to scarring in the hamstring of the hind leg. It is not painful. Due to the scarring the horse has a classic gait abnormality where it slaps its hind foot down due to the shorten stride. I have seen this in a couple gaited horses and wanted to share. It is usually due to a tear in the hamstring from an injury but there are some congenital cases. They do improve but it never goes completely away. But you can treat it with rehab, stretches and strengthening and possibly surgery to release the scar tissue.

Yes it cannot reach as far since the area is scarred in, so the step is much shorter.
