She’s the only artist who’s had a hit in the top ten in every decade for 60 years. She was 52 in that hat video. She pioneered that autotune effect in pop.

Cher was 52 when this came out. She'd proven her talent over and over again in the music industry, by breezing through all different types of styles of music in that time.

This song came out when auto-tune was very new with the effects and no one was doing it much.
When this came out, it was an immediate bop. We would squeal and run to the dance floor.
The lyrics are meant to empower anyone after a breakup or a doomed relationship.
This is Cher's style. She is all about survival. This was in the Britney, NSYNC, Christina debut era. Cher was like hold my beer bitches.
She has had a #1 single on a Billboard chart in SEVEN consecutive decades.
She has won Emmy, Grammy and Oscar. I am sure if she did Broadway, she would get a Tony.

Pop, rock, disco, country, standards, she's done it all. She first hit in 1965. She was 52 when "Believe" hit #1, setting the record for the oldest female singer to hit #1. And it also set the record for longest span between first and most recent #1's for an artist, 33 years and 7 months.

Wikipedia-Believe" is an upbeat dance-pop and electropop song and departed from Cher's previous music. It featured a pioneering use of the audio processing software Auto-Tune to distort her vocals, which was widely imitated and became known as the "Cher effect". The lyrics describe empowerment and self-sufficiency after a painful breakup. "Believe" received positive reviews; critics praised its production and catchiness, with some deeming it a highlight from the album. The song has been listed as one of Cher's most important releases. At the 42nd Annual Grammy Awards, it was nominated for Record of the Year and won Best Dance Recording, the first and only Grammy Award that Cher has won.

Cher began her career as a teen when she met Sonny Bono, and they performed as "Sonny and Cher." The two famous hits from that era are "I got You, Babe," and "The Beat goes on." They hosted a variety show in the 70's, full of silly comedy and guest appearances. The whole country watched every week. Cher caused "controversy" by showing her belly button on TV and by naming their only child "Chastity" -- a name fairly common now but skirting the edge of social acceptability at the time. ("Chastity" has since become a trans male, known as Chaz Bono.) After her divorce from Sonny, Cher had a solo show for a few years. Cher is also an actress, and won a "best actress" Academy Award for her great movie "Moonstruck. She's incredibly versatile. She's an icon. She's an activist for Human Rights issues. Heck, I didn't even know I knew this much interesting stuff about Cher... lol

Cher is one of those artists that transcends time. She's been at it for over 50 years and still going strong. What I love about this song is that it is perfect for those who are going through a tough breakup because it tells them that there is life after love. I know that Cher's music has helped me through a lot of heartbreak over the years.

But I think you should listen to Cher's first time singing non backup, and SOLO (with a little help from Sonny because she was so nervous) and it just happens to be their first song! The song is called 'BABY DON'T GO'! It is absolutely one of my favorites from them. And in my mind better than 'I got you babe'. Baby don't go!! Peace out people...

As far as I can remember, this is the song that first used auto-tune to this crazy amount. It started it all. Auto-tune had been used to hide issues but never as a creative choice.
