... Shake The Disease Precious Strange Love Personal Jesus Everything Counts BlasphemousRumors Never Let Me Down World In My Eyes Don't Say You Love Me Master & Servant
Simple but powerful - so glad you were into it. A lot of their themes are BDSM influenced…I think you would really enjoy “Never Let Me Down Again”. As you stated in your review, you can’t really have pleasure without pain.
UGHHH "Useless" I adore that song and people don't give that one its props too much all these years later. Something about the song paired with the video...I remain convinced it's a breakup song for Alan.
I just found your reaction videos I went down the rabbit hole and watched you for 3 hours. You are one of the few who can pick a song apart, so it is good to watch. I'm 65 and glad I got to see most of the real bands live the music today sucks rock shows were like an adventure...the whole band had to put on a show!!
Depeche mode is the bomb. I always took the lyric line: Vows are broken...to be broken... Is more intended to mean my much the same as 'Never say never'. That by vowing anything is potentially setting yourself up for a major failure whether intentionally or because of unforeseen events, unknown circumstances, etc. that are beyond control... But, as a GenXer that usually listened to rock, Depeche Mode was one of the non rock more new wave type bands that imo were and still are awesome!
My favourite band of all time. You nailed the pronunciation! This band has so many different styles across their 40+ year career. Try Home, Stripped, Blasphemous Rumours, Before We Drown, Everything Counts. Also well worth checking out a live rendition. The Berlin live performance of this song is great.
Ooh I like your taste. Funny thing though, I am convinced Martin keeps the truly best songs for himself. Between "Home," "Somebody," "A Question of Lust"...just a pet theory. ;)
@@reanimatedI think he used to. For me, 21st Century Martin’s sung songs are some of my least favourite on each album, and the ones Dave has written tend to be my favourites (Speak To Me, Before We Drown, Cover Me, Broken, Should Be Higher, Come Back, Suffer Well, Nothing’s Impossible)
They've got a lot of stuff for you to discover. I recommend »Never let me down again«, »World in my eyes«, »I feel you«, »Stripped« and »People are People«. Because this band put so much attention to sound design you should listen to the studio versions first.
Gotta check out the live version from their concert in Berlin - absolutely amazing!!!! DM is an amazing rabbit hole to explore. Been a fan since their first album dropped in 1981 when I was 13, and it’s been an incredible journey watching their evolution from burgeoning synth pop artists into the electronica icons they now are. RIP Fletch, you are loved and missed. Suggestions that are conceptual? Try Fly on the Windscreen; Never Let Me Down Again; Master and Servant; Everything Counts (from 101 - live at the Rose Bowl 1988); Behind the Wheel; Personal Jesus; Leave in Silence; World in My Eyes; Black Celebration; Policy of Truth; A Question of Time; I Feel You.
Depeche Mode is a deep rabbit hole you’d be happy to fall down, but you MUST watch them live! This track, live in Berlin, or Never Let Me Down Again (in Paris I believe? They’re not hard to find) -you must see the live versions. Hands down, DM is one of the best live acts EVER (and I swear I’m not just saying that bc they’re one of my favorite bands). Lead singer Dave Gahan has been compared to Freddie Mercury bc of his stage presence and ability to keep the audience in the palm of his hand the whole time. (The other original member still remaining, Martin Gore, is the main songwriter.) They’re still filling arenas and stadiums in their early sixties, and still somehow just as energetic-I FINALLY got to see them live in 2023 and was blown away by how good they still are. Best concert I’ve ever been to.
@ I definitely agree, but also think he should watch the videos as well. As soon as they started working with Anton Corbijn they truly found their “brand,” so to speak.
That tour was a blast! But damn yo, people were losing it when they put up some screens of Fletch, so soon after his passing. In other news, I'm still haunted (in the good way) by their duet on "Waiting For the Night" during that show.
Live performances of their songs, in my opinion, are the best....... even their recent performances. They are still as entertaining in 2024. Yes, still touring with HUGE crowds forty years later. Here's 35 years of their live performance (pieced together) of Never Let Me Down Again. You can see that they still are great. th-cam.com/video/RvsKdfvInU0/w-d-xo.html
To me, this song feels like being outside alone and just breathing the fresh air without all the voices of the world crashing in on you. The beat is even a walking pace. The relationship bit also applies, obviously, but when this comes on, I just want to go for a nice solitary walk. Alone, but not lonely.
Hi Shon.. keep moving man!...Remember Depeche Mode back in the 80s . Bought their first album "Speak and Spell" It was early days of the Synth and Depeche Mode were one of the very best. One of the few early Bristih bands of the 80s who cracked America and became a global supergroup. Went to see them in Birmingham UK back in the mid 80s...happy days. Martin Gore such a talent and innovative combined with Dave Gahan's all round frontman performances, a real genuine show-off! was perfect. I think this single was voted best single in the UK in 1990. Plenty of DM songs to delve into Shon. Nice reaction
Nice choice, lad. They're my fave, so, there's so much to say, I can't even try. Martin Gore is the guitar player and the genius behind the band. He did most of the writing till he finally got over himself and let Dave Gahan, the singer write some stuff too, and now they're better than ever. And boy, do bands love to cover their stuff. Everybody from Lacuna Coil to Susan Boyle (sorry about the rhyme) have covered this song with good reason. By all means, give "Personal Jesus" a listen (and boy, has THAT been covered. The Johnny Cash cover is necessary. The Marilyn Manson version should be heard, too.) but you can throw a dart and hit a great song. You'll love this band. Rock on, young man!
"Never Let Me Down Again", "Personal Jesus", "Master and Servant", "Sacred", "Pleasure Little Treasure", "New Life" for starters. One of their earliest I love is "Photographic" but it is of it's time, they're so young and synthpop was so new, but it shows the early promise of the band.
I wish I could hear this again for the first time like this haha. It's fantastic, but they have soooo many other exquisite songs, particularly from the 80s, a few of which are even better than this one IMO.
*Photographic, live in Hamburg & *Just can´t get enough, but yes, Never let me down again(maybe live in Paris) - you have to see them LIVE, Dave is a beast on stage !!!
The band's name is taken after a fashion magazine that was published from the 70s to 2001. /de.'peʃ/ /mod/ "De" as in delicate, "peʃ" as in pet but adding the"sch" sound as in rubbish. This song, initially, was meant as a downtempo without drums and it was about the silences in between the notes of a composition. Martin Gore: "It's just about a feeling of not wanting anything else, feeling totally satisfied, and even the words and everything seem an intrusion. You don't need anything else, you're totally happy. It's a nice song, it's nice, that's a way to put it, it's nice." One of the founders of this band was VINCE CLARK who left them to form the duo YAZOO (pure eighties synth sound) and ERASURE . The band that they looked at was ORCHESTRAL MANOEUVRES IN THE DARK (OMD). Yazoo songs: Don't go - Situation - Only You Erasure: Sometimes - Ship Of Fools - Oh L'Amour OMD: Joan Of Arc (Maid Of Orleans) - Souvenir - Enola Gay - Bauhaus Staircase...
The word and meaning are so deep when you really listen to them. And how many outro's build and layer so much without getting softer and quieter on the end. Great song and a great reaction.
One song by Depeche Mode that you should definitely check out is Blasphemous Rumours. I'm not sure if you want to do a video about it since it's one of their more polarizing songs but I really think you'll appreciate the ... feeling behind the lyrics.
Check out any of the songs from their Violator album. Top tier album, one of the best albums of all time from an audio mixing perspective. Maybe "Policy of Truth" is a good song to start with, great lyrics!
MY MAN. I had to click through instantaneously, and it's a like before I even hit play. One of my very favorite bands of all time, ALL TIME. I've seen them perform several times over the years, and they slay, so do check out some live videos if you get the chance, and I'd really encourage you to go all the way back to Depeche Mode 101 for something there. I've been a huge fan of theirs since...well, since this album, really, like 3/4 of my life ago, middle school baybee. And then I worked backwards from there and moved forward too. This album, "Violator," is No Skips. I miss Alan being in the group. I did get to meet him at one of his own shows apart from DM years ago, with Recoil. He gives amazing hugs and my inner young teen was thrilled. And finally: RIP Fletch!
I speak French and your pronunciation is perfect!! That's just one of the reasons I love your videos so much. You go the extra mile to lean how to properly pronounce the names!!🧡🧡
Oh man,, you should have watched the video that was live from Berlin! That's what all the other reaction vloggers watch lol Anyway, glad you liked this one! They're amazing and you should definitely check out more of their music! They have 15 studio albums!

One of their best songs for me is Blasphemous Rumors from their album Some Great Reward. If you do the reaction please run it all the way to the end. Also. Thank you for picking the studio version. Depeche Mode uses a lot of sounds that are never recreated in live performances.

yesss people are people sooo fitting for today
Depeche Mode “People are People”. A song with such an obvious message, but people still need to be reminded.

Maaannnnn, I love this timeless gem so dang much - I'm glad you covered it and nice job doing so

A great UK group.
You need to react to “Personal Jesus” next. 😀

Great band, great reaction! Try "Policy of truth" or "Never let me down". 2 more bangers from Depeche Mode 🙂👍
Depeche Mode is a top 3 band of the last 40 years.
They are amazing live , i see Depeche Mode last yer and they are soou amazing ❤
Classic! Their song Personal Jesus is just a banger.
Depeche mode is the bomb. I always took the lyric line: Vows are broken...to be broken... Is more intended to mean my much the same as 'Never say never'. I was really into Depeche Mode back in the day. I saw them in concert in 1990 when they were touring in support of this album.
Those musical interludes are the sound of the 80s to me
