A LOOK INSIDE BERLIN'S DISUSED INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

  • What is up guys!? For this video we decided to head over to an abandoned airport in Berlin called Templehof! So for a bit of history,
    Tempelhof was designated as an airport on 8 October 1923, whilst it was originally built in the early 1900s. The Nazi government began a massive reconstruction in the mid-1930s, giving it the status of being one of the top 20 largest buildings in the world.
    Tempelhof Airport closed all operations on 30 October 2008. It is now largely derelict, but some parts are used to house refugees, and the field is used for recreation. Obviously in this video, I went to explore the parts that are no longer in use...
    Anyway guys, hope you enjoy! Sorry the video is late, also apologies for the poor filming. We had to get in via a tour, so didn't have much time in the building.
    UPDATE: TH-cam having some problems and has messed up the audio! You can skip about 2 minutes in and it is fine, issue should be sorted in the next few hours. Sorry!

    I see Berlin themperholf Germany airport years 1940s-2008 this airport can handle over 800,000 passagers. At first it was used as a war airport only could handle 10,000 miltaryians at a time.it will take 60 seconds for it to land. In the 50s it was not a war airport anymore due from no wars ever happening. Laws and rights were made for no more wars in the earth.in 1980 it extend a little bit with a basketball crout,more rooms.it closed in 2008 due from the lack of tavrelers. So they had to open a new themperholf/international airport. It was completed in 2009 and could handle 1,000,000 people inside. Now the empty airport is used for tours to see a empty closed airport.😌

      The berling city planners did not make alot of sense bescause why build a bigger airport if you can not even fill the smaller airport you already have ? secondly this airport could be used for many purposes such as a airport museum what a waste

    To stop any further confusions, the (found plane) in the title refers to the one at 11:33, not the first one we see.
    Also... I know its a tour! I mentioned it at the beginning of the video. There is no way of possibly sneaking into this building, a tour is the only way in.

There used to be a punching bag hanging in one of the corners of the gym that we used as "exercise" aka stress relief😁

      King Of Bongo- Urban Exploring
      I did. In the late 80s and early 90s.
      We used to access the tunnels through a hole in a back wall in one the basement store rooms.
      The deepest we went was 4 or 5 levels below street level (hard to tell when you're down there). I've heard others made it down 7 levels and there were rumored to be more.
      On tunnel extended under the airfield and was supposed to end at an old concentration camp during the war, but it had been walled up at the fence line by the time i got there.
      Wish I'd taken pictures i could share. Lot of weird stuff down there.

    • @Seeker43
      @Seeker43 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      As a BCE electrician, there werent many places i have not been in that facility. The German side was walled off midway the building. There are tunnels that extend out to the aircraft ramp and the UBahn station, etc.

    • @andrewaustin6369
      @andrewaustin6369 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The tunnels underground were used in WWII to manufacture and repair fighter aircraft and at the end of the war there were quite a few still down there have no idea about now but given how extensive the tunnel system is I wouldn't be surprised.

      Maybe I should go back, is it true theres a tunnel system underneath it?

    • @georgewolfe6267
      @georgewolfe6267 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      YES! The underground is a maze of tunnels. When I was there several of us "explored" the tunnels. They were quite interesting! The building is 6 stories high (if memory serves me) and there are 5 levels of "basement". About 3 levels are flooded (At the end of WWII the Germans hid there. The Soviets decided that it was better to flood the tunnels than to continue hand to hand combat. So the tunnels were flooded. There was an aircraft assembly plant underground. Planes were built there and flown out from Templehof. The Germans were genius st this design! There are still many interesting things to see underground - much from WWII.Today there is a "Tunnel Tour" offered, but from my understanding it is not much. We took the Templehof tour (about 4 years ago) that is offered today and were VERY disappointed in it. It just barely skims the surface of Templehof. This building and it's history are fascinating!

      Its in Berlin, Germany. Built early 1900s but extended by the Nazis, became one of the largest buildings in the world. Closed as a new airport opened, in 2008, I believe. Not derelict but open for tours, and one wing is used to house refugees :)

      according to my internet research it is now open for public as one of the largest parks in the world. Germans sure knew how to build quality buildings and keep them looking brand-new even after they become useless. You can look it up - it is called Berlin Tempelhof Airport and even got a website www.thf-berlin.de/en/

    • @KingOfBongoo
      @KingOfBongoo  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Only the airfield is open to the public, the main building is heavily secured and only accessible by pre booked tours :)
