So uh...that Salieri bit was just kinda...wrong ?
In real life, Salieri was Mozart's mentor and friend, and not exactly as much of a rival, and even in Fate universe they were friends.
It was because of the bad rumours of Salieri secretly murdered Mozart out of jealousy that caused Salieri to be inflicted with Innocent Monster (a trait that basically caused people's rumours (good or bad) to affect the servants in ways when they were summoned, Hans had it the worst where he had mermaid scales and his feet felt like burning and he was stuck in his child form). In Salieri's case, it caused his servant form to have a weird hate boner and jealousy for Mozart because everyone thought he was jealous of him.

    > 15:11 "They burned (Jeanne) because she was too good at war."
Uh, no. Not actually true. Jeanne was far from infallible, and had no particular skill at war to speak of, being more an advisor and inspirational bannerwoman than traditional military commander. She made some good calls, but also participated in several failed sieges, was captured by Burgundians, and the English paid for her to be delivered to them. She was burned for being a heretic, not for being a witch. (And, yes, also for morale reasons, but she was still quite young and inexperienced.)
    > 19:29 "Oda Nobunaga was the first to use guns"
I... don't believe that's true? He had lots of guns, yes. He promoted them. He was known for his "three line formation", a formation for use with the rifles used at the time. But the first? In Japan? Not sure I agree. If nothing else, he wasn't near any of the ports, so they came through other regions first. For example, he's known to have destroyed the Takeda cavalry because of his three line formation... but the Takeda also had guns, just less, and used less effectively.
    31:30 - Ivan the Terrible
Uh, actually, he was pretty terrible. He may have suffered mental illness. He was also pretty ruthless.
    39:20 - "Along those gears."
    Those are movie reels.

I know it's been a month but Jeanne actually did have one specific thing that made her really good at war...
She recognized the power of CANNONS.
She fucking LOVED cannons and blowing shit up with them, and she was really, really good at it too. She was said to very much be incredibly interested in learning about war and she was no worse than the average French commander at the time, and considering her handicaps, that's actually pretty damn good.
Weirdly in Fate she's portrayed as a pacifist who wouldn't even draw her sword... which makes some degree of sense, why use a sword when you can blow people up from farther away than they can see.

    • @AusSP
      @AusSP 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

@@bananaslamma35 Not personally familiar with it. It's briefly mentioned on Wikipedia, so I assume it's relatively believable. "No worse than the average French commander" isn't high praise, and leaves a lot of room for hurt pride against "peasant upstarts".
I'm perfectly willing to accept "passionate inexperienced artillery officer" over "too good at war".
As for the pacifist thing... Fate, uh... doesn't really give me that impression? It's been a long time since Apocrypha, but between Jack, her treatment of Gilles, and her appearances in Extella, FGO and SR... she doesn't seem very pacifist. Beat people with blunt force, though, very much.

    • @bananaslamma35
      @bananaslamma35 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Hey, for someone who literally didn't even know how to read when she started doing the war thing, no worse than experienced commanders isn't bad. Especially since the history that wrote the French commanders as being totally useless... is anglocentrist propaganda. If they were hyperincompetent and bad and terrible at everything, the war wouldn't have lasted, they'd just have lost and been conquered.
Obviously they weren't good enough to kick the English back to their lands, but the idea that they were like headless chickens is very much propaganda.
Jeanne was never 'too good at war', but she was young and she wasn't set in her ways, which allowed her to adapt to the gamechanger that was cannons which older commanders couldn't do. It doesn't take one being some super ultra genius at war, just the fresh perspective tempered by the skill and experience of the older commanders that can put her radical ideas into play in a functional fashion would be enough. Turns out blowing shit up with cannons really was the best idea.
      As for pacifism...
There's this misconception, because of really badly written pacifists in popular media, that a pacifist will never fight or will never engage in combat, and will actively stick rigidly to their pacifistic ways even when it is very visibly a bad thing to do so.
But being a pacifist who wishes for and tries to enforce peace doesn't mean you just stand there and let a warmonger do what he wants. Oxymoronic as it sounds, she's willing to fight for peace.
Think less of the "I'll stand by and watch as villains do whatever they want while looking on disapprovingly" kind of pacifist, and more of the "I will bonk you with my flagpole if you don't stop being an evil warmonger" kind of pacifist.
Her treatment of Gilles? She likes him. Yes, she pokes his eyes, but that's because they bug out of his skull so she has to put them back in. She'd also willingly forgive him if he were to prostrate himself and beg forgiveness... or rather, tell him to ask God for that, but you get the point.
She exorcises Jack, yes. But she's also perfectly willing to work alongside her and treat her as a normal child in FGO.
Her appearance in FGO? I mean, what runs counter to her being a pacifist there? She still refuses to use La Pucelle, she won't pull out her sword, and she fights exclusively to defend others.
In Extella, she fights out of mercy and pity for Altera, and even in Extella where she's willing to use La Pucelle on command, she refuses to actually draw her sword (she bonks people with the sheathes sword though) and literally everything she fights in Extella are either her fellow servants, or basic bitch AI programs with no feelings or emotions.

    • @AusSP
      @AusSP 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@bananaslamma35 I'm not sure I agree with your definition of pacifism. Yes, real pacifists are absolutely allowed to defend themselves... but going into battle to beat people with blunt instruments isn't exactly self-defense. And it's a Pike. It's good for stabbing people.
Yes, violence is Jeanne's last resort, but she is willing to kill when it serves her purpose, which seems like a fairly standard perspective, rather than pacifistic. (If anything, that's kind of the point of the Jeanne vs Amakusa debate, isn't it? That Amakusa wants to save people now, because lives are important, where Jeanne is prioritizing the species mental and spiritual health over the lives of every individual person. But, again, it's been a long time since I watched Apocrypha, and I feel like the anime was relatively fuzzy on that point. And Amakusa was certainly not a pacifist, just a numbers person.)
I recall something in FGO having Jeanne Alter point out that Jeanne is naturally violent. Her Materials point out that she's perfectly willing to escalate from arrows, to cannons, to rods from god, so she's not supposed to be against violence.
But a lot of this I'm not remembering perfectly.
And using the sword is meaningless: she doesn't use it because *she will die*. It is impossible for her to use it without dying, because it is a literal physical manifestation of her own death. She cannot unsheathe it without activating it.

11:24 Well I would rather put it as: "Sieg is modern-day homunkulus who obtained the power of Siegfried. [...]"
13:58 Nitocris was not the last Pharaoh by far (Cleopatra VII Philopator, or in other words the Cleopatra everyone knows and that was featured here) was the last Pharaoh. Nitocris story is set in the 6th dynasty of Egypt (ca. 2180 BCE - Cleopatra's Ptolemaic dynasty was by comparison the 33rd dynasty (305-30 BCE) ...). According to the story we know (there are no contemporary sources about her, only a 3rd century BCE history and maybe a fragment f from around the time of Ramses II (= Ozymandias of Greek speaking historians, 19th Dynasty, 1300 BCE- 1209 BCE) of text that might mention her, but it is questionable and might be just a part of a byname for another king from the 6th Dynasty) she was the last Pharaoh of the 6th dynasty and avenged her brother after a short reign.

That Liz question was incredibly funny cause all answers are correct. Baobhan *is* Liz in almost all ways(physically she is Liz, personality she is very similar), and Carmilla is Liz just older.
Also, sad note about the real Elizabeth Bathory, realistically as far as anyone can tell, her being a killer is a rumor started because the nobles didnt like that a woman was the most powerful person around. So she was killed out of jealousy, and then they dragged her name through the mud.

Also, interesting note about Da Vinci, historically, there is actual evidence to suggest he was indeed trans. Da Vinci chose to manifest as the Mona Lisa not because "I wanna be a hot babe", but because he considered the Mona Lisa to be the most beautiful and perfect human form. Also, the original Mona Lisa was likely a self portrait.

About Edison and the multifaceted interpretation of why he's been designed and represented this way:
First, the lights on his shoulders in his second ascension and his seemingly multi-colored cape, which are actually movie reels, are just references to the inventions produced by his company: the lightbulb and, well, motion picture projectors, ala movie film reels (technically speaking, modern electrical film projector systems).
Second, the lions head, just like the Fox theme and logo played in his NP, are references to companies that emerged as a result of Edison's thug activities; Edison, being credited as the inventor of the modern movie theater, and for 5 cents, you can be sat in a crowd of chairs and witness the world's first cat videos (adding story to motion pictures was not a concept explored by Edison, so he essentially made the first set of TH-cam poops, before it was cool). Eventually, a small rival start up company encroached on Edisons turf, making their own movies and theaters at a competing price. Because enforcement against monopolies existed only in the Constitution and not in the standard practices in law at the time, Edison impugned himself to rid himself of his competition: he sent thugs to destroy these rival theaters (just as he would do to other small time inventors who wouldn't share their patent ideas with his company), and also beat up some of their patrons, all to drive business back into Edison branded theaters. Other means also included burning the rogue production theaters to the ground, effectively inventing the movie theater fire. Eventually, the people running these theaters would move out to the west coast of the US and founded their own companies that survived today: CBSFox (later divided to CBS and Fox) and MGM theater productions, whose logo is the roaring lion before every James Bond movie... As well as any other movie MGM makes. Incidentally, the name of the old small 5 cent movie theaters were referred to as "nickelodeons" (yes, that Nickelodeon is a reference to those).
The other reason for the lion head design is more of a historical based head canon; Edison was more or less a gladiator of the legal arena as much as an actual inventor. Much of his early career with his company, the Edison Trust Inc. consisted of him inside of courtrooms due to the fact that smalltime inventors all believed he infringed on their patents/stole their not-yet patented ideas, for his own products (mostly correct), all the while contributing to his infamous temperament towards the idea of him having competition. One famous incident occurred when his attorney was running late to court. The judge was about to make rulings against the defendant, Edison, for his attorney's tardiness, prompting Edison to stand up and submit the opening argument. He had been in and out of the courtroom with the same attorney so often, he memorized the argument his counsel used, verbatim. When he concluded, his attorney had arrived, and while Edison's counsel was admonished for lateness, Edison's presentation successfully set the tone for the rest of that trial, earning him the victory and he prevailed. From then on, Edison always gave the opening arguments in his trial cases.
Finally, about that costume he wears; this is where we really diverge from historical depiction and into Edison as a Type-Moon OC, spoiler alert. The 5th singularity, "E pluribus unum", in 1776 ad, America has been invaded by the Celts, who executed all of America's founding fathers. Summoned by the Grail, Edison materializes in his form as not just Edison, but also as every US president, past and future (this is the main reason for the foreseeable future that we'll probably never see an actual US president as an independent heroic spirit), effectively making him the King of Presidents.

Carmilla's just Elizabeth's actual grown self combined with a vampire story that was based on her, hence her being summoned as one despite her younger self not being one nor historically being one.
Da Vinci is just typical servant shenanigans. Myths and beliefs can play a factor in a servant outside of what the thing/person was in actuality. With Da Vinci the servant gets the best representation of perfection. Mona Lisa as a container, Da Vinci's memories, combination of Da Vinci's actual genius and skills mixed with humanity's perceptions. Not just Leonardo Da Vinci changed into the Mona Lisa, but Mona Lisa with varying things Da Vinci fused in. SImilar to, but different from, Clytie Van Gogh. Basically, perfection personified but it pulls from mostly things related to Da Vinci.

31:45 Fact check kinda semi-false. Ivan the Terrible was Ivan IV from his line of succession. He was the first Russian ruler, who had his title changed from grand duke into Tsar, though. Also, fun fact title "Tsar" was a russified version of Roman title "Caesar" (because latin "c" can also be read as "ts" sound, albeit very rarely) and meant pretty much "Emperor". And "Terrible" part is a bit of a bad translation case. It should be either "Terrifying" (if you wanna keep the theme) or "Formidable/rampant" (if you wanna be more historically accurate).

really love this one. most "made people not into fate guess servants" is just showing them a portait and maybe a handful of clues and making them guess who it is, and they're generally not that great, simply because people often have no clue about the people they represent in the first place or guessing from the portrait is BS. this format of giving the name and having them pick between 3 pictures each of which would be a likely candidate, however, works really well, and gotta say some of your choices for alternate possibilities are just evil, in the best way

So slight correction to the story of Saint Martha, she didn't slay a dragon later in life. She did the way crazier thing, and tamed it, kept it as a pet and converted it to Christianity. Also said dragon was the Terrasque as in this is the story that DnD took the name of its famous kaiju monster from.

I also love how she tries to be a holy woman, but she's just a thug

I wanted to bring up a point about Edison that was missed out on, which is a shame since the implications are super funny, is that he wears a mystic code which is effectively a combination of every US president. As you can imagine, implementations be very funny

bro the quiz was fun but a little obvious in some aspects, for example:
    Who was this?:
    A- (wrong answer)
    B- (correct answer)
    C- (wrong answer).
And the explinations where like this:
    A- basically (2 or 3 words)
B- (2 or 3 paragraphs with important and not important details about the character)
    C- in a nutshell (1 or 2 words)
Anyway other than that I liked this

I like the fact that you used two hungarian characters.
Despite Attila not looking like Attila at all.
Edit: Okay yeah, Elizabeth is a vampire demon girl now. WoW

So I’m only on the first real question and I’ve got some misgivings. Using evil King Arthur and sieg an anime only character is dipping too war into the ‘gotcha’ territory with trying to trick people who already don’t have a basis for fate. This is something I’d expect in a part 2 after they were a little more familiar with things. I’ll have to see as the video continues.

Yeah, I like to say this to all videos like this one.
The Fate series does a terrible job depicting historical or mythological characters.
I am sure it is on purpose. They make great designs, but barely any can be recognized by design.
They create a great design and pick a name from Google, this is what it seems like.
