I had the RR15 at the distillery this summer. A week later, VABC dropped it. Grabbed a bottle and was very excited. I was shocked by had bad mine is. Friends got bottles from different stores with a slightly different laser code. Theirs are excellent like what I had at the distillery.
@@dsharton yep, Glenns Creek is just a short drive past Castle & Key. I didn’t know that and would have stopped at Castle & Key if I had known and had more time.
Just had to pull the trigger and get the RR 15 at $400. Considering what people are paying for BTAC and LE bottles, there were just to many great reviews not to try this. Going to blind it with the family against Stagg 23B, Michters 10yr, four gate KC 6 and 2005 wild turkey dusty. Should be fun
Brother don’t feel bad. I also dropped $400. But when it’s like $270 msrp that’s not horrible. I’m thoroughly impressed with it. Not beating myself up at all. You’ll be happy. Lol
I've got an OCD5 and didn't really care for it at first, now halfway into the bottle I like it. The flavor is definitely different. I guess they use an actual flame under their still and I do get sort of a burnt caramel flavor from it. As you say every batch is a single barrel so they do have some variation.
I got to try an OCD #5 today for the first time after hearing you rave over it a few times. The son of the guy who owns my local go to liquor store picked up a bottle in Kentucky and let me try it. Was it worth all of David's hype? Yes, yes it was. lol. Nice burnt sugar, creme brulee, little maple flavoring on the taste. Long finish. And the nose? I could have smelled that all day long. Got to sample the New Riff single barrel store pick they are getting too. Can't wait for that to come in.
I’m interested in the OCD #5 the New Riff single Malt I’m currently drinking a local single malt from Ohio and it smells like Brownie batter and has chocolate notes. The Russell is something I’ll never see or try unless I walk into a bar that isn’t gouging you. I want pay over 30 for a 1.5 ounce pour. Enjoy!!🥃🥃🥃
I encourage you to get both the Glenn's Creek OCD#5 and the New Riff Single Malt Cask Strength 7 Year. I picked both of them up earlier this year and am scouring stores to find them again. Both are unique but impressive and interesting, AND they are about $65 each. I hear New Riff has come out with an 8 Year Single Malt now, so that should be a winner as well.
David! I’ve been quiet for a while but just attended my daughters wedding in Ashburn and we are staying in Alexandria right now, Where should I do some hunting in your area?
My dumb ass keeps passing on Huling Station--guess I gotta correct that. Visited Glenn's Creek last month and on that day I preferred the Swheat and brought a bottle home to CA.
I know batch 1 of the 13 year had older casks in the blend too (newer batches probably do as well) wonder if they decreased the ratio of older casks to save for the 15 year release ...
I like your description of the Rare Character - spot on!
OCD 5 and the K.Luke Cab Finish is what I reach for when I want a truly unique pour.

I just got a bottle of OCD #5 last week at their distillery. Very good and the distillery is way off the beaten path. Very nice folks too.
If you’re going to Castle and Key, it’s way too easy to visit OCD

Thanks for these types of reviews. Enjoying learning about unusual but good pours.
Glad you like them! Appreciate the feedback

Got a RR 15 a couple of weeks ago for $245. Maybe open it for Christmas.

This video is wanting me to make some road trips. We are under 4 hrs to Glynn’s Creek, and anxious to visit the Bourbon Trail and Jack Daniels again.

Had the Russell 15 at a bourbon bar. One my top 5. Maybe better than single rickhouse. Excellant pour

Thanks for saving me money. I was going to try to get the Russell's 13 year.

Great comment! I am always referring to myself as "my dumb ass"! I have a couple of friends who don't like that, but I know it's true!
I have a store pick of that Rare Character. Haven’t opened it yet. I’m a sucker for anything maple finished. 😂

Awesome video!!
Ugh...!!! Every time someone tells me Russell's 15 year is so good I get so pissed off! Got screwed by their shitty web site TWICE!
😅
David you Killed it!!
