    thanks for the tip on the f250 rear swaybar links. your jeep is awesome and done very well.
    another tip: 1995 YJ brake lines are a direct swap front and rear and are 3-4" longer than stock XJ brake lines.

    i gotta say--- thanks for this very informative video,
    i picked one of those 3.5 spring/shock kits off the internet, i developed death wobble, i have spent several months reading forums and watching videos, what i didint see a single person mention was the axle moving over towards the driver side, something i should have thought about, but didnt even dawn on me.
    now i think the next part i buy is gonna be an adjustable track bar, then ill eventually add the longarms etc.

      carolina beachin almost always Track bar. Plumb bob your axle to ensure its centered.

    You can fix the stock rear shocks, 1 use the rear sway bar mount as the upper shock mount, then 2nd re drill the bottom hole for about 4" extra droop...

    Great video love ones like this explaining what exactly to hunt for in a junk yard. Ignore the people getting hung up on your "thousands" remark. Good quality long arm kits all start between $2k and $2.5k I knew exactly what you meant. Your video is a great example of an actual well put together but still budget setup. Well done :)

    The Jeep looks good-- I just picked up a winter vehicle, 1996 Cherokee just like this one. I plan on turning it into a summer adventure vehicle/camper style thing.. so looking for quick inspiration. I am thinking a budget 3" lift, with some 31's with some trimming. 33's if they will fit.
    I had a 1998 Cherokee with a 6.5" lift with 35's.. but with that amount of lift I had to fiddle with the driveshaft, and the slip-yoke in the transfer-case. I wanna keep this one a little bit more street-able.
    Overall-- I think this is a very respectable Cherokee. It has been my favorite vehicle ever since I was a kid. My current one, is the.. fourth I've owned.

    My local junkyard freaking sucks. I wanted to get another leaf pack off an S-10 to make a bastard pack for mine the other day. They wanted $45 a piece, $90 for a set of old rusty ass worn out leafs off a wrecked S-10. They wanted $45 for the little black plastic that goes around the headlight also and $55 for the dash bezel.

    • @GaryBriggs3
      @GaryBriggs3  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      when the price of scrap steel goes up, the junkyards raise their prices. Call shops that install lift and lowering kits. They always have a pile of springs stashed somewhere, usually can be had on the cheap.

    I have a 1998 Jeep Cherokee. And would love to lift it. Here in Spokane there is more Jeep lifted. In the junk yards that's not even funny. I went to an ORV Park and fucked up my driver side shock. I called one junkyard and they said oh yeah we got six of them 3-inch lift two with a 5in lift that was just one junkyard but sadly I don't have the money to do it right now and that jeep is my daily driver and I don't know if I can do a whole lift in in a couple hours because I need my car almost everyday.

  • @ManuelReyes-vf9tf
    @ManuelReyes-vf9tf 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks for sharing, I'm on the same path. Just picked up a 96 Country for a daily driver. I want to do similar junkyard build. Good information particularly when you addressed the death wobble. I know you mentioned being limited by your front shock but have you got it on an RTI ramp (not important just curious)? Great build liked and subscribed!

    • @GaryBriggs3
      @GaryBriggs3  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't have access to an RTI ramp for a proper score, however with my mid length arms I could get a front tire over 3' off the ground with the opposite stuffed before a tire would lift.

  • @AW-xv7dq
    @AW-xv7dq 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great video thanks for the information. Had a question though... hope that's ok
    If you were to choose from the many different options of there what would you pick for the XJ for a 3-4 inch lift and which tires. And why...
    Of course budget is a consideration.
    Thanks

    Subbed! I am amazed how long tbird springs are! They must mount pretty high on the car? I was told you could get like bronco or f150 springs. Do the springs run rough? Question for you, you talked about the top bucket for coil spring can you elaborate how you built that?

  • @UndergroundTrev
    @UndergroundTrev 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    That's really cool. You definitely made excellent use of the junk yard!
    If you couldn't fab up lower control arms, would the stock short arms still have worked? Or, could you scavenge control arms from another junk vehicle?

    • @GaryBriggs3
      @GaryBriggs3  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +UndergroundTrev Stock Trailing Arms work OK, if you go past 3" of lift you need Lower Arm Relocation Brackets which you can purchase or fabricate yourself. Those brackets correct the geometry of the trailing arms allowing you to run a taller lift with Short Arms. The longer the arms, the better the suspension will articulate.
      There are no Junk Yard alternatives for Short Arms that I'm aware off, The Ford and Dodge 3/4 and 1ton Trailing Arms are way to big.

    lift kits for thousands of dollars? my rough country 3 in was $450, coils, shocks, add a leafs and beefy lower control arms

    • @GaryBriggs3
      @GaryBriggs3  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Rough Country doesn't have the best reputation. Also you still have a short arm lift when it's installed. A quality long arm kit is very expensive. My high quality bilstein shocks cost as much as your entire kit. which tells me your shocks are garbage.
      Not many serious off road enthusiasts run short arm kits, the geometry simply isn't very good.
      but to each their own, if you're happy I'm happy.

      Grant Peterson I can assure you from personal experience a $300 lift kit is shit and will not preform well offroad. You'll be better served building your own "kit" than wasting money on theirs. A quality 4" kit, with new springs and longer trailing arms will run you around $2000.

    So much garbage here. The flex on those springs at rest is a pop out waiting to Happen. Why are you even running a damn sway bar let alone one that rubs the chassis. And as to your "death wobble" that's because you used shit not meant for it. XJ'S never suffer from that no matter how you build them as long as you build them right...$2600 for a 4.5 Rubicon lift, or be cheap and use garbage that will break in a trail not to mention that a mishmash of parts makes a trail fix much harder...hell I've snapped both passenger side control arms which popped up into my oil filter and we used a chain and my winch to align the axle, a filter from an 22re yota and drove home 120miles...

      +Josh Shattle there are quite a few springs that will work, I used 90's ford tbird springs. Google "junk yard cherokee lift" for more information
