Biggest disappointment Ryan Cahills bound of the broken. That fact that people say that you need to read 1000 pages before it gets good is wild. And yet it’s not even good.
I literally dnf'd of Blood and Fire yesterday haha. I so badly wanted to trudge through it because I've heard everyone say the quality improves a ton in the subsequent books, but I just couldn't do it
@ I’m proud of you. It’s not worth it. I’m going to go through it because I bought them all at once so I’ll suffer for you. I have 100 pages left of darkness and light and can confirm it doesn’t get better.
@dewey9499 oh man, yeah that's rough 😂. I probably would've attempted to do the same if I was in your position. I was lucky in that I got 3 months of Kindle Unlimited for free, and all 3 books in the series were available on there, so it was definitely easier to DNF than it would've been if I paid for the books.
I came here with my fingers limbered up and all ready to release the rages of the Interwebz on you for hating The Preciouses but I just enjoyed watching your stuff as always man 😂
Juan, Juan, Juan. I wish I had the energy with which to despise you to the extent you hope to be despised…but I’m afraid I just don’t have it this year. I’ll try harder for next year though! 😉😂
I tried Empire of Silence and Howling Dark but I don't get it. I'm still tempted to try the third book, but long books aren't really my thing. It seems like it's for fans of long fantasy books. I guess if your full time job is reading for youtube you have time to pour through all these long books. I'm curious what your best books are.
Empire of Silence is indeed underwhelming for many, myself included. But the series gets a LOT better in book 2, and by book 3 you get hooked for good. My personal scores for all 6 books are 3/4.5/5/4.5/5/5.
Juan yo pensava que era loco cuando le decia a mis amigos gringos Que tan aburrido estaba leyendo empire of silence. Finalmente un reviewer que puedo confiar
hahaha I started it and it was so bad I thought maybe there were two books with the same name and somehow I was reading the wrong one. It was hunger games bad.
Empire of silence is the worst by far. Obviously you’ve heard the rest but if you decide to read on I think you mind may change!! If you hate it by the end of the second book then screw it, but whatever hahaha
I HATED Empire of Silence. The author ripped off passages from better books like Book of the New Sun (but apparently its inspiration not plagiarism since the author himself cited Gene Wolfe, but still…) it’s the book version of “literally me” the main character is an author self insert, the side characters were dull. There’s much better sci-fi series like Vorkosigan Saga (which of course, is Christopher’s “inspiration) Sorry for the rant 😂 just hated the book that much
I haven't read any of these books (and only have one on my TBR), but I like your vibes. So as a fellow embracer of negativity, here's a like, a subscribe, and a comment for the algo on my first visit to your channel.
I love your humor, very similar to mine except I get in trouble because it's "too far" and people can't tell I'm joking (but I'm not). Agree with Samderson, Red Rising and Empire of Silence. I believe that brings us haters up to 14. We must recruit more to the club.
@@justjuanreader by the way, I completely agree with you on the sun eater and the will of the many. I forced myself to finish both, hoping it would get better, and I have no interest in continuing. The red rising though is so good 🥹
I have only read Skippy Dies and The Valley of Fear. I don’t remember much about the former (read it 13 years ago) and agree Valley of Fear is the weakest of the Holmes novels. I doubt anyone would disagree. As for the others, only God of the Woods is on my pile of possibilities. The rest are noise.
I'm sorry, but I haven't read any of those books, so no threats or anger from me 😄 The most disappointing book I've tried reading this year was Sons of Darkness. The presentation was intriguing; an epic fantasy novel inspired by Mahabharata and Game of Thrones, but the prose and the dialogue had such a odd and ... bantery tone that I just couldn't get into it.
My biggest disappointments this year were Impossible Creatures by Katherine Rundell and Shady Hollow by Juneau Black. Ooo and I forgot to add The Spellshop. I think I just need to avoid anything written in the 21st century 😂.
I got 30% through the first book. The middle is of this book is such a slog, its as if george lucas managed to make dagobah boring. I actually liked the family plot at the beginning of the book, but that second planet and 1st person and him announcing characters dying a few pages before they actually do..... Imagine wanting to write a series of books and having such a bland and boring middle in the first book that you as an author will lose most readers as early as the first book in a 5-6 book series....insane
@@belodrin3550 Book one is the weakest by far. You would definitely need to read book two to truly decide, but I could easily see book one turning you off.
@@Jed1Master97 As a reader, I find that extremely off putting. With most series people dig the first book then the interest drops off the further along they go. I just can't get through any middle of books if they turn out to be slogs.
Glad I'm not the only one who thought Will of the Many was waaaaay overrated.. didn't hate it as much as you...but I get it.. sometimes audiobooks make certain books more tolerable.. that's how it was for me with Empire of Silence..the narrator was just great..
The only books I didn't like this year were: After the Quake by Murakami. They were melodramatic and rushed stories. Less Than Zero by Easton Ellis. It was boring as hell. If you want more hate you could criticize Cormac McCarthy. Unless you like him o_0. But his fans are crazy. Happy holidays.
All of Bret Easton Ellis' books are very similar to less than zero. I love the author's prose, and the irreverent situations he exposes make me laugh. The plots are not usually his strong point.
I am very kind to books. I do not DNF'ed them unless the main character is really unlikeable, and the author implies something against my core values. I read most Liz Moore's God of the Woods and Tress of the Emerald Sea... it wasn't bad. It was a good snack
Hey this gets views and comments for this guy good for him but red rising is top knotch entertainment and quality. First book of the series is the worst and young adult due to characters being young. Book 2 golden son is classic that great .. the rest series is some of the best read of the year as well
So glad you said this about Red Rising. I only ever saw positive reviews and tried reading it. Literally first page all I could think was cringe. It felt like something I wrote in secondary school. I’m sure the author’s a nice guy and I’ve heard the series gets better
A someone who finally caved and read Red Rising hearing mixed reviews I too was initially annoyed at Darrow. He is arrogant and whiny and looking back now, I realize that probably was intentional bc he does grow past that by A LOT. In the third book Darrow himself remembers his past self and attitude and thinks how stupid and naive he was. I feel like current book Darrow would throw hands with Red Rising Darrow. I wouldn't say I hated him for the first half but he was annoying and the only thing that kept me going was I was listening to the audiobook narrated by Tim Gerard Reynolds and I felt like I was immersed in the story. But yes, I'm doing a reread of Red Rising so I can prepare for the 7th book if it comes out this year and the amount of times I mentally shrieked over Darrow bc he is nothing like he was at the start of this, haha!
