    CLIP DESCRIPTION:
    Duncan MacLeod (Adrian Paul) is attacked by the gang of Jacob Kell (Bruce Payne). Duncan seems to be winning until Jin Ke (Donnie Yen) shows up.
    FILM DESCRIPTION:
    In this fantasy adventure tale, Connor MacLeod (Christopher Lambert) and his kinsman Duncan (Adrian Paul) are "Immortals," members of a secret clan who can be killed only through decapitation. Connor and Duncan find themselves thrown into a tournament where Immortals both good and evil battle one another in a bid to become the last of their kind. Highlander: Endgame was the fourth feature film in the Highlander franchise, but its narrative draws from the storyline of the Highlander television series and ignores the events of the second and third films.

      @@patinho5589 The question isn't whether he's going to win (plot of the movie) but whether he looks like he's operating at anything like an equivalent skill level (skill of the actor). Look at Enter the Dragon: Bruce Lee vs. Chuck Norris. Chuck Norris was a good karate martial artist, but Bruce Lee was beyond mastery of Wing Chun, all the way to inventing his own martial art. They don't look like they're in the same fight. In fact, Lee had to train up Norris' speed to even make him look anything like believable (there's old home movie footage of some of the training; he's trying to get Norris to be able to put up a block before Lee's strike is long since over). Adrian Paul looks like he could reasonably be in the same fight with Donnie Yen.

      That's what I appreciate about Paul's performance in fight scenes: he makes them look believable, and he wasn't above making himself look bad to make the other character look good. Take the flashback scene where Connor teaches Duncan the "unbeatable" move: the stumbling twirl that Paul does when Connor releases the sword lock helps sell the move: Duncan looks like a guy who just lost his balance. Meanwhile, when Connor forces Duncan to use the same move on him, Lambert doesn't even try to act off-balance: he goes straight for a killing stroke, as if the unbeatable move did absolutely nothing.

    Notice how the fight with Donnie Yeh has much fewer cuts - Its because he can actually do what his character does, and doesn't require cuts that mask a stunt double

    • @patinho5589
      @patinho5589 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      The cuts also were to make us feel action because the actors can’t do the fighting scene well.. but with sonnies choreography you want to see why they are doing and not have fake feel of movement from cuts.

    • @1AstralKing

Methos and the Horseman come from an even older time period, the early Bronze Age. So they probably have (at least) 1000 years on Jin Ke. I actually think I heard he did help with alot of the fights.The original choice for the main villain was Van Dam which would have been fun but weird to me.Yen dose a great job in the film with the fights.I wanted a little more development with him an his gang though but for the most part I got were they were coming from.I like this sequel as its not really a sequel but a film for the tv series.I hated Highlander 2 but thought its directors cut was passable.Highlander 3 repeats to much of the first but was an all right 9os action film.The theatrical cut of this one is bad but the producers cut which is the only one on dvd is great for me as a series fan.There are maybe one or two scenes from the workprint cut that I wish would have been kept like more development scenes for the gang an the scene were Kell discovers Connor is dead which leads into him killing his team to make him self stronger.Highlander the Source was terrible an easily the worst I couldnt believe that after I enjoyed EndGame an how much it felt like a right step that they come back with this.Theres also the anime movie Search for Vengeance which was great.

      @ronbouley4616 no those were still one on one fights. Caspian and silas both went to kill MacLeod but caspian was the one who attacked him first. Silas was standing by to kill MacLeod if Caspian died. Methos and silas fought a seperate duel while macleod and kronos fought theirs. It created a double quickening which is really rare, but it was still two seperate one on one fights. Xavier st cloud had mortal hitmen shoot up the immortals he targeted, but technically that didnt break the rule. The hitmen would strike first, and he would finish the immortal off. They were mortals and they timed their attacks so theirs didn't overlap when st cloud beheaded his targets.

      A lot of things didn't make sense imo.
      How does jacob acquire so many kills off the radar, and not confront either connor or duncan? How does jin ke also not confront either macleod?
      Its like immortals run free every minute.
      I do like the idea jin ke kills connor, duncan kills jin ke, then kills jacob. That at least looks like a more balance of power.

      @@lk5388 I also would’ve preferred Jin Ke took out Connor. I also agree once Duncan took out Jin Ke, his fight with Kell would’ve been more even...and honestly more interesting....and believable. Truthfully, there’s no way Duncan should’ve been able to take out Kell with just Connor’s quickening (powerful as it was) after Kell took Jin Ke’s and every one else’s. At least with both Jin Ke’s and Connor’s quickenings, it’d have been more plausible.

    With all the ancient immortals that Duncan took, Kell shouldn't have been that much trouble for him - Grayson - about 2,000, the same age as Darius the monk, two of the 4 deadly horseman - Kronos and the other, to name just a few. That is several thousand years worth of quickening there and the immortals that they took as well. Kell is only as old as Connor, at least as how I remember it. Love the fight scene. Too bad there was no way for Duncan to call an umpire to call foul on the 4 against one fight.

    • @tbeller80
      @tbeller80 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Later in the movie, Joe shows Duncan a record of all known immortal kills. If I remember correctly, Duncan had less than 200, Connor had maybe a hundred more, but Kell had over 600. Duncan spent his centuries enjoying life and not being concerned about the Game. Kell spent them gearing up for this revenge plot.

    • @ronbouley4616
      @ronbouley4616 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's not really that 1 vs. 1 is the only way to fight, it's just it usually breaks down when 1 immortal dies to another. The immortal who gets the kill is weakened and distracted from the quickening, so usually is vulnerable to someone else there taking his head in turn. They usually fight 1 vs. 1, because whoever wins does not have to worry about a 2nd fight right away.
      For example, say Duncan beat Jin Ke, he would have hesitated to take his head, because there were other immortals there who likely would have killed him in turn, while he was weakened from the quickening.

    • @TheGary108
      @TheGary108 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      As I recall, Kell doesn’t think too much about the rules. I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the kills he made was after getting mortals or other immortals to gang up in his targets.
