I just love how Joe Hisaishi’s score in this movie reminds us that even with all the tragedy and despair that is going on in the world, we can still find hope for a better future at the end of all things.
The thematical work in this movie is one of the best i have ever seen in any movie. Its so rich. Legacy, processing of trauma and grief, acceptance and letting go, motherhood and metamorphosis.
Act VI always gives me the chills, gives a hopeful future for humanity vibe, which is somewhat ironic considering it corresponds to a "Great Collapse".
I feel the exact same way! The collapse is fitting though because it will be the collapse of all the old world, traditions, and rules. All the illusions and ideologies we still inhabit, just like the parakeets. It’s all collapsing, and we are about to be in a real brand new world hopefully one more in line with nature.
I was sucked in by the first two notes Hisaishi plays in the movie, but that’s the moment I lost it in the theatre. I was sobbing by the end. 😅 THAT is what excellent story-telling and artistic expression can do to a soul!!!
Act VI is such a perfect score for the Great Collapse scene. it invokes that not everything meant to be destroyed is tragic or sad. just like fire's role in the ecosystem, the destruction it brings is also necessary for fostering new life from the ashes
6:17 Reincarnation. I think this song is the best expression of Hisaishi's signature minimalist music. It has a simple composition of piano and strings, but it has a very strong impact. I can't put it into words. It's also similar to the sixth station from Spirited Away.
This is miyazakis best movie You can tell he was trying to make Something that would sum up his childhood and to an extend entire life experience. If you dont know while not a Biografie the movie does tell miyazakis early life his father was indeed making planes for the imperial japanese army and he had to move to the country were all he had growing up was old folks telling him storys and nature creating the foundation for his creative mind

The movie begins soo good... But ends in a very small complex way with out much detail..... It needed a trilogy... It spend more time on the intro than action
