I remember, back in college for a group project in my Entrepreneurial Finance course, my group voted to "start a company" that fished plastics from the world's oceans, melted down recycled plastics and made them into new plastic items. As I did my research, I found out how difficult and costly just the recycling process would be, not to mention that only a small percentage of plastics could actually be used in a process like this - they just stared at me blankly. I was forced to put our "company" in realistic terms for our project at every corner, since my classmates refused to acknowledge it was just a bad idea. There are many resusable options now anyway. I'm all for not killing the planet and reusing this as much a possible. I don't like that many, many products come in non-recycable packaging. Solar panels can be recycled but unfortunately, as the issue of solar panel recycling is only just arising, there is only one recycling centre in France. 4000 tonnes of solar panels were recycled last year there. They are plans to open more but they haven't been built yet. It has the potential to be a huge problem if ignored.

He makes an excellent point. Getting rid of plastics would mean a straight degradation of all modes of quality of life, because we don't have anything anywhere close to as good to replace it. If she is against recycling then every single plastic is single use LOL
She throws em into the ocean.
(ignoring even the cost of buying a boat big enough to actually dredge the oceans for our "raw materials")
People have an emotional reaction to their idea and just assume that it will work perfectly, not caring if it actually makes sense to implement or not.
Moreover the quality of recycled plastic is reduced compared to the source material.

That take is only slightly smarter compared to hers. The west send huge parts of their plastic waste to china for recycling. They have the manufacturing capacity to use it and no brand names that can be tarnished by using slightly worse material (a product of using shorter chain and impure recycling material). She should have come with stats on how much plastic that gets returned for recycling actually is recycled and used for other products versus how much is placed in landfills here and abroad. Plastic can't be recycled. It's been proven. Recycling centers have spoken up and stated many times that plastic cannot be recycled. There is a very small percentage of plastic that can be recycled and that's the multi-use plastic like Tupperware. Water bottles can NOT be recycled. It's best to throw it away. Sending water bottles to landfills is better than sending them to recycling centers because they have to refuse them.
